Bruce Springsteen has unearthed a previously unheard song titled “Repo Man.” Leaning into a honky tonk sound, it’s taken fron Somewhere North of Nashville, one of seven previously unreleased albums collected in his forthcoming compilation Tracks II: The Lost Albums, out June 27th (pre-order here). Stream it below.

Somewhere North of Nashville was recorded concurrently with Springsteen’s 11th studio album, The Ghost of Tom Joad, in the summer of 1995. It was tracked live in the studio with much of the same band personnel, including Danny Federici, Garry Tallent, and Gary Mallaber.

Featuring other instruments like pedal steel from Marty Rifkin and fiddle from Soozie Tyrell, the album was inspired by honky tonk, rockabilly and uptempo country. “I’m singing ‘Repo Man’ in the afternoon and ‘The Line’ at night,” Springsteen recalled about the overlapping recording sessions.

The rocker helped induct Southside Johnny Lyon with the honor at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park. Bruce Springsteen called in to the E Street Radio channel on Sirius Xm to chat about his new record, “Western Stars” and share some news about a new film based on the music.

“We made a film of us playing the ‘Western Stars’ album start to finish, plus some other things,” he revealed. “I knew we weren’t going to tour, so I figured this was the best way to do it.

“[The film] is looking good — that will be exciting,” he continued. “It will be out in the calendar year.”

Springsteen confirmed the film was directed by Thom Zimny, who was also behind the camera for “Springsteen on Broadway,” and “Bruce Springsteen: Hunter of Invisible Game” (2014), among other films. He picked up a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video for “Wings on Wheels: The Making of Born to Run” (2005). A rep for the singer did not immediately have further information.

“Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption, Rock n’ Roll,” a new documentary exploring the roots of the New Jersey sound, is hitting theaters worldwide for an engagement on May 22 and 29.

The film chronicles the town’s founding, its Jersey Shore heyday and dark periods like the race riots of the 1960s.
