Steven Tabakin is an award-winning New York-based producer with credits in narrative and documentary feature films, television, and live theater. Based at Triple Birch Media, he is presently developing and producing several feature films and scripted series, as well as a play with music about legendary jazz composer Billy Strayhorn. He produces live events, provides video content, and consults for various clients. He was a founding partner at Tashtego Films where he produced Margaret Whitton's directorial debut A Bird of the Air and documentaries including How to Let Go of the World (Josh Fox), Heart of Nuba (Kenneth A. Carlson), and Casting By (Tom Donahue). Prior to forming Tashtego Films, he was a longtime creative collaborator of George C. Wolfe at The Public Theater where, as Associate Producer, he commissioned, developed and produced many acclaimed plays and musicals. At Thirteen/WNET New York, he created and was series producer of Stage on Screen for PBS, overseeing several innovative film adaptations of plays, including Beckett on Film, which was recognized with a Peabody Award. He also produced multi-camera Great Performances specials and documentaries about the arts, including Richard Eyre's landmark series Changing Stages. He produced Bob Balaban's film adaptation of The Exonerated for Court TV, starring Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Delroy Lindo, Brian Dennehy, and Aidan Quinn (American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award). Originally from Pittsburgh, he lives in South Orange, New Jersey with his wife and three children.
