Legally Blonde Dethrones Chris Pratt's $1.3 Billion Sci-Fi Film on the Streaming Charts in Major Upset
Image
The iconic 2001 Reese Witherspoon comedy, Legally Blonde, pulls ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on streaming.

Per FlixPatrol, the hit 24-year-old comedy Legally Blonde took the #3 spot on Peacock's top 10 most streamed shows in the United States as of July 5, 2025. This puts the film ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom despite the recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth. The 2018 Jurassic World film quickly became a streaming hit, but in a huge upset, has been beaten out by the comedy. Considered one of the staple films of the 2000s, the legal comedy follows Witherspoon as sorority girl turned Harvard student Elle Woods and her initial mission to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (played by Mathew Davis). Currently, just ahead of Legally Blonde sits Despicable Me 3 at #2 and The Woman in the Yard at #1.

Elle Woods, a sorority girl, Hawaiian Tropic girl, and natural blonde, is left devastated when...

Tony Talk: Will Jean Smart’s heartbreaking performance in ‘Call Me Izzy’ be remembered at the 2026 awards?
Image
Welcome to Tony Talk, a column in which Gold Derby contributors Sam Eckmann and David Buchanan offer Tony Awards analysis. The 2025-26 Broadway season is now officially in swing, so we reconvene to discuss its first production.

Sam Eckmann: Jean Smart is dominating Emmy conversations once again thanks to her dynamic role in Hacks, but theater fans are currently enjoying her grand return to the stage. The veteran actress kicked off the 2025-26 Broadway season with the one-woman play Call Me Izzy, from playwright Jamie Wax. Smart portrays the titular character, a would-be poet living in a trailer park and trapped in an abusive marriage. Each night, Izzy sneaks away to her trailer's cramped bathroom to write lines of verse on toilet paper so that her violent husband won't discover her true passions. This role marks Smart's first Broadway show in 25 years, having last been seen on the rialto in...

With 8 Episodes Already Shot, Matthew McConaughey’s Upcoming Apple TV+ Show Hits a Wall After Shocking Writer Exit
Image
Matthew McConaughey’s new Apple TV+ comedy, also starring Woody Harrelson, Brothers, has hit a major roadbump; production has come to a sudden halt. This occurred after eight episodes of the series had already been shot in Austin, Texas. The show is currently stalled due to the shocking exit of showrunner David West Read, who cited “creative differences.”

McConaughey and Harrelson are also the executive producers for the show, and this highlights the fact that even the most seemingly promising projects can fall apart mid-production. They are now in talks with Lee Eisenberg, veteran showrunner, to take up the task of shooting the two remaining episodes and any possible reshoots. Fans are understandably skeptical about the chemistry, storyline, and the momentum of the series going forward.

What is Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Brothers’ about, and why did the filming come to a screeching halt?

Brothers was looked at as a heartfelt...

Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson's Apple TV Series Suffers Setback
Image
Filming a series or movie production always seems like nothing but fun on the outside looking in. While being a part of the cast and crew is a fun experience in itself, it is still a job, and problems arise just like it would at a regular place of work. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's Apple TV+ series is the latest project to halt filming while things get sorted out. It seems that the untitled show, which stars and is executive produced by the actors and Skydance Television, sent its cast home due to creative differences.

According to Deadline, sources told the publication that production in Austin, Texas, was paused late last week, and the cast, which includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi,...

Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey Apple TV+ Comedy Series Paused as Showrunner Exits
Image
A behind-the-scenes shake-up has halted production of the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. On Friday, Deadline reported that filming was suspended late last week in Austin, Texas, and that the cast — which also includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, and Brittany Ishibashi — was sent home. With eight out of the 10 ordered episodes filmed, former showrunner David West Read has reportedly left the production over creative differences about the season’s ending. Now, Lee Eisenberg is in negotiations to assume showrunner duties for the last two episodes and the season’s “likely” reshoots, according to the outlet. The half-hour comedy series stars McConaughey and Harrelson as themselves as the actors and their families try to cohabitate on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. Apple TV+ announced the project more than two years ago, calling the show “a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around the strange and beautiful...

Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Apple Comedy Series Pauses Production as Showrunner Exits
Image
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s Apple TV+ comedy series has paused production amid creative changes at the helm of the show.

Variety has confirmed that the series, currently titled “Brothers,” had finished filming eight of its 10 episodes in Texas before the shutdown. David West Read — who served as the series’ writer, showrunner, and executive producer — has departed due to creative differences. Lee Eisenberg is currently in talks to take over as showrunner for the final episodes as well as reshoots.

Eisenberg has previously worked with Apple on the anthology series “Little America” as well as the shows “Lessons in Chemistry” starring Brie Larson and “WeCrashed” starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway. His other credits include the hit Amazon series “Jury Duty” as well as “The Office.”

“Brothers” was originally announced in 2023 and is loosely inspired by the two stars’ actual friendship. The official logline states, “Matthew and Woody’s...

Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Apple Comedy Series Halts Filming After Showrunner Exit
Image
Apple TV+ and Skydance Television’s untitled brother comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson has suspended filming.

An individual familiar with the matter confirmed to TheWrap that production in Austin, Texas was paused late last week. The decision involves the departure of showrunner David West Read, who exited over creative differences on how to end the season.

As of the suspension, eight of the series’ 10 ordered episodes have been shot. “Lessons in Chemistry” creator Lee Eisenberg is in talks to join as showrunner to replace Read and a return to production has not yet been set.

Representatives for Apple TV+ did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment, while producer Skydance Television declined to comment.

The half-hour comedy, which reunites Harrelson and McConaughey after their award-winning turn on the first season of HBO’s “True Detective,” centers on a “heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around the...

Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson’s New Series Halts Production, Loses Showrunner Over Creative Differences
Image
Changes are afoot behind the scenes of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's untitled Apple TV+ series. Filming has been halted following the departure of David West Read as showrunner.

According to Deadline, eight of the 10 episodes had been shot before production in Austin, Texas was paused last week and the cast sent home. Lee Eisenberg is in negotiations to come on board as the new showrunner, which would entail overseeing the last two episodes and any reshoots. The showrunner change is reportedly due to differing views over how to end the season.

A return to production date is not expected to be set until the series' creative direction has been tweaked. The untitled series, at one point titled Brother from Another Mother and then simply Brothers, stars Harrelson and McConaughey as heightened versions of themselves in a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful sibling-like bond.

Image
Exclusive: Filming has been suspended on Apple TV+’s untitled brothers comedy series from Skydance Television starring and executive produced by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Deadline has learned. According to sources, production in Austin, TX was paused late last week, with the cast, which includes fellow stars Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi, sent home.

The development, which involves the departure of showrunner David West Read, comes as eight of the series’ 10 ordered episodes have been shot. Veteran comedy showrunner Lee Eisenberg, who most recently created and executive produced Apple TV+’s acclaimed limited series Lessons In Chemistry, is in negotiations to come on board as showrunner for the last two episodes and likely reshoots, I hear.

Glen Powell Thanks Cheech Marin for Invite to Sit at “Cool Table” for Lunch on ‘Spy Kids 3’ Set
Image
Glen Powell picked up CinemaCon’s Star of the Year award Thursday night, and he dedicated a piece of his acceptance speech to sharing a story about one of his early jobs when he was, well, not the movie star he is today.

The gig came courtesy of Robert Rodriguez’s 2003 franchise effort, Spy Kids 3: Game Over, and it marked Powell’s first film role. The part was so small that he’s listed on IMDb as “Long-fingered boy.” But something happened on set that Powell has never forgotten.

“I don’t know if Cheech Marin is in the room,” Powell said as he scanned the crowd seated inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “Hey, my boy Cheech.”

Marin happened to be seated next to his longtime creative partner Tommy Chong as they were on the honoree program as well. The duo picked up a career...

‘Fantasy Life’ Review: Writer/Director/Actor Matthew Shear Takes His Own Anxieties And Turns Into A Triple-Threat Filmmaker – SXSW
Image
It is probably no accident that among Matthew Shear’s acting credits are no less than four movies directed by New York filmmaker extraordinaire Noah Baumbach, or that one of his most recent is another angst-ridden Jewish comedy, Between the Temples. Clearly he has spent his downtime on those sets soaking up the atmosphere and the comedic beats in preparation for his writing-directing debut Fantasy Life, premiering at SXSW today in the Narrative Feature competition.

Assembling a dream cast of actors who know how to deliver this kind of New York Jewish-centric character-driven comedy that Woody Allen trademarked and others like Baumbach have also travelled in so successfully, Shear actually seems to me to be more of a modern-day Richard Benjamin who also turned into a fine filmmaker in his own right. That seems to be the trajectory here except Shear is clearly cribbing from his own life and experience with depression,...

“Obviously you gave no censorship issues”: Chuck Lorre on the Netflix Show He Was Happy To Do After Two And a Half Men Boxed Him With Too Many Restrictions
Image
It’s common for every filmmaker to yearn for freedom when it comes to their creative endeavors, which can often contribute to some of the most authentic works the medium has to offer. Although such creative freedom is unheard of when it comes to traditional TV networks, which often impose a bunch of restrictions for the showrunners, this isn’t the case for streaming services.

As a result, Chuck Lorre, arguably one of the most renowned figures in the realm of sitcoms, was thrilled to work with the Netflix-driven Disjointed.

Unlike traditional TV outlets, Netflix grants filmmakers excessive creative control over their projects. This has been one of the key factors why many talented figures in showbiz often opt to join the streaming service, which is notable for pushing the ideas that would not have seen the light of day otherwise.

Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men went through some unexpected casting shifts throughout its run. Matthew McConaughey Joins Medieval Action Movie From Jason Bourne Director
Image
Matthew McConaughey has booked another role. The actor is set to star in The Rage, an upcoming medieval action movie set during the Peasants' Revolt.

According to Deadline, McConaughey will play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt. Although unconfirmed, Deadline notes that the character description could imply that he's playing the real-life figure Wat Tyler, who led the uprising before being killed by forces loyal to King Richard. Interestingly enough, when The Rage was first announced back in May 2022 under its original title The Hood, it was Benedict Cumberbatch who was attached as the farmer-turned-leader. However, Cumberbatch is seemingly no longer involved with the project, possibly due to his forthcoming commitments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“One of the things that created a gap between us”: Kaley Cuoco’s Most Obvious Trait Made Her Ex Johnny Galecki “Very Uncomfortable” in The Big Bang Theory
Image
To viewers’ shock, in season 3 of The Big Bang Theory, Penny and Leonard parted ways, but fortunately, the duo rekindled their romance in season 5. Unfortunately, this didn’t translate into real life, as Tbbt stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco never reunited after their breakup.

Even though it seemed that the two were perfect for each other, similar to their Tbbt counterparts, one aspect of Cuoco’s personality didn’t sit well with Galecki, which eventually contributed to their split-up.

Despite initially brushing off Kaley Cuoco‘s advances, Galecki took it upon himself to set things right, kickstarting their brief go at romance. But unlike their Tbbt counterparts, who bounced off really well from each other, things didn’t transpire well for the couple in real life,...

Bravo, Chuck Lorre: One of Two and a Half Men’s Highest Rated Episodes is Also the Best Sitcom Holiday Episode in TV History
Image
The holiday season and sitcoms always go hand in hand, as they add to the build-up towards the festive season, on top of their annual rewatchability. Two and a Half Men also doesn’t drop the ball in that regard, which isn’t surprising given sitcom creator Chuck Lorre’s status in the realm of TV.

While Lorre excelled with most holiday-themed episodes in the show, Walnuts, and Demerol, arguably one of the best in the entire show, stands out as the quintessential holiday special.

Although sitcoms lean towards several holiday-themed episodes, the ones centered around Christmas often stand out the most, and similar is the case with Two and a Half Men and most of Chuck Lorre’s works. But among them all, it’s season 4, episode 11, Walnuts and Demerol that takes the cake,...

“I should have added in a clause”: Charlie Sheen Wanted a Big Fat Paycheck From The Big Bang Theory Even Though He Openly Claimed It’s a ‘Stupid’ Show

While Charlie Sheen has reconciled with Chuck Lorre, the actor once became the biggest critic of the sitcom creator, following his departure from Two and a Half Men. And his disdain for Lorre appeared to have extended to his other shows, including The Big Bang Theory.

In an interview following his exit from the CBS sitcom, Sheen went on to make outrageous claims while demanding a cut for The Big Bang Theory’s success, all while criticizing the sitcom and its creator.

Two and a Half Men: One Criminally Underrated Character Was a Much Better Charlie Sheen Replacement Than Ashton Kutcher
Image
In the aftermath of the Charlie Sheen debacle, many, including the cast members, were uncertain about Two and a Half Men‘s future, which was reasonable as Sheen served as its lead for eight seasons. To everyone’s surprise, Lorre opted to continue the show without its most prolific figure and brought in Ashton Kutcher to fill Sheen’s shoes.

While the sitcom continued to run for several more seasons, Kutcher’s Walden Schmidt proved to be a divisive addition to the show, which could’ve been avoided by giving the spotlight to another character.

Ryan Stiles’ Herb Melnick would’ve been a great successor to Charlie Sheen

Given Charlie Sheen‘s eight-season-long legacy, filling his shoes was always going to be an uphill task for Ashton Kutcher, and unfortunately, he didn’t quite manage to hit it out of the park for most viewers.

8 TV Shows That Kept Recasting Their Main Characters
Image
Under normal circumstances, the main characters of TV shows remain relevantly consistent, although there are some series that have consistently shaken things up. From behind-the-scenes controversies to character arcs simply running their course, new characters and recastings are sometimes inevitable, but they can be difficult for viewers who have grown attached to their favorite cast members to get used to. While sometimes the introduction of new main characters feels fresh and exciting, other times it signals the beginning of the end as a series kisses goodbye to its glory days.

Character changes occur in everything from beloved sitcoms to prestige dramas, and many of the best shows of all time have switched out main characters for new cast members. In some instances, even the protagonists of TV series have exited and were quickly replaced by somebody new. Several long-running series even had main character changes built into their very nature as Doctors regenerate,...

It joins a long list of legal dramas, many of them classic stuff like Law & Order centering on major cases. Yet others are fun in how they have a mix of great characters, sometimes offbeat cases and even some humor. If you’re a fan of Suits,...
