In 1998 life imitated art as he ran for the Republican nomination for US Senate form VT to protest a millionare who moved to Vermont just to run for Senator. While the other candidate pledged to limit spending to $1,000,000 US, Fred pledged to limit his spending to $16. Tuttle pulled an upset victory in the Sept. 1998 primary, and is expected to lose in Novemeber to Senator Patrick Leahy, who himself was in "Batman and Robin".
