Trivia

Senta Söneland

Edit
  • Dark-haired comedienne, the daughter of a Prussian regimental commander. Worked as a teacher before making her theatrical debut in 1910. For most of the decade active on the Berlin stage and in cabaret. A leading activist in Germany's women's suffrage movement. Appeared in comedy support in several films of the early 30's.
  • Senta Söneland committed suicide in 1934 and ended the film career in the new arising sound film era.
  • As it was usual before World War I her contract at stage contained the clause that she wasn't allowed to work for the film business because of its bad reputation.
  • When the theater scene grew weary at the beginning of World War I, a lot of contracts were terminated and the stage actors and actresses seized the opportunity to begin in the film business, so did Senta Söneland.
  • In the following years she only appeared in movies now and then, she even got an own film serial with "Senta as....", but she concentrated her main activity to the theater.
  • She was a successful stage actress who normally impersonated humorous roles.
