Mary Tamm

Trivia

Mary Tamm

Edit
  • She died in the early morning after an 18-month battle with cancer, at the age of 62. Her husband, insurance executive Marcus Ringrose, collapsed and died a few days later of a heart attack whilst replying to letters of condolence, shortly after delivering a eulogy at her funeral.
  • She was of Estonian heritage. Her surname - Tamm - is one of the most common Estonian surnames (literal translation; Oak).
  • She graduated from RADA and later became an associate member, joining the associate's committee. Tamm and her immediate predecessor, Louise Jameson, were the only Associate Members of RADA to have played a regular role in Docteur Who (1963) as a companion.
  • She started her career with the Birmingham Repertory Company in 1971, working alongside Derek Jacobi, Ronnie Barker and Joan Sims.
  • In 1976 she made a foreign film called Circles O' Tobias which was never completed.
  • She appeared in the film 'The Doubt (1976) which was never completed.
  • She had one child with her husband, Marcus Ringrose, named Lauren, who made them grandparents.
  • She attended Bradford Girls Grammar School.
  • Her husband was a Lloyds underwriter.
  • Confessed she'd written romantic short stories for women's magazines, which had been published - under an assumed name - much to her surprise.
