Biography

    • Brad Sykes is an award-winning filmmaker and author based in Los Angeles. During high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brad wrote and directed shorts (one of which won the top prize in a PBS-sponsored competition) and features (including The Pact and Dreams of the Dead) on video before attending Boston University's film program, where he graduated cum laude. After moving to Los Angeles and working in production and development for companies including Paramount Pictures, Scott Free, and Full Moon Entertainment, Sykes made his professional writing/directing debut with the horror comedy Scream Queen, starring genre icon Linnea Quigley.

Sykes has since written and directed over twenty-five feature films, including the first digital 3D horror movie, Camp Blood. Camp Blood was a worldwide success and has become one of the longest running franchises in indie horror, with its first two sequels (Camp Blood 2 and Within the Woods aka Camp Blood 3) also written and directed by Sykes. Sykes' film Death Factory was its distributor's all-time top-grossing title and was also later sequelized. Sykes' other writing-directing credits include Goth, Mad Jack, Demon's Kiss, Plaguers (winner Best Screenplay at the 2008 Estepona Film Festival and Best Actor Steve Railsback at 2008 Shockerfest), Hi-8: Horror Independent Eight (called "The Expendables of SOV Horror" by HorrorHound) and its sequel Hi-Death and Hi-Fear. Sykes also executive produced Joe Dante's Burying the Ex, starring Anton Yelchin and Alexandra Daddario.

Sykes' films stream on platforms including Amazon, iTunes and Tubi and enjoy releases on DVD/Blu Ray all over the world. His movies have received attention in The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, the Los Angeles Times, EW, The Dark Side, Rue Morgue and LA Weekly as well as books including "Bleeding Skull", "The Mammoth Book of Slasher Movies", and "Legacy of Blood".

Additionally, Sykes is the author of "Terror in the Desert: Dark Cinema of the American Southwest" (McFarland) and "Neon Nightmares: L.A. Thrillers of the 1980s" (BearManor). He has contributed to Fangoria, Midnight, Route and Indie Slate. Since 2019, he has been the curator and guest lecturer of the "Weird Western" film series at the Autry Museum of the American West.

Brad Sykes lives in Los Angeles with his wife, producer Josephina Sykes, where they operate Nightfall Pictures, a full-service development and production company. Recently, Brad co-wrote and directed Transylvania Tapes, a passion project filmed on location in Romania that combines the found footage and Eurohorror genres. Transylvania Tapes is currently in postproduction.
