Trivia

Cara Van Wersch

Edit
  • Cara Van Wersch was a stage actress, film actress and teacher of Russian, yoga and tai chi.
  • In 1961 she was an interpreter for Flemish television (BRT) during Yuri Gagarin's first manned space flight.
  • Van Wersch, daughter of the owner of a painting company in Heerlen (Netherlands) was rejected by a Dutch theater company because she had a soft "g". She then left for Antwerp, where she would make a career.
  • Even before the Second World War she was associated with the Royal Dutch Theater of Antwerp.
  • Cara van Wersch started an exchange of letters with the Belgian writer Johan Daisne in 1952. The friendship is close and growing steadily. She sends him flowers for his birthday; he responds with the poem 'Birthday bouquet'. It remains a paper friendship for a long time, but eventually it comes to a meeting. In mid-February 1956, she sent him a letter with a story she had written about their meeting. Based on this, Daisne wrote "De Lievevrouw" and "De Lichtmis" in two evenings, which were published in 1965 in his collection Charaban.
