Tyler Perry’s most famous character, the gun-toting grandma Madea, marks her 20th anniversary this year and, to celebrate, she’s heading to the Bahamas in “Madea’s Destination Wedding.”

The Netflix movie, which begins streaming on July 11, is Perry’s 13th Madea movie and his 30th overall. And to be clear, Madea’s not the one getting married — which, perhaps, is why she begrudgingly agrees to attend her grand-niece’s shotgun nuptials. The plot kicks off when Brian and his ex-wife Debrah (Taja V. Simpson) learn that their daughter Tiffany (Diamond White) is engaged to Zavier (Xavier Smalls), a rapper she met on a yacht — and the wedding is in two weeks.

Kristen Zolner has parted ways with Imagine Entertainment, where she has served as head of television since 2022.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Zolner’s exit came amid broader streamlining measures at Imagine. The parting is said to be amicable, and Zolner’s role will not be filled.

Zolner succeeded Samie Kim Falvey at the helm of Imagine’s television unit, with Falvey having exited the company in late 2021. In her time with Imagine, Zolner oversaw projects including the Peacock series reboots of “The ‘Burbs” starring Keke Palmer and “Friday Night Lights,” a scripted series about magicians Siegfried & Roy at Apple TV+, and the Netflix Mexico series “The Gringo Hunters.”

Zolner joined Imagine after nearly a decade at Netflix, where she was director of original series. During her Netflix days, she worked on shows like “Emily in Paris,” “Dead to Me,” “Big Mouth,” “Master of None,” and “Survival of the Thickest.

Tyler Perry has set his 2025 TV and film slate at Netflix and it includes two new projects: the film Madea’s Destination Wedding and the TV series, She the People. This is Perry’s second Madea project with the streaming following A Madea Homecoming released in 2022.

Madea’s Destination Wedding follows Brian and his ex-wife Debrah who are shocked to learn their daughter Tiffany is engaged to a rapper she met on a yacht—and the wedding is in two weeks. Madea and her crew head to the Bahamas, stirring up chaos and heartwarming fun.

The cast includes writer, director and producer Tyler Perry, Cassi Davis Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Taja V. Simpson, Diamond White, Jermaine Harris and Xavier Smalls. Angi Bones and Yolanda T. Cochran also produce.

Exclusive: Jax Media, an Imagine Entertainment company, is shutting down its development operations. I hear the announcement was made during a staff meeting yesterday. Moving forward, all development will be consolidated and run through Imagine Television. Jax’s development team will wind down by year’s end when its executives, led by Jax Head of TV Dave Binegar, who joined a year ago, and UK Creative Director Katie Gahamire, who came on board in April, will depart.

The move signals Jax reverting to its original core business as a production services company. That will continue under new head of production Yolanda T. Cochran who was just hired for the role, replacing Jake Fuller who stepped down to focus on independent production, mostly sports-related.

Also staying on are Hussain Casey-Ahmed, who joined in April and runs production in the UK, as well as John Nemeth and Morgan Howard, who oversee production in New York.

“No one sets out to make a bad movie,” Gina Prince-Blythewood said directly on a Zoom with IndieWire.

She’s speaking for everyone in Hollywood, but especially for herself, Issa Rae, and Kumail Nanjiani; the three executive producers and mentors on Season 4 of “Project Greenlight,” which Max recently rebooted with fresh new talent. This time, “Greenlight” will focus on a first-time filmmaker Meko Winbush, on a time crunch to make her debut feature, “Gray Matter.”

“I know ultimately I could, but doing the film in 18 days with three weeks prep and a script that still needed work — it’s insane,” Prince-Blythewood said. “The fact that Meko came through it and she’s still mentally stable is testament to her.”

Throughout the series, Winbush deals with familiar filmmaker struggles: creative clashes, moving schedules, and an uncertain script — all with the documentary crew of “Project Greenlight” hot on her heels and her crew’s.

HBO Max announced that “Search Party” will end with its fifth season, which will premiere with all 10 episodes on Jan. 7, 2022.

The thriller comedy, which premiered on TBS in 2016 before moving to HBO Max for Season 3, follows a group of 20-somethings who end up on a dark path while searching for a missing college acquaintance. Season 5 will see Dory (Alia Shawkat) enter a business partnership with tech billionaire Tunnel Quinn (Jeff Goldblum) after a near death experience, bringing her friends Portia (Meredith Hagner), Elliott (John Early) and Drew (John Reynolds) along in the venture.

The Producers Guild of America has issued an extensive safety guide for independent producers as they return to work amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The PGA, which has more than 8,000 members, unveiled the 57-page document Monday with detailed recommendations on testing, maintaining physical distancing and wearing personal protective equipment. It includes “red light protocols” on how to manage production when a team member exhibits Covid-19 symptoms or tests positive for Covid-19, including potentially shutting down and restarting a production.

“Before beginning pre-production, the production company must have an infectious disease safety plan and have conducted a risk assessment to address ways the Covid-19 hazard will be mitigated on the production,” the report said. “It is recommended that production processes be altered to adapt for Covid-19, rather than adapting Covid-19 processes to existing production practices.
