Premiering at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section, “You’re Next” (2011) is a comedy in the most straightforward and functional sense of the word. Adam Wingard’s thriller draws its pulse from Simon Barrett’s razor-sharp script, borrowing the unnerving rhythm of the home invasion films while threading it through concerns about capitalism and the moral rot of class conflict. More than a decade later, the visual storytelling still feels surprisingly assured: the violence lands with a cathartic, darkly comic edge where household appliances double up as both positive and negative weapons. The killers may hide behind animal masks, but the real monsters pulling the strings never need one.

Like a ton of other people today, Jimmy Fallon had some feelings about Taylor Swift’s announcement of her upcoming new album, which you probably already know is called “The Life of a Showgirl.”
And taking a cue from Swift’s very devoted fans, Fallon during his monologue on Tuesday’s “The Tonight Show” tried to figure out everything he could about the record from “clues” Swift may have dropped — to the point he basically turned into a conspiracy freak. Amusingly, of course.
“Well, guys, this morning at 12:12am, on Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, Taylor Swift announced her 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ How? Americans are like, ‘Wait, there’s good news out there. I don’t know what to do with myself,'” Fallon joked.

Power continues to reign supreme on Starz!
With two chapters of the Power Universe set to end with their next seasons, Starz has greenlit Power: Origins, an exciting development for longtime fans of the franchise.
We will finally get to see how Ghost and Tommy became Ghost and Tommy, and the fans all rejoiced.

The Power Universe has been chugging along for over a decade now, but with the news that the two lone spinoffs, Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 and Power Book IV: Force Season 3, were ending, many wondered what the future of the universe looked like.
I’ve been a firm believer that Power and all things within its world could go on for as long as they wanted because there are so many stories to tell.

Starz is betting big again on its flagship crime drama franchise Power, and it's understandable why. Since the first installment aired on the network on June 7, 2014, it has become one of Starz's highest-rated shows and one of television's most-watched series. The network has officially greenlit Power: Origins, an 18-episode order for the series, which will follow the early lives of Power legends James “Ghost” St. Patrick and long-time partner Tommy Egan.
Created by Courtney A. Kemp and executive produced by 50 Cent, Power launched in 2014 and ran for six seasons, ending its original run in 2020. The series followed the double life of James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a smooth-talking nightclub owner trying to go legit while deeply entangled in New York’s brutal drug underworld. While the original show set the initial coordinates, Power Book II: Ghost followed Ghost’s son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), as he struggled with his...

The Power Universe continues to thrive eleven years after the original Power debuted in the summer of 2014.
It’s hard to imagine that Starz foresaw what a phenomenon the series would be, as it quickly became the cable network’s biggest show and spawned several spinoffs that are still airing to this day.
A show about a drug dealer trying to go legit (sort of) became a sensation, and at one point, it was one of the most talked-about shows on social media.
(Courtesy of Starz)
Fans loved to come together to rant and rave about Ghost, Tommy, Kanan, Angela, and Tasha as they made dumb moves in the name of family or something else ridiculous, and we ate it up every single time.
When the show ended after six seasons, fans were rightfully upset, but jumping right into Power Book II: Ghost helped ease some of the pain, as Tariq St.

Mahershala Ali expressed his frustration over the stalled Blade reboot and Marvel’s silence during the premiere of Jurassic World: Dominion in New York on Monday.
The Oscar-winning actor told The Hollywood Reporter he’s still in the dark about the long-delayed project, which was first announced nearly six years ago at San Diego Comic-Con.
“I’m just taking it a day at a time. I’m doing the best work I can,” Ali said. “I would love for Blade to happen. We’ll see; I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am.”
Ali, who was tapped to take over the vampire-slaying role made famous by Wesley Snipes, has been attached to the reboot since 2019.
But the film has faced repeated setbacks, including the departure of two directors—Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange—and the loss of key cast members.

Progress on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Blade reboot is far from sharp as the anticipated film remains in development hell. Amid recent comments from the original Blade trilogy's screenwriter, Blade 4 star Mahershala Ali adds to the project's uncertainty with his latest update.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth, Ali provided a progress report that will further frustrate fans hoping to see his Daywalker grace the MCU. According to the Oscar-winning actor, he's long been ready to do the reboot, but has yet to hear from Marvel about the potential next steps. "I would love for Blade to happen. We'll see. Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot, featuring Mahershala Ali as the vampire hunter, remains in active development despite years of challenges, according to the most recent report. The project, aiming for a possible 2028 release, has faced numerous setbacks since its announcement.
Back in July 2019, Marvel president Kevin Feige introduced Ali as Blade during San Diego Comic-Con, thrilling fans with the prospect of the Day-Walker’s return.
Ali, known for his role as Cottonmouth in Luke Cage, even voiced the character in the 2021 Eternals. However, the excitement has been tempered by repeated delays.
The project has seen a revolving door of talent. Directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange were attached at different points, but both have since left, with Demange reportedly exiting in March 2025 due to difficulties in collaboration.
Writers have also changed frequently, with Eric Pearson (Black Widow) and Michael Green currently working on the script as of mid-2024. Producers include Feige,...

The long-delayed Blade reboot is still alive at Marvel Studios, but it’s been anything but smooth sailing.
According to recent reports, the movie is still in development and could finally hit theaters in 2028, though fans have heard that before.
The new Blade film was first announced back in 2019 when Mahershala Ali joined the project. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made the announcement during San Diego Comic-Con that year. Ali, who previously played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage, was excited to take on the role. He even made a brief voice cameo in Eternals in 2021.

Since then, however, the project has faced delay after delay. Directors and writers have come and gone. Bassam Tariq was once attached, then Yann Demange stepped in, only to reportedly exit the project in March 2025 due to allegedly being difficult to work with.

Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. That’s the old rule that a lot of networks need to start living by, and it’s something Starz is considering well when it comes to the growth of its business. Considering the success of the Power franchise so far, it’s not that surprising to find out that there are two new spinoffs possibly in the works.
Power started off with just one show about one family, and it’s since grown into multiple spinoffs, telling prequel and continuation storylines. This comes off the back of the split from Lionsgate and the need to grow its own IP, but Starz doesn’t want to lose a franchise that has helped it become a household name.

Poweris getting a new spinoff, with key original stars set to reprise their roles. Beginning with the original Power series in 2014, from creator Courtney A. Kemp and executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, the spinoffs have so far included Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force. The crime drama has been a key component of the Starz shows' brand, with more offshoots on the way.
Deadlinenow confirms that another spinoff of Power is in the works at Starz. The project, currently known as Power: Legacy, hails from Power Book IV: Force's Gary Lennon and Kendra Chapman. They'll serve as executive producers on the planned series, with Lennon serving as showrunner. Michael Rainey Jr. and Joseph Sikora are expected to reprise their respective roles as Tariq St. Patrick and Tommy Egan in the project, which takes place in the present timeline.

Power debuted on Starz in June 2014.
That was eleven years ago, and since then, the little series that could has spawned three spinoffs, with a fourth currently in production.
In many ways, the Power Universe has become what the Starz network is known for, but as one year into the next ten-year run of the universe (hopefully!), we can’t help but question where things can realistically go from here.
(Courtesy of Starz)
The premise of Power was simple and not groundbreaking, but when the original show was on, it was On.
The cast was full of amazing actors, the writing was crisp, the action tight, and perhaps above all else, the storytelling was engaging and ambitious.

One former Blade writer says he knows how to fix the MCU’s troubled vampire movie that has undergone so much turmoil it's been removed from the release schedule entirely. With no director currently attached and only Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth remaining in the cast, things are looking bleak for Blade at the moment. It’s been more than 20 years since Wesley Snipes wrapped up his Blade trilogy, which was penned by David S. Goyer, who also directed Blade: Trinity. Goyer recently caught up with ScreenRant at the premiere for his new Apple TV+ series, Murderbot, and when asked what Marvel Studios needs to do to crack the code of a successful Blade movie, he simply said, "Give me a call." Goyer was also asked if he would pen the script for the MCU’s Blade if he was asked:

Marvel's Blade reboot was pulled from its release schedule in 2024. Before this, the film's production cited directors exiting the project, major delays, and massive shifts towards Marvel's other upcoming releases. While this Mahershala Ali-led superhero movie's details were shrouded in mystery, a former production staff member revealed where this movie would have taken place in the MCU timeline.
Blade's former costume designer, Ruth E. Carter, revealed in an interview that Marvel's Blade would have occurred in the 1920s and would have told a period piece about a vampire. Unfortunately, production was shut down due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and Writers strike, and she, along with other production staff, was stuck in limbo. Fortunately, her research was not wasted, as Ryan Coogler's 2025 feature, Sinners, has a similar setting.
In 2019, Kevin Feige revealed that Blade was in development and would have the two-time Oscar-winning actor to star in the feature.

"We've only done that one other time in Season 2. This time we were going to do it for multiple days and we were gonna fly out, like, 60 people from the cast and crew and writers and to be out there. So, you know, big expense, that sort of thing. We blew it out at the end."
The finale doesn't have a game-changing moment like year's,...

Poor old Blade. MCU fans have been eager to see Mahershala Ali portray the Day Walker on the big screen since the movie was announced way back in 2019. While the movie itself is stuck in development purgatory, fans finally have their first look at what Ali could look like as Blade... kind of. His live-action debut might still be a ways off, but Ali's Blade has technically already debuted in the MCU, in the animated series, What If...?. A brief glimpse of the character was shown in the Season 3 finale, and the character is set to return in Marvel Zombies. Ahead of Zombies' release later this year, Marvel fans have their best look yet at Ali as Blade.
Official concept art depicting Mahershala Ali as Blade was released on Instagram by Marvel concept artist, Justin Kim. The version of the character in What If...? isn't a faithful depiction of Blade,...

The first official look at Mahershala Ali’s Blade in the MCU has finally been released. Blade is briefly featured in the final seconds of What If…? Season 3, and now Marvel visual artist Justin Kim took to his personal Instagram to share the first HD image of Ali’s Blade as Moon Knight from an alternate universe. While this may not be the live-action look that we are all still waiting on pins and needles for, this Blade/Moon Knight hybrid variant is clearly inspired by the Oscar-winning actor, much more so than other What If…? Characters. What If…? Ali’s Blade as Moon Knight will also appear later this year in the animated series Marvel Zombies, which will be released on October 3.

That’s the thing that put Power on the map in the first place.

With crime sagas like “Power” and blockbuster films, Starz packs a surprising punch.
I recently wrote about how Starz absolutely crushes gritty crime dramas like “Power”, “Bmf,” and “Hightown,” (you can check that article here). But the truth is, there’s way more to Starz than just street-level thrills and crime sagas. The streamer’s also got a huge lineup of original hits, fan-favorite movies, and plenty of content you might not even realize is included – all at a very competitive price for a premium streamer. If you’re wondering what exactly Starz is, how to get it, and whether it’s worth signing up for, here’s everything you need to know.

The Blade reboot could be led by the director of another franchise with a badass lead character as the ill-fated Marvel Cinematic Universe looks to get back on track. Reports claim John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski is the latest filmmaker to take the reins of the long-gestating blockbuster.
According to Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Marvel has enlisted Stahelski to become the Blade reboot's third director since its 2019 announcement. Michael Green and Eric Pearson penned the latest draft of the film, with Stahelski tapped to direct as he's set to helm the Henry Cavill-led Highlander reboot and potentially John Wick 5 at Lionsgate.
Stahelski was reportedly chosen after Marvel passed on another director to lead Blade 4. Cary Fukunaga, who directed the most recent James Bond entry, No Time to Die, was reportedly in line for the job late last year. However, Sneider claims Fukunaga's reputation may have cost him the job.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’re coming up on the six year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Now, industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider has given us a bit of an update on the project, which we haven’t heard much about in the last year. During its time in development hell, Blade has gained and lost two directors: Bassam Tariq was the first and Yann Demange the second. Sneider reveals that the project has also passed through...

With hits like ‘Power,’ ‘Bmf,’ and ‘Hightown,’ Starz has mastered the art of street-level crime dramas that keep fans hooked.
The first time I realized Starz was doing something different was when “Power” blew up. It wasn’t just another crime show - it was a full-blown phenomenon, the kind that had fans dissecting every episode and debating character choices like they were real people. Then came the spin-offs – “Power Book II: Ghost,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” and “Power Book IV: Force” - each one expanding the world and proving Starz wasn’t just making crime dramas, it was building an empire. Add in “Bmf,” a gripping, real-life crime saga, and “Hightown,” a dark and twisty murder mystery set against Cape Cod’s heroin crisis, and it’s clear: if you want gritty, high-stakes crime dramas that pull you in and never let go, Starz is the best streaming service for it.

Marvel tapping Mahershala Ali for its troubled Blade movie was one of the biggest and most exciting announcements of 2019, and while the movie has yet to even begin production despite its original release date being in 2023, that hasn’t stopped Ali from finding roles in other projects. In a day swirling full of news, one of the more intriguing announcements via Deadline was that Ali would star in a new movie, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which comes from director Bassam Tariq. Tariq had previously been attached to direct Marvel’s Blade movie starring Ali, but it was announced in 2022 that he had departed the project to be replaced by Yann Demange, who also left the project last year. Blade is currently without a release date or director.
