- Started the opening game of his rookie season (1961) with the Minnesota Vikings and tossed four touchdown passes in a 37-13 win against the Chicago Bears.
- Former NFL pro-bowl quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings renowned for his "scrambling" ability. Hall of Fame NFL Quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings ('61-'66, '72-'78) and the New York Giants ('67-'71).
