In early 1982, was inadvertently awarded the WWF World Heavyweight Championship belt by a dazed referee, after winning a match vs. Bob Backlund by countout (under WWF rules, titles could not change hands on a countout). Valentine demanded a rematch, got it (it took place in a steel cage) ... and lost.
