Dancing With the Stars Season 19 Finale Recap (Part 1): Who Deserves to Win?
With no more also-rans and for-your-amusement-only celebs left to bog down the proceedings, crunch time finally came to Dancing With the Stars – and just in the nick of time, too!

Yep, it’s time to break down Part 1 of the Season 19 finale — complete with one final, heartbreaking elimination.

Truth be told, you could’ve made a case for any of the fearless final four — Alfonso Ribeiro, Sadie Robertson, Janel Parrish, and Bethany Mota – cleaning off a mantelpiece in preparation for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy, and dreaming of the oh-so-familiar, confetti-littered celebration.

But first things first: Monday night’s live show...

Tiff 2013. Wavelengths Experimental Films – The Shorts and the Mediums
Nb: Films by Robert Beavers, Peter Hutton, and Luther Price were unavailable for preview. However, I said some very nice things about these men and their work in general over at The Dissolve.

In years past, I have attempted to present this extended article as a preview; my aim has been to send it off into the world either the day before of the day of Tiff's kick-off. That has proven impossible this year, and, dear reader, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee... 7 pm The Next Food Network Star (Food Network) | Repeat to Revisit: In case you missed last week’s Season 9 premiere, here’s your chance to meet the 12 contestants vying for a show on The Food Network. (My money’s on The Pie Man, if only for his funny nickname.)

Victoria Mahoney: Pushing It, Beautifully (Interview Part 2)
The task of moviemaking is the ultimate cross-section of art and commerce. It’s also a balance between solitary convictions and esprit de corps—a balance that must be cultivated and preserved with care. If anyone seems to understand this well it’s Victoria Mahoney and her close collaborators.

In part two of this interview Victoria talks about who and what inspires her, about the aesthetic of Yelling to the Sky, about unconventional narrative structure, her upcoming feature Chalk, and working with folks who get it.

Forming a Perspective

Sj: I notice you have Reed Morano as your Dp [for Ytts]. I saw “Frozen River”, and it has this sort of gritty look—very blue, and just interesting to look at; is “Frozen River” why you picked her for that film?

Vm: I picked her because a lot of the other DPs shared with me that it would be too difficult to...
