Paris Has Fallen Dropped A Major Hint About Where Season 2 Could Take Place
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Paris Has Fallen below! It's easy to miss on first viewing, but Paris Has Fallen drops a big hint about where the next season could take place - and it's not France. Paris Has Fallen's ending sees protagonists Vincent (Tewfik Jallab) and Zara (Ritu Arya) taking down villain Pearce (Sean Harris) and saving the day. Still, the finale is a dark one, and despite Pearce getting the corrupt French President (Emmanuelle Bercot) to confess her part in the death of his family, some political spin frees her of the consequences. The finale also sees Pearce's financiers, Dcx Capital, setting up their next job.

Pearce needed money to finance his revenge campaign, with his backers Dcx then making money from the chaos he creates. They also gave Pearce a mercenary named Freja (Ana Ularu) for his mission - both as a henchwoman and insurance against Pearce going rogue.

Another Trailer for 'Paris Has Fallen' Action Series Featuring Ritu Arya

"Move fast, kill the bad guys." Which is usually the best strategy. Did we really need more of these stories as a TV series? A protection officer and an MI6 operative team up after a terrorist attack strikes Paris. They suspect a mole as they race to thwart a larger conspiracy from a madman threatening Paris. The plot follows protection officer Vincent Taleb who finds himself working with street-smart MI6 agnet Zara Taylor to save the day. Warning! Spoilers for season 1 of The Power and The Power novel.

The Power is a complex tale of oppression and revolution, and the ending of season 1 explains how these elements interact. The Power has an ensemble cast of characters, including Margot (Toni Collette), the mayor of Seattle; Jos (Auli’i Cravalho), Margot’s daughter; Roxy (Ria Zmitrowicz), the daughter of a British gangster with a very powerful Eod, Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh), a Nigerian journalist who covers many of the social changes due to Eod; Allie (Halle Bush), a girl who has exceptional finesse in using her Eod; and Tatiana Moskalev (Zrinka Cvitesic), the wife of the repressive Moldovan president.

The Power Review: Event TV That’s a Force to be Reckoned With
Image
This The Power review contains no spoilers.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely etc. etc., but not (yet) in Prime Video‘s excellent adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s 2016 best selling work of speculative fiction. The novel, developed with help from a mentorship with Margaret Atwood, imagines what would happen if teenage girls suddenly developed the ability to produce electrical charges through their fingers.

The series takes this premise, updates it slightly for a 2023 audience and creates a show that feels complex, nuanced, emotional, and, yes, electric. This is not a simplistic girls against boys diatribe. It’s not a diatribe at all, but a fascinating thought experiment translated into colorful, dynamic TV, with a banging sound track and an impressive ensemble cast.

With an all-female writers room, the show was developed by Alderman, Raelle Tucker and Sarah Quintrell, with Tucker as the showrunner. They’ve created a powerhouse.

Reed Morano No Longer Involved In ‘The Power’ In Latest Departure From Amazon Series
Image
Exclusive: The Power, Prime Video’s global thriller drama based on Naomi Alderman’s feminist sci-fi book, continues to undergo personnel changes. Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale director Reed Morano, who had been with the project since its early stages, has exited as both a director and an executive producer.

Morano directed the first two episodes with Leslie Mann and Tim Robbins. After she wrapped the episodes in March 2022, Morano opted not to continue on with the series due to creative differences as the series headed to reshoots with Mann and Robbins both exiting. Toni Collette and Josh Charles eventually were cast in the roles, and Raelle Tucker came on board as showrunner. Upon her exit, Morano also requested to be removed from the credits, which I hear Amazon has agreed to, so she will no longer be listed as a director or executive producer.

The series has been in production,...

Siberia Review
Keanu Reeves, in the snow, narrowly avoiding death from his corrupt diamond flogging friends? – I’ll take it!

A breezy, blizzard drenched Siberia consumes the screen making for chilly viewing of this romance come crime flick (emphasis on the romance part), albeit a pretty sprinkle of snow can’t save this one from inevitable eye-rolling doom; sorry Neo, you aren’t ‘The One’ here.

After gracing our screens and fully embodying John Wick’s calculated reckless, the never ageing Keanu takes on Lucas Hill; a diamond trader who seems to be in much deeper than he thinks with his supposed Russian business partners. When associate and ‘friend’, Pyotr (Boris Gulyarin) lets him down with an important client looming, it’s down to Luca’s charm and sheer luck to pull this deal off alone and get the hell out of dodge.

It seems there’s not a lot to do...

Siberia review – Keanu Reeves ices up as diamond geezer
Reeves finds selling gems to the mob is trickier than he’d like in this violent romantic thriller, also starring Molly Ringwald

Keanu Reeves is back in action, after a fashion, in this drab downer romantic thriller – a less fighty, more arty version of John Wick from the indie director Matthew Ross (Frank & Lola). Fatally, the script requires Reeves, playing a black-market diamond trader, to do some serious acting over and above his usual stiff, stoical delivery of deadpan lines and punches.

Reeves plays Lucas Hill, an American visiting St Petersburg to flog $40m of rare blue diamonds to a Russian mobster. When his business associate vanishes with the ice, Lucas hotfoots it to Siberia on his tail, finding time to Facetime his wife (Molly Ringwald). I did wonder if pairing Reeves, 54, and Ringwald, 50, was an enlightened example of age-appropriate love interest casting. But no. In Siberia Reeves hooks up with bar owner Katya,...

Siberia tells the story of an American diamond merchant (Reeves), who travels to Russia to sell rare blue diamonds of questionable origin. As their relationship builds, so does the treacherous world of the diamond trade from which he is unable to extricate himself.

Matthew Ross’ thriller Siberia follows the straight-laced diamond trader Lucas Hill, played by Keanu Reeves, who, while on his latest deal runs into a vast host of questionable predicaments and a dark morally corrupted path of righteousness, albeit condensed into a...

Keanu Reeves Is Happy Playing John Wick, But He’s Just as Eager to Produce His Passion Projects

Keanu Reeves may not appear in another “John Wick” movie until next year, but with “Siberia,” the moody action star gets to flex a different sort of muscle — his producing skills. Taking on double-duty as producer and star for the third time since 2010’s “Henry’s Crime,” Reeves has thrown his weight behind a project that fuses his instincts for suspense and comedy.

“It was a script that I helped develop so it was dear to me in a different way, and that’s part of the reason why I was producer on it,” Reeves told IndieWire. “Creatively, it was challenging because of the tones it mixes — it’s a thriller, it’s a romance, there’s some comedy, not quite comedy but humor in it, so I was really interested in the tonal complexity and ambition.”

Director Matthew Ross’ follow-up to 2016 Sundance hit “Frank and Lola” stars Reeves as Lucas Hill,...

Keanu Reeves in Siberia (2018)
Film Review: ‘Siberia’
Keanu Reeves in Siberia (2018)
Matthew Ross’ “Siberia” is the rare film involving diamond smuggling, international intrigue, double-crosses and Russian gangsters that might have actually been better off jettisoning all of those elements. Starring Keanu Reeves as Lucas Hill, an American diamond dealer who winds up in a remote corner of Siberia trying to salvage a botched deal, the film tries to use its b-movie framework as a jumping-off point into the sort of bleak romanticism that has powered auteurist thrillers from “The Conformist” to “The American.” But in the end, it can never decide what kind of film it wants to be, drifting into drab formlessness when it needs to find moments of poetry, and reverting to dull clichés when it wants to indulge its thriller instincts, winding up as frosty and uninviting as its setting.

Reeves has always been an excellent if idiosyncratic actor, but his highly specific range can turn into a weakness when he’s misused,...

Siberia – Review
Review by Stephen Tronicek

For all the perceived masculinity surrounding the myth that is Keanu Reeves, there’s something immensely tender about his screen presence. He’s got a stone face, but hiding behind it is the melodramatic soul of a Shakespeare protagonist. He attacks drama like he’s ripping his heart out and screaming into the heavens how much that he loves. This feeling is present in all of his work, action or not. You might see the same man in My Own Private Idaho as you do in John Wick, but at least that man has a soul. At least, you can empathize with him.

Siberia, a new drama starring Reeves is acidic through and through. It’s about a cold man in a cold world, in a situation that is built to drain him of love. As a plot, it starts off simple enough with Reeve’s...

‘Siberia’ Review: Keanu Reeves Cheats on Molly Ringwald in a Lifeless Russian Thriller
Ana Ularu
“I want you to do something for me,” says a steely femme fatale (Ana Ularu) to the married American diamond merchant (Keanu Reeves) she’s been screwing for a couple of days after their chance encounter in the Russian hinterlands: “Fuck me, right now, like you fuck your wife.” The man agrees. They make love in the missionary position. The woman asks him to grunt his wife’s name when he orgasms, and he agrees to that, too. It’s a strange scene, and one that’s shot with all the erotic power of a David Caruso movie from the ’90s, but it’s one of the only times that Matthew Ross’ (“Frank & Lola”) torpid and dysfunctional new thriller actually focuses on the part of the story it should be telling.

The appropriately frigid “Siberia” hinges on a man named Lucas Hill (Reeves). And the thing about Lucas Hill...

Interview: Director Matthew Ross Talks Siberia and Keanu Reeves
In the Matthew Ross-directed thriller Siberia, Keanu Reeves is Lucas Hill, a married American man who travels to Saint Petersburg, Russia for his latest mission in the diamond trade. Like John Wick, Hill is a very reserved, quiet professional who certainly knows how to operate a weapon, but make no mistake: Siberia is not an action film at all and soon puts its protagonist in a town in Siberia, where he gets temporarily stuck due to the bad weather. There, Lucas meets a local woman, Katya (Ana Ularu), and a whole different type of movie starts, focussing on the relationship between the two, though eventually the dangers of the black market of diamonds will catch up with their intense extramarital affair. Since Siberia opens in...

Review: Keanu Reeves Brings His Charm to ‘Siberia,’ But the Plot Will Leave One Cold
One of a myriad quasi-thrillers set overseas, featuring a bankable star, and centered on the convergence of commerce and crime, Siberia is an oddity. These drop onto DVD and on-demand on a weekly basis; most of them star Bruce Willis. The lead this time, however, is Keanu Reeves. And this alone guarantees that, at the very least, it is a film worth watching. However, as a wholly satisfying viewing experience, Siberia is a disappointment. But this is most certainly not typical direct-to-dvd fare, and not just because it will arrive in at least one theater. It is more ambitious, more interesting, more, well, Keanu-ey than that.

One major selling point in addition to the presence of Reeves: Siberia was written by Scott B. Smith, the Oscar-nominated writer of A Simple Plan. This is a high-caliber name, and it helps to explain how Reeves and Frank & Lola helmer Matthew Ross became...

Keanu Reeves Finds Himself Fighting Russians in First Trailer For Siberia
Saban Films has released the first trailer for Keanu Reeves' new thriller, Siberia. He is working neck deep in the dangerous underworld of the diamond trade, and he finds himself fighting against the Russians to survive. It doesn't look like the top-notch quality films we're used to seeing Reeves in, but it looks decent, and I'll watch anything with Keanu Reeves in it.

An American diamond merchant named Lucas (Keanu Reeves) travels to Russia to sell rare blue diamonds of questionable origin. As the deal begins to collapse, he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner in a small Siberian town. As their passion builds, so does the treacherous world of the diamond trade from which he is unable to extricate himself. Now that the world has come to its senses and begun treating Keanu Reeves as the treasure he is, we can start anticipating new movies from him with cautious optimism once again. His latest is “Siberia,” which brings him to the cold heart of Russia so that he can attempt to salvage a diamond deal gone wrong. Watch the trailer below.

Lychnikoff, who plays the baddie threatening to ruin things for our heroes.

Molly Ringwald, Aleks Paunovic, and Veronica Ferres co-star in the film, which was directed by “Frank & Lola” helmer Matthew Ross. “Siberia” is in theaters next Wednesday,...

Siberia, starring Keanu Reeves, was just picked up by Saban Films at the Cannes Film Festival to release in North America. Additionally, we now have our first look at Reeves, aping John Wick's style just a tad bit. It's hard to look at the actor and not think of John Wick at this point, especially when he's rocking the same haircut and facial hair. If that wasn't enough Keanu Reeves news for you, it was also announced this week that Bill and Ted 3 is officially happening with Reeves and co-star Alex Winter on board.

Siberia also stars Molly Ringwald as the wife of Keanu's character. Ringwald is said to have a small part in the romantic thriller that has Reeves in over his head, as an "American diamond trader who sells blue diamonds of dubious origin to buyers in Russia." Molly Ringwald had nothing but good things to say...

Cannes Report, Day 4: Sales Market Heats Up, ‘355’ Sparks Bidding War, Jean-Luc Godard Is Back
Jean-Luc Godard
Most thought this would be a slow Cannes Film Festival, but we’re already on day four and movies have been bought, there’s a bidding war going on, and well, Jean-Luc Godard is back to mess with our heads.

Saban Films picked up the rights to two movies in the last two days, while Bleecker Street and Netflix (the latter of which backed out of submitting any films for the competition) have also emerged as players in the market.

Jessica Chastain’s female spy thriller “355” sparked a heated bidding war, with Universal emerging as the victor in an eight-figure deal.

Also Read: Cannes Report, Day 3: Women Rule, 'Cold War' Hailed as 'Best Film' Yet

Meanwhile, everyone else is still trying to get that one selfie on the red carpet despite a no-selfie policy — or get another glimpse at jury president Cate Blanchett.

See what everyone talked about during the fourth day at Cannes:

Acquisitions, Acquisitions

May 11 saw the acquisitions of quite a heap of films. Neon acquired the troll love story “Border” following its world premiere at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, while Bleecker Street picked up the rights to Mads Mikkelsen’s survival drama “Arctic.” The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday night.

Saban Films bought the rights to Keanu Reeves’ “Siberia,” a thriller by director Matthew Ross in the market that also stars Ana Ularu and Molly Ringwald.

Also Read: Netflix Buys Animated Film 'Next Gen' for $30 Million

In what might be the biggest deal so far at Cannes, Netflix picked up the worldwide rights, excluding China, to the animated film “Next Gen” for $30 million.

Netflix pulled out of submitting films to this year’s festival after organizers implemented a new rule that bans any films that don’t have theatrical distribution in France. The streaming company had the option to screen films out of competition — but passed.

Speaking of Saban Films…

Saban Films sure is spending money this year. At the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Saban bought the North American rights to Craig William Macneill’s “Lizzie,” in partnership with Roadside Attractions.

The distributor has been busy at Cannes as well, having bought Gerard Butler’s “Keepers” on Thursday and Reeves’ “Siberia” on Friday. Saban came to conquer Cannes, that’s for sure.

Jessica Chastain’s ‘355’ Bidding War

Everyone wanted a piece of “355,” Jessica Chastain’s female all-star spy thriller that will also star Lupita Nyong’o, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Fan Bingbing. Simon Kinberg (“X-Men; Dark Phoenix”) will direct.

Early Saturday, Universal announced it had acquired U.S. distribution rights to “355” in what the studio said was “a competitive situation” — i.e., a bidding war — believed to be worth eight figures.

Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘The Image Book’ Debuts

Jean-Luc Godard’s newest film “The Image Book” debuted on Friday at Cannes, and early reviews are as jumbled and convoluted as the film itself seems to be.

“The Image Book: who f—in’ knows,” wrote one critic, while another said, “What do you want me to say?”

TheWrap’s Steve Pond wrote in his review: “‘The Image Book’ requires stamina, or more accurately surrender. (A section of the Grand Theatre Lumiere balcony devoted to press had at least a dozen walkouts during the film.)”

See some tweets about the film below.

The Image Book: who fuckin knows. But here are some nonverbal reviews from those seated near me!
