Fans of the Friday the 13th movie series have a good reason to go binge-watch the original series of eight films from Paramount Pictures.
As reported by ComicBook, the first eight Friday the 13th films have been made available to watch for free on the free streaming platform Pluto TV. This includes all of the original movies to have Friday the 13th as part of the title, all of which were made under the Paramount umbrella. They are also the complete set of films from the franchise to be released in the 1980s, with the eighth film dropping in 1989. For some fans of the franchise, it marked the end of an era before the ninth installment, Jason Goes to Hell, took the movie series in a wildly different direction.

Superstitions and beliefs whether true or not run down for generations and turn into scariest phenomena. One such is about Friday the 13th which started centuries and decades ago and has now created a frenzy among people. The day is often combined with bad luck and misfortunes: rotten number 13 with Friday,
This superstition became more popular after a movie about the same was created. It was in 1980, just before summer, that a film by Victor Miller and Sean Cunningham was released that would change the history of horror forever.
Considered a classic in horror and slasher genres, Friday the 13th’s popularity has led to the making of many more films in this series, and has turned Camp Crystal Lake into the most dangerous site in the United States.
But years after the release of the film, have you wondered whether or not the film is based on a true story?...

The Friday the 13th (1980) franchise has had a tumultuous time for more that decade, with legal battles preventing any new movies or shows being made. While that seems to be coming to an end, the director of the original 1980 movie, Sean S. Cunningham has been remembering one of the Jason kills he never got to shoot when his own attempts at a TV show collapsed.
Currently, A24 and Peacock are teaming up to bring Friday the 13th to the small screen with Crystal Lake, although even that has been proving problematic in its own way. However, long before that show was given the green light, Cunningham worked on his own TV series, but that project was cut short, as the director recently explained at Silver Scream Con (via Bloody Disgusting).
Some time ago, the rights expired on the original script, so then there became doubt about who owns what after 35 years.

With today being Friday the 13th, fans are rewatching their favorite entries in the iconic horror movie franchise to celebrate the day. While some relive the past, others lament the many lost projects that didn't make it to screens. One recent scrapped project is Bryan Fuller's Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. Unfortunately for those already disappointed that the series was abandoned, one horror movie director has made things worse by calling the scripts for the series some of the best he had ever read.
Director Vincenzo Natali, best known for his work on films like The Cell and Splice, took to X/Twitter to share a little tease about Fuller's Crystal Lake series.. If one were to make a Mount Rushmore of classic horror films, there's a more than decent chance that 1980s' "Friday the 13th" would make the cut. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, the legendary slasher spawned a franchise that is still popular to this day. We haven't had a movie in the series since 2009's "Friday the 13th" remake, but that's another story entirely. But while as important as the movie may be, it turns out that many of the now-legendary kills were done in very low-tech ways. Case in point, the axe to the face that led to the demise of Marcie Stanler was accomplished with a gag item that could be purchased at a magic shop.
In a 2015 oral history on the film published by Uproxx, the filmmakers were discussing the scene in which Jeannine Taylor's Marcie meets her demise when Pamela Voorhees...

The planned Friday the 13th prequel series from A24, Crystal Lake, has faced numerous problems getting off the ground. In early May, showrunners Bryan Fuller and Jim Danger Gray were fired, leaving the show in a state of flux. However, a new report has provided some more insights into what happened, and revealed that a top-tier talent was in the running for a prized role on the show.
According to a report from TheWrap, Charlize Theron was being sought after for the role of Pam Voorhees, Jason's murderous mother. While the Friday the 13th series is often associated with the hockey-mask wearing killer Jason, Mrs. Voorhees was the original psychotic slasher in Sean S. Cunningham's classic film. The role of Mrs. Voorhees in 1980's Friday the 13th, was played by Betsy Palmer. In 2009, the franchise received a reboot directed by Marcus Nispel, where Nana Visitor played the role of Jason's mother.

Sean S. Cunningham believes delays in any new Friday the 13th film due to studios being hesitant over potential returns. Legal disputes over franchise rights further complicate matters, stalling development despite initial hope. Cunningham, while optimistic about TV series and video game, predicts a new movie will not be in sight for at least 3 years.
Jason Voorhees has survived many things across several entries of the Friday the 13th franchise, but perhaps his biggest adversary has been a return to the big screen. 2009 was the last time the character stalked Camp Crystal Lake and since then the franchise was tied up in a legal dispute that put the series on hold until everything could be worked out. As film-making technology advances, movies are capable of more now than ever before. Modern horror films are crawling with over-the-top gore and unbelievable deaths that are often brought to life through CGI. The horror genre, however, has always been a shining example of what movie magic is truly capable of. Even before all the technological advancements of today, horror looked realistic, gritty, and hard to swallow. That's thanks to special FX makeup, prosthetics, and other practical effects that go into bringing terrifying moments to life.
Today, there's a large divide between the use of CGI and practical effects. It's hard to argue that some films wouldn't be the same without the use of CGI. It's hard to imagine any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies without CGI, for example. That said, practical effects are still a surefire way to make sure something looks as realistic as possible. Many professionals still...

In Sean S. Cunningham's 1980 slasher flick "Friday the 13th," Kevin Bacon plays a camp counselor named Jack who meets a memorable end. Jack and his girlfriend Marcie (Jeannine Taylor) enjoy a zesty round of marijuana and coitus while, unbeknownst to them, the corpse of their friend Ned (Mark Nelson) is stored in the ceiling above them. Marcie leaves to take a shower, and Jack lays back on the bed to relax and have a toke. A drop of blood lands on his brow. Jack is momentarily confused. His confusion doesn't last long, however, as the hand of a mysterious killer -- possibly the presumed-dead Jason Voorhees -- pops up from under the bed and grabs him by the forehead. An arrow pushes up from underneath the bed, puncturing Jack's neck from behind. The arrowhead emerges from his throat, and blood spurts up onto his face. Jack dies wearing a startled expression.

Friday 13 was the second slasher in the history of movies which for many might not seem to be much, but for fans of horror films, this was a revelation and for producers a product with great rentability.

“It’s got a death curse!” One of the most well known slashers in American horror doesn’t need to be refreshed in most horror fans minds because they know it very well. What the crew thought would just be a simple slasher film turned out to be a movement that spurned an entire franchise around it even spawning a remake in the 21st century. Here is what they said.
Paramount sets Friday The 13th for March 13, 2015. Not a sequel to the reboot, mind you, another reboot entirely.

Back in March, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. announced they are co-producing and co-distributing director Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, a move that raised a few eyebrows around Hollywood. More details have emerged from this deal, revealing that Warner Bros. gave up the rights to their Friday The 13th franchise, along with their stake in a future South Park movie, to be a part of this sci-fi thriller.
Interstellar was initially set up at Paramount, but Warner Bros. wanted in on the project so badly, they were willing to give up their Friday The 13th and South Park rights, which they shared in complicated deals with Paramount. This was all to be a part of Christopher Nolan's next potential blockbuster, and retain their relationship with the filmmaker who brought them huge commercial hits such as The Dark Knight and Inception.

Several years ago I wrote a piece on the Friday The 13th franchise for the gay newsmagazine The Advocate (more accurately, for http://www.advocate.com). Quite honestly, I just wanted the free copy of the F13 DVD boxed set that had just been released at the time. (Until a new and improved boxed set comes out!) So I wracked my brain and figured out a way that F13 could maybe, possibly be considered a “gay” franchise. (Yes, it’s a stretch, but I really wanted that boxed set!)
In a move sure to drive the “Why do we need a gay horror blog anyway?” crowd crazy, I thought it might be fun to reprint the article here in honor of Platinum Dune’s remake, to be unleashed on the public today, Friday, February 13. Don’t fret—I’ll be posting an interview with Peter Bracke, out queer author of the definitive,...

Chicago – Every time a movie gets remade, you can expect the original to appear in some varying degree of “special” edition on the home market. A week-and-a-half from the Michael Bay produced and Marcus Nispel remake of “Friday the 13th,” Paramount has unleashed deluxe editions of the original on Blu-Ray and the first two sequels on DVD.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The funny thing about revisiting Sean Cunningham’s original slasher hit is that one is reminded of the fact that it’s really not that great a movie if you judge it outside of its influence. Cunningham was never that interesting behind the camera. The film is a slice of nostalgia that holds an important place in movie history and is a must-own for even the most casual horror fanatic, but it’s really not that well-made.
