Peanuts' beloved beagle is gearing up for new adventures in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Camp Snoopy. Fans can look forward to fresh antics from Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and their friends as everyone heads off to summer camp.

Released via the Apple TV+ YouTube page, the Camp Snoopy trailer sees the Peanuts gang arriving at Camp Spring Lake, where they immerse themselves in the great outdoors. "Camp is supposed to be about the fun and excitement of being with friends," Linus and Schroeder tell the group. "And a true friend makes the good days better. Given there are so, so many film adaptations of Jules Verne’s infinitely malleable 19th-century adventure story, you might wonder why the French-Belgium production team behind this latest iteration felt the need to add yet another one to the pile. Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it? There’s never been an animated version where the lead characters are played by a frog and a monkey, and live on an island community mostly made up of land-dwelling shrimp!

It may be “the most wonderful time of the year,” as the song goes, but let’s face it, not all things Christmas are created equal. There are the tree ornaments you cherish, and others that can fill space in the back. There are movies that become classics, like “Miracle on 34th Street” or “Elf,” and those which seem to have been created as holiday time-fillers — harmless if charmless mediocrities parents can use to distract the kids for a couple of hours while they get some Christmas shopping done in peace.

Such is the generic ilk of “Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer,” a Canadian toon whose animation isn’t the only thing that seems to have been handled by computer. A would-be new “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” it’s energetic and polished enough to avoid feeling like a rip-off — “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny,” this is not — but there the compliments pretty much end.

Surly (Canadian comic actor Will Arnett) the squirrel has been banished from the rodent community in the inner-city park where he lives. We had the chance to sit 1-1 with Will Arnett and Katherine Heigl to talk about thier upcoming animated film, The Nut Job.

The Nut Job is an action-packed animated comedy seet in fictional Oakton, circa 1959. A mischievous purple squirrel named Surly (Will Arnett) is banished from the park to the city by the villainous, self-declared Raccoon (Liam Neeson) after a botched hot dog stand heist in the park by Grayson (Brendan Fraser) and Andie (Katherine Heigl) goes horribly wrong. With the help of his rat friend Buddy (Robert Tinkler), Surly plans a nut-store heist of outrageous proportions, and the duo unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a complicated adventure that might help the survival of the park’s animal community even if it involves getting them to help out with the heist before the winter weather hits.

Alison: It's become beside the point to proclaim the excellence of "Freaks and Geeks." The success currently being enjoyed by creator Paul Feig, producer Judd Apatow and many of the cast members speaks for itself (and makes it all the easier to offer a derisive "I told you so " sniff in the direction of what, a decade out, still stings as a total heartbreaker of a cancellation).

As we sat down to write the introduction to our list of notable film spin-offs, someone forwarded along a link to the big movie news story of the day: Tom Cruise announcing his plan to reprise his role as ultra-profane movie producer Les Grossman from the 2008 film "Tropic Thunder" in an as-yet-untitled comedy. Tom Cruise, in other words, is getting into the spin-off game.

So even though we're a week late in finishing this list inspired by "Get Him to the Greek" (more on that film in a bit), it's still plenty timely, and will continue to be as long as Hollywood exploits successful properties even after their original stars have moved on.
