    • Anneliese Uhlig was born on August 27, 1918 in Essen, Germany. She was an actress, known for Der Monddiamant (1974), La dynastie des Carey-Lewis (1998) and Meurtre au music-hall (1939). She was married to Douglas Byron Tucker and Kurt Waitzmann. She died on June 17, 2017 in Santa Cruz, California, USA.

  • The film business was no subject for her after the war for the time being. She worked for the US special service and was foreign correspondent from 1946 to 1967. Beside it she wrote political articles for different newspapers.
  • German leading lady of the 30's and 40's, discovered by Thea von Harbou and on stage from 1938.
  • In 1940, she rejected the advances of Nazi Propaganda Minster Josef Goebbels. Out of spite, Goebbels consequently prevented her from acting in German films. However, her close friend, the opera star Maria Cebotari, secured for her work in the Italian film industry. After making five pictures in Italy she was ordered back to Germany in 1943 to be utilised for army welfare. She was subsequently employed as translator/caretaker for the expatriate family of deposed dictator Benito Mussolini who had been moved to a Bavarian castle.
  • After the war she married an American, lived in the United States and in South East Asia, and worked as a journalist and lecturer.
  • The actress Anneliese Uhlig was born into an artistic family. Her mother was the opera singer Margarethe Maschmann, her father the stage actor Kurt Uhlig.
