Cousin of Aamir Khan, Faisal Khan, Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat Khan.

Nephew of producer and director Nasir Hussain, who introduced him in his hit film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) and then repeated him in his next hit film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977), for which he earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Supporting Actor. After this however his career declined and he only acted in a handful of other films in the 1980s before making his last film appearance in Mera Damad (1995).

Often confused with Bollywood actor Tariq Shah and Pakistani actor Tariq Shah.

Husband of Nusrat (Dilshad).
