Exclusive, updated with new, nonexclusive details: Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are set to reprise their respective roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet in the new Spaceballs movie from Amazon MGM Studios, with Keke Palmer (One of Them Days) joining the cast, sources tell Deadline.
Amazon declined to comment, and character details for Palmer are under wraps, as is the sequel’s plot. Also newly aboard in an undisclosed role is Pullman’s son, rising star Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*), as THR was first to report this afternoon.
The addition of Moranis, though is particularly striking, as the actor hasn’t been seen much on screen for decades. As announced this morning, the original film’s director and star, Mel Brooks, will also feature in the cast once again, reprising his role as Yogurt. Mel Brooks is truly an American national treasure. At 98 years old, he is still making movies that take the piss out of movie-making. As promised by the wise and powerful (or just plain) Yogurt in 1987's Star Wars trilogy parody, Spaceballs, "Lord willing, we will all return in Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money." Apparently, that is going to happen on its 40th anniversary, as Amazon Studios is releasing the decades-delayed sequel, theatrically, in 2027. John Candy, Dick Van Patten, Joan Rivers, John Hurt, and others, who have passed on a while ago, will not be returning, but the sequel has apparently coaxed Canadian National Treasure Rick Moranis out of...

They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, but in Talia Balsam’s case, it might be more accurate to say the ‘Oscar-winning apple’ rolled a little further than expected.
Born into the Hollywood elite, the daughter of Martin Balsam, Talia Balsam could have easily followed the well-trodden path of fading into the backdrop of A-list spouses. Instead, she has strutted her stuff, leaving a lasting mark on Hollywood, one meticulously chosen role at a time.

Hulu's original series "Tell Me Lies" became a huge and somewhat unexpected hit after its first season released in 2022, and that's probably because its story of a deeply toxic college relationship is just so universal. Based on Carola Lovering's book of the same name and adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer (who previously worked on "Fear the Walking Dead" and "Queen America"), "Tell Me Lies" splits its timeline in two, telling the twisted "love" story of Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), who meet at Baird College in upstate New York and carry on an on-again, off-again relationship that ends up creating plenty of collateral damage. In 2008, Stephen and Lucy are carefree students at Baird, but in 2015, they're trapped together at a wedding ... and it's clear that things aren't quite finished between them.

Eight Is Enough was a rarity when it first premiered in 1977. The show was based on the book of the same name by columnist Tom Bradford, and chronicles his life and adventures raising eight children. Long-form series aren't usually based on novels because a given novel can't be stretched into a full show. But, Eight Is Enough broke the mold and offered humor and heart to audiences thanks to its talented ensemble cast. Although the show isn't a classic, Eight Is Enough is known as a forgotten 1980s sitcom.
Since the series centered on Tom, his wife, and their eight children, the cast was large. Some Eight Is Enough cast members went on to become major stars on the stage and screen. However, others, especially those who started as children, faced many issues during and after the show's run. Sadly, several of the cast passed away after, or in one case,...

Live with Kelly and Mark is making a massive change with a series of shows filmed in Palm Springs, California, this week, and the location isn’t the only change made.
Mark Consuelos dressed in a style that better fits old Hollywood rather than the up-and-coming New Yorker he and his wife, Kelly Ripa, both are.
Live has set up a great week of guests, including Kyle Richards, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jerry O’Connell, and Don Johnson.
The shows will occur outside in the beautiful Palm Springs area. They will feature sporting segments like golfing and Pickleball, with some audience watching from their golf carts.
Kelly and Mark finally got their wish to move Live with Kelly and Mark to Palm Springs after months of hard work, and the couple is doing it up this week with their old-style glam.

Spaceballs 2, the sequel to Mel Brooks' 1987 satirical space opera, was announced earlier this year and, from the sounds of it, things are getting closer and closer to the starting point thanks to writer Josh Gad, who recently provided fans with one heck of a galaxy-sized update. Gad famous for voicing the character of Olaf in Disneys Frozen franchise is penning the script along with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez (Detective Pikachu), and will also star in and produce the long-awaited follow-up, which also has Brooks on board as a producer, and Josh Greenbaum (Strays) sitting in the director's chair.

Josh Gad has enjoyed every second of working with comedy legend Mel Brooks. The pair are busy developing Spaceballs 2, the long-awaited sequel to Brooks' 1987 space opera parody of the original Star Wars trilogy.
During an interview on the Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast (via People) to promote his new children's book PictureFace Lizzy, Gad touched on how collaborating with Brooks on Spaceballs 2 has so far been an "incredible" honor. "Mel is 98 years young and I can't go into detail just how involved he is, but let's say very, and it's been such a thrill to get to see him literally still on form in every single way," said the actor. "He is so effortlessly funny and so unbelievably brilliant."

In an age when multiple classic movies that don’t need sequels are getting sequels, the latest film to get this treatment is the 1987 Star Wars parody Spaceballs. The original film was directed, produced, and co-written by comedy legend Mel Brooks (who also acted in it). Brooks will once again act as producer, with actor/comedian Josh Gad set to star and co-produce, and co-write the film for Amazon/MGM.
While the film is in early development and the plot is being kept under wraps, we can only imagine what we might see. The first Spaceballs film primarily parodied the original Star Wars trilogy with a few references to Alien, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes. But with multiple new sci-fi franchises like Avatar becoming popular, you never know what they might do next. Not to mention all the new Star Wars movies since then.

For a horror fan, the month of October is naturally designated for everything related to Halloween. So this month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies that take place on or around October 31st. As usual, though, these selections can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s Halloween-themed offerings include zombies, witchcraft, killers, and more.
The Midnight Hour (1985)

Directed by Jack Bender.
The Midnight Hour is a great warm-up for the Halloween season, right before diving into heavier or scarier movies. This telefilm originally aired on ABC, then later showed up on cable. While it didn’t open to rave reviews, it has certainly found an audience over the years. The plot is simple enough: teens fool around with magic and accidentally raise an evil sorceress on Halloween. As the night goes on, the town is taken over by ghouls and monsters.

A coroner’s investigation into the death of Adam Rich determined the Eight Is Enough child star died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl.
Rich, the former ’70s and ’80s child star best known for his page-boy haircut and role on the ABC dramedy, died five months ago, on Jan. 7, at age 54, and his body was discovered at his Los Angeles residence.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner said in its report that the death was from effects of the powerful opioid. The cause and manner of the child star’s death was ruled an accident.
Rich’s TV credits included The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The City and 3-2-1. But he was best known for his role over five seasons on the ABC dramedy Eight Is Enough, which starred Dick Van Patten, and played Nicholas Bradford beginning at 8 years old. The show kicked off a nearly three-decade screen career for Rich.

Former Eight Is Enough child star Adam Rich’s cause of death has been ruled as an accidental fentanyl overdose after he was found dead in January at the age of 54.
The autopsy report showed that in addition to this, Rich had lorazepam and non-toxic levels of alcohol in his system when he died. The autopsy also noted that Rich’s body was in a “mild decomposition” stage.
When the star was found on January 8 in his L.A. house, police reported that they discovered a white powder and had already suspected that overdose was the cause of death.

Freak Friday went from a young adult novel in the early 1970s to a fairly reliable live-action staple for Walt Disney Pictures. There have been four adaptations so far, though two of them -- a terrible 1995 made-for-tv movie and a better 2018 musical version -- rarely engender much discussion. Besides the 1976 original, the stand-out is the 2003 remake, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and a then-ascendant Lindsay Lohan. Both films have curried their share of fans over the years, and both have good reasons to tune in now -- no small feat for any movie decades after all the profits have been counted and spent.
The two films adopt the same basic formula, as mother and daughter magically switch bodies for a day. Both use it to deliver the same message about walking a mile in someone else's shoes before judging them. But one of them does it with a little more panache and substance than the other.

Publicity executive Jeffrey Ballard, who represented Charlie Sheen for many years through his company Jeff Ballard PR, died Jan. 30 in Santa Monica after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 64.
His death was confirmed by his friend Brad Bessey.
Charlie Sheen said in a statement, “As my publicist of 37 years, it’s no secret that he had his work cut out for him. He met every challenge head on with class and patience. As my dear friend of 40 years, he was equally loyal and generous to a fault. Safe travels Jb, you are sorely missed, now and forever.”
Ballard got his start in Hollywood while still a teenager, crashing the set of “Eight is Enough” as a high school journalism student and signing his first two clients — the show’s stars Adam Rich and Dick Van Patten.
He was dubbed the “boy publicist to the stars,” and opened Jeff Ballard P.

The "Star Wars" galaxy encompasses a vast array of planets and diverse creatures that continue to be explored in even greater detail in the saga films, every live-action, animated Disney+ series, and extensive reference volumes, comics, and tie-in novels. The cultural ripple effect spread worldwide, inspiring countless parodies and bizarre knock-offs that looked to capitalize off the colossal record success of the original trilogy.
In the late '80s, "Star Wars" was at a crossroads in terms of new content and continued efforts to endlessly merchandise the sci-fi fantasy epic into oblivion. It was a ripe time for a proper parody, and luckily one of the great satirists of the 20th century had enough clout and enough jokes to get it done. When Mel Brooks came out with "Spaceballs" in 1987, it had been four years since "Return of the Jedi" ended the original trilogy and three years since the made-for-tv...

In a 1987 behind-the-scenes video, "Spaceballs" writer and director Mel Brooks referred to his comedy as an "appreciation of the human event." In that same interview, however, he admits that his humor can also skew toward the disgusting. After all, this was the man who filmed what might be the longest scene of human flatulence in film history. When it came time to satirize "Star Wars," Brooks was equally impish, making a fourth-wall-breaking classic farce full of slapstick ridiculousness and no small amount of blue humor.
"Spaceballs" starred Bill Pullman as a Han Solo-like rogue named Lone Star who is tasked by the benevolent King Roland (Dick Van Patten) with retrieving the runaway Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga). The film takes Lone Star, Vespa, the dog-man Barf (John Candy), and the android Dot on an adventure fleeing the evil Spaceball empire led by the wicked Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). Clint Eastwood proves again that he Owns the western genre with this odd tale of land reform insurrection and establishment blowback, in New Mexico of 1906. To direct the script by the great Elmore Leonard, Eastwood brought in the western movie legend John Sturges. But Sturges discovered that collaboration now meant acceding to whatever the star wanted. The beautifully filmed movie falls apart even though Sturges saved the day with an 11th hour stunt action climax.

Fans of the series have waited over 30 years to see the cast together on screen. You can see them together in the trailer below.
Kim Fields stars in You Light Up My Christmas and is also an executive producer on the project. It was her initial idea to reach out to The Facts of Life cast for a mini reunion and they were all interested in helping out and getting together again, though George Clooney did not take part in the festivities. All it took was few phone calls.

Jeraldine Saunders, the creator of the iconic ABC series “The Love Boat,” has died, Edward Lozzi, a spokesperson for the actress confirmed to TheWrap Tuesday. She was 96.
According to Edward Lozzie, a spokesperson for Saunders, the author died Monday night at her home in Glendale, California, due to complications from kidney stone surgery in December.
“She was a terrific, grateful, class act who refused to grow old. She was indomitable. She broke the gender barrier in a major industry, the Cruise Lines,” Lozzi said.

There’s an in between zone that parents often look for if they’re easing their kids into horror. If they’re fans of the genre themselves, the urge to take the tykes from Scooby-Doo to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is very tempting. I was one of the fortunate ones who was allowed to cut out the middleman and dive right into the heady stuff. So it was then that I missed out on a great bridge between the two extremes, The Midnight Hour (1985), ABC’s successful bid to get the Thriller-crazy crowd on their side.
Originally airing November 1st as part of The ABC Friday Night Movie (really? There was no Thursday slot open to make it for Halloween?), The Midnight Hour fought off CBS’ Dallas for its first half and NBC’s Miami Vice for the back, but those shows weren’t the ideal demographic anyway – this...

Al Yankovic can be described in a lot of ways besides "Weird." Most people know that he's a chart-topping singer-songwriter, a director-producer, a top-notch parodist, an author and a die-hard polka enthusiast. Even those who have followed his career closely, however, may have forgotten he was, for a brief moment, the host of a short-lived children's television show.
The Weird Al Show debuted on CBS on September 13, 1997 as part of their Saturday morning lineup. Each episode began with the all important "today's lesson" before viewers were invited into Yankovic's underground...

With word this week that Tom Cruise is set to begin production on Top Gun 2 very soon, news on another long-awaited sequel has arisen that could see a classic comedy get the follow-up it has already “suggested”.
In a recent Q&A with comedy legend Mel Brooks, which followed a special screening of his classic Young Frankenstein, the writer/director/producer spoke at length about the film and about his career on the whole and chat soon turned to another film in his repertoire – 1987’s Spaceballs.
The film, which co-starred Brooks, was a spoof of Star Wars and grossed just over $38million from a $22million budget and this isn’t the first time a sequel has been talked about. Indeed, in the film itself, the Yoda-spoof character Yoghurt speaks to Bill Pullman’s Lone Starr (aka Han Solo) and says the two may “meet again in...
