Gone But Not Forgotten: Mutant X
Image
You’re trying to find something they would like, something recognizable, and you come across something like Robert Cop.

It has become a hobby of mine to see the creativity some of these companies will go to make a buck. But imagine if we took this and applied it to a billion-dollar-making I.P., This is not something new; one of the most famous was the original Battle Star Galactica, which has been accused of being a cheap copy of Star Wars. Another more current example is the BBC America show called “Demons,” which is a blatant rip-off of Buffy. Yet one of the most memorable knockoffs is one that involved two giant companies getting into a fight like two-year-olds in the playground over a toy. I am talking about The X-Men….I mean…Mutant X. A show that, even though it was obvious in its deception, was still a...

The Weirdest 90s Kids Shows, Ranked
Image
The 1990s were a weird time for TV viewers, and it's notable how some shows in this decade were just weird. They had strange set-ups, and the execution was even weirder. Attempts to mix CGI, which was in a very rough stage in the mid-1990s, could make things look even worse.

Some 90s kids' shows had good concepts but fell apart in execution, while others were so strange it's amazing they were even green-lit. Even some shows that ended up being good hits still had pretty weird premises and presentations. It showcases how this decade was filled with unique ideas, from anthology children's horror to strange virtual reality-themed experiments, that viewers have to wonder how some of these concepts were created in the first place.

Updated on June 26, 2024, by Mayra Garcia: Child's television has changed plenty over the years, but millennials can't forget how odd cartoons were in the 1990s.

X-Men: Evolution Nearly Gave One Fan-favorite Character a Look Many Today Would Consider Racist: “But we didn’t go that way”
Image
It has been often seen in several movies and series that people of color (usually people of African heritage) spot a braided hairstyle. Alongside the braided hairstyle, an almost bald look or a one-side cut is also often seen with these characters.

People might call it stereotypical and even borderline racism, but this was the norm during the early 2000s. Well, with the animated series X-Men: Evolution, one character was almost about to suffer the same fate until the executive producers decided to step in and change it to something unique.

A still from X-Men: Evolution (2000-2003)

X-Men: Evolution Saved Itself From Being Stereotypical

Back in the early 2000s, X-Men: Evolution was a newly animated series based on, well… the X-Men. However, the series had to go above and beyond the walls set by its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, and hence, had to include new characters.

Ryan Reynolds To Co-Produce Nacelle’s ‘Biker Mice From Mars’ Animated Series
Image
Exclusive: Ryan Reynolds and his company, Maximum Effort, have joined Nacelle’s Biker Mice from Mars animated series, a new iteration of the cult classic series. Nacelle plans to co-produce with Maximum Effort and Fubo.

“Some people know that I am a motorcycle enthusiast, so it was only natural for us to jump on board Biker Mice from Mars,” said Reynolds. “Maximum Effort and Fubo look forward to putting a new spin on this cult classic with our friends at Nacelle.”

The Biker Mice From Mars story: on the planet Mars, there existed a race of anthropomorphic mice who enjoyed motorsports and had a very similar culture and society to that of human beings. Eventually, they were all but wiped out by the Plutarkians, an alien race of obese, foul-smelling, worm-eating, fish-like humanoids who plunder other planets for their natural resources.

Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan in Brown Sugar (2002)
'Night Thrasher' becomes UPN's primetime hero
Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan in Brown Sugar (2002)
Marvel Comics' black superhero Night Thrasher is ready for primetime on UPN. The network has picked up a one-hour drama from Ben Silverman's Universal-based production company, Reveille, and Marvel Studios that will be a live-action rendition of the 1990s comic book series. Brown Sugar scribe Michael Elliot has come aboard as the writer on the project, which has received a premium script commitment from UPN. Elliot will executive produce with Silverman and Marvel's Avi Arad and Rick Ungar. The Night Thrasher deal is a sign that Marvel, which has been busy in features with such blockbusters as Spider-Man, X-Men and the upcoming Daredevil and The Hulk, is now ramping up its activity in the small-screen arena. In the comic, the Night Thrasher by day is Dwayne Taylor, a New Yorker whose parents were killed mysteriously when he was 5. As an adult, he uses his excellent athletic skills and mental prowess to fight evil when the sun goes down. In the UPN show, set in the present day, Taylor will be the 25-year-old multimillionaire owner of a hot hip-hop clothing line, enjoying the high life with a penthouse apartment overlooking New York's Central Park. But he also lends his superhero services to the CIA, having been recruited by his CIA agent uncle, who raised him.
