Switched from acting career to publicity, joining John Springer Associates in L.A. in 1973. Represented such stars as Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis, who had played his mother in Un mariage du tonnerre (1956).

After Ray had been signed by 20th Century-Fox, a powerful Hollywood gossip columnist predicted that Ray "could be the next Montgomery Clift.".

Stage: Made Broadway debut in 1952 in "The Climate of Eden".

He is survived by his companion, stage director David Galligan, and his sister, Mary Ann.
