It has been quite some time since the announcement of Vaadivaasal, the highly anticipated collaboration between director Vetrimaaran and Nadippin Nayagan Suriya. However, the project faced delays and remained stalled for a while. It appears to be back on track, with initial reports of the restart coming from producer Kalaippuli S. Thanu.

Director Vetrimaaran later confirmed the update during a recent appearance at an event. The film’s pre-production is progressing steadily, and shooting is expected to commence in May or June. Vaadivaasal marks Suriya and Vetrimaaran’s first collaboration. The filmmaker is known for making socially relevant films that explore themes like politics, class differences, government overreach, abuse of authority, and police brutality.

The year started slowly for Kannada cinema on Ott platforms. Many films had digital streaming partners. However, none of them arrived on Ott in January 2025. The last big Kannada movie to release on Ott was Bhairathi Ranagal. This Shivarajkumar film came to Amazon Prime Video during Christmas last year.

Some delays happened due to Pushpa 2: The Rule. This major film released on Netflix on January 30 in five languages. Max and Ui were affected by this. HD prints of both Kannada films are already available online. This is a cause for concern.

Kichcha Sudeep is returning to the big screens after two long years, and the anticipation is sky-high. Max has arrived in theatres today and the early reviews have been positive. Shows positive signs in pre-sales

As of 12 Am, Max has registered advance booking sales of 3 crores gross (excluding blocked seats) for day 1. Karnataka is dominating the pre-sales with a contribution of 2.98 crores gross, which is about 99% of the total sum. The remaining figures are from Tamil Nadu.

Around 11.5K tickets have been sold from 920+ shows in total. All in all, the advance booking for the opening day has been good. All eyes are now on the spot bookings throughout the day. Kichcha Sudeep is making a comeback in theatres after 2 long years.

One of Tamil cinema’s popular directors Pa Ranjith has said that ‘Jai Bhim’ is the phrase that got him to where he is now.

Participating in the audio launch event of his upcoming film, ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’, Ranjith said, “‘Jai Bhim’ is the phrase that got me here. The journey which started in ‘Attakathi’ (his first film) has now come up till ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’.”

Ranjith also downplayed the compliment that he had helped many people in the film industry grow by giving them opportunities.

He said, “I haven’t made anybody grow. They are skillful people and I have made use of them, that is all. I am happy that I worked with them.”
