Review: Netflix's Damsel Is a Showcase for Millie Bobby Brown
Image
The following contains spoilers for Damsel, now streaming on Netflix.

There are Stranger Things to see on Netflix than Millie Bobby Brown playing a damsel in distress. From minor roles in Hollywood blockbusters to the successful Enola Holmes film franchise, this British export has come a long way. With supernatural talent and a riveting screen presence, she was destined to outgrow her role as Madison Russell in the Godzilla movies. So why exactly did Brown decide to slip on some princess-sized pumps and play the lead in Damsel? Because the film allows her to shine again.

With an ensemble cast including Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Robin Wright (House of Cards), Damsel has some solid supporting players. ‘Safe’: The Ending to Season 1 Is Absolutely Ludicrous, and More Mysteries Should Follow Suit — Spoilers
[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Safe” Season 1 on Netflix, including the ending.]

There isn’t likely to be a “Safe” Season 2, and anyone who’s finished the first season knows why.

Still, in an age of inexplicable renewals and extended limited series, it never hurts to have confirmation, and creator Harlan Coben provided as much as he could — on screen and off. That’s pretty emphatic as far as creator speculation goes, and Coben speaks even more clearly via the final episode: As a soapy, twist-driven mystery, “Safe” is all wrapped up. Rather than throw in a last-second reveal that upended the answers that had been building over the last few episodes, Coben chose to structure his project as eight episodes and out.

3.3 Prey

When Ingrid Hjort (Eleanor Williams) goes missing after an evening out, the police can find no trace of the Danish au pair. Her employer, widowed scientist Dr Hector Lorenz (Milo Twomey) claims to know nothing about her disappearance, while her fellow students at the night school she attended are similarly clueless. Thursday’s convinced that the presumed murder is linked to the vicious attack in 1963 that left another young woman in a coma, but in the absence of Ingrid’s body, nothing can be proved.

The investigation soon takes a turn for the macabre when a man’s severed arm is retrieved from the river. The victim, Ricky Parker (David Burnett) was having fun on the riverbank at night with friends when he disappeared without a trace.
