    The Mayor of London asked him to serve as the "Ambassador of Ireland" to the 2003 St. Patrick's Day Festival. With a budget of over $800,000, it was to be the biggest St. Patrick's Day Festival ever held in London. Toibin was also the guest of honour at the Mayor's dinner, held on 16 March 2003.
