    Trent's "big break" came when he was cast as The M-G-M Crime Reporter in the studio's long running Crime Does Not Pay series of film shorts. Although he introduced himself verbally at the beginning of each short, he did not receive on screen billing, and the role did little to establish his name with movie audiences.
