Junji Takada

Trailer for Toshiro Iijima's "Homecoming"
The official website for Toshiro Iijima’s upcoming comedy Homecoming has been updated with a trailer.

In his very first starring film role, 63-year-old comedian, actor, and television personality Junji Takada plays a recently retired businessman named Tokita who’s spent the majority of his life completely consumed with his job. Following his retirement celebration, he’s excited to return to his hometown with his wife and settle down. However, he soon discovers that his formerly ideal town—which was once the setting of a famous television drama—is now home to a sleepy population averaging 68-years-old. In order to combat this, Tokita gathers a committee of locals and old friends in an attempt to plan a town revitalization festival.

The Klock Worx will be releasing “Homecoming” in Japan on March 12, 2011.

Junji Takada gets his first starring film role at 63
Comedian, actor, and television personality Junji Takada is set to topline a film for the very first time at the age of 63. The project is titled Homecoming and was directed by Toshihiro Iijima (Kinyobi no Tsumatachi e).

Takeda plays a man who’s dedicated most of his life to his job. However, after reaching the age of retirement, he channels that dedication into his steadily-aging hometown by reviving the local festival in the hopes of restoring some bustle and excitement.

The story depicts a serious problem in modern Japanese society, as plunging birthrates have caused a steady incline of the average age in many areas. However, the casting of Takada, who’s been called one of the kings of Heisei-era comedy, presumably insures the subject will be handled with an added touch of humor.

“Homecoming” will be released in Japan in March 2011.
