Historical Mockumentary Has Viewers Hooked On Netflix ( Photo Credit – Netflix )
Netflix might have slipped something into its lineup that is catching viewers off guard and in the best way. A short, sharp comedy series is gathering serious attention, not with explosions or capes, but with powdered wigs, petty rivalries and a heavy dose of dry humor.
What Is 1670 About on Netflix
The show is called 1670, and it has been quietly winning people over since it dropped in late 2023. It has got eight episodes and a style that feels like it walked straight out of The Office, then took a hard left turn into 17th-century Poland. Instead of modern-day office politics, it dives into the ridiculous world of nobility, small-village leadership and exaggerated historical ambition.

[Warning: The following post contains major spoilers about Dexter: Resurrection Episode 6, “Cats & Mouse.”] Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) found himself in double trouble by the end of the latest episode of Dexter: Resurrection. After Mia a.k.a. “Lady Vengeance” (Krysten Ritter) was arrested for her many murders — and one attempt foiled by Dexter — all of Leon Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) crew went into crisis mode. Charley (Uma Thurman) scrambled to gather and calm — or perhaps just control — his secret friends, while Gareth a.k.a. The Gemini Killer (David Dastmalchian) and Al a.k.a. Rapunzel (Eric Stonestreet) worried she might turn them in and needed to be dealt with. Prater, who was in the middle of a publicity stunt (being interviewed by Lesley Stahl and the like), didn’t seem to disagree. Dexter was not a fan of Gareth’s blasé (and sexist) attitude about Mia, and he was especially disgusted by him after looking at photos ...

Tomorrow, Netflix is premiering Leanne, a new sitcom. Some will think of this as a vehicle for stand-up comic Leanne Morgan, which is fair: It is her name in the title, she’s credited as a co-creator and the show revolves around her character, also named Leanne, navigating a midlife split from her longtime husband Bill (Ryan Stiles). Some will categorize it among the many multicam sitcoms for which its co-creator, Chuck Lorre, is known, including Two and A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and Dharma & Greg. But discerning viewers will have marked “New Kristen Johnston show” on their calendars as soon as Morgan, during her guest co-host stint, threw to a preview clip on Today’s fourth hour.
For any who doubt whether Johnston should always be considered a headliner — including in Leanne, where Johnston’s character Carol is undeniably the sidekick to her sister, the show...

Dexter: Resurrection Episode 4 saw the introduction of 4 new sinister serial killers. Episode 4, titled “Call Me Red”, aired on July 25, 2025, where Dexter (Michael C. Hall) infiltrates a dinner party. At the dinner, we are introduced to Krysten Ritter’s Mia or Lady Vengeance, Eric Stonestreet’s Al or Rapunzel, Neil Patrick Harris’ Lowell or the Tattoo Collector, and David Dastmalchian’s Gareth or the Gemini killer (via Vulture).
Lady Vengeance, as the name suggests, hunts down sexual predators; Rapunzel or the ponytail guy has an inclination toward picking victims with ponytails because of unresolved mommy issues; the Tattoo collector collects the tatted skins of his victims, and the Gemini Killer is a Zodiac analog, and by far the most serial killer-esque of the lot.

We’re four episodes into Dexter: Resurrection, and things are really starting to heat up. Episode 4 gave us just enough chaos and tension to keep us guessing, and introduced a whole new batch of serial killers for Dexter to acquaint himself with - one of whom already found his way onto Dexter's table.
I was recently able to catch up with series newcomers Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones; Daredevil: Born Again), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family; The Secret Life of Pets), and David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man and the Wasp; Late Night with the Devil) to talk about jumping into this wild world of blood and murder. They opened up about their twisted new characters, how they bring a different kind of energy to Dexter’s story, and why this season feels like the perfect mix of fresh blood and old-school Dexter vibes - and, of course, how they'll do their best to avoid Dexter's wrath.

Dexter: Resurrectionstar David Dastmalchian may have only just crossed paths with Dexter Morgan, but the show’s new villain has teased a major twist to come. Serving as the franchise’s second sequel series, and the continuation of 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, the franchise’s latest chapter sees Michael C. Hall’s titular anti-hero drawn into a secret society of serial killers.
During the new show’s fourth episode, Dastmalchian is introduced as the quietly unassuming Gareth, aka the Gemini Killer. Other members of the society include Krysten Ritter’s Lady Vengeance, Neil Patrick Harris’s Tattoo Collector and Eric Stonestreet’s Rapunzel.

Spoiler Alert: The following article contains major spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Episode 4.
The fourth installment of Dexter: Resurrection finally assembles its complete ensemble, introducing the principal antagonist, Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a wealthy philanthropist orchestrating the inaugural gathering of a sinister, clandestine society.
This episode, titled “Call Me Red,” presents Michael C. Hall’s Dexter adopting the guise of another serial killer as he encounters kindred spirits of his own dark persuasion. Much like the consequences he endured when forging alliances with Arthur Mitchell and Miguel Prada, he is compelled to seek connection, ignoring every caveat. Dexter‘s creator is revealing a surprising fact about one of the cast members!
During the Dexter Resurrection panel at San Diego Comic Con on Friday (July 25), Dexter creator Clyde Phillips revealed that Eric Stonestreet had previously auditioned for the original 2006 series.
The Modern Family actor plays the role of serial killer Al Jolly on Dexter Resurrection, but he nearly had a very different role.
Keep reading to find out more…
“A thousand years ago when we first started this show, Eric Stonestreet came in, and he was a working day-player actor,” Clyde said during the panel. “He came in to audition to be one of the victims of Brian Moser. And he didn’t get the job. The next week, the week he would have been working for us as a victim of Brian Moser, he went and auditioned for Modern Family.”

[This story contains major spoilers from Dexter: Resurrection episode four, “Call Me Red.”]
After a brief bout of death, Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan has wasted little time getting back into the business of killing.
Four episodes deep into showrunner Clyde Phillips’s Dexter: Resurrection, the titular serial killer has already put a couple of fellow killers under the knife — with plenty more still to go, based on what he uncovers in this latest outing, “Call Me Red.” The episode sees Dexter posing as the late Red Schmidt, alias “The Dark Passenger,” a New York City killer whose name just so happens to be the same as Dexter’s own internalized code. Taking on the guise of Red, Dexter infiltrates a clandestine meeting of the serial killer minds, hosted by Leon Prater, a massively wealthy serial killer admirer played by Peter Dinklage. Prater, working alongside security operative Charley (Uma Thurman), regularly assembles a cadre...

Spoiler Alert !!!!!The following contains spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Episode 4!!
The latest episode of Dexter: Resurrection brings up a new lineup of serial killers that Dexter meets at Leon Prater’s convention, including Eric Stonestreet’s Al. Best known for playing the vivacious and fun-loving Cam in the hit sitcom Modern Family, the actor is taking a darker turn in the Showtime hit as he embodies a serial killer.
And immediately after his debut, Al has also drawn comparisons with one of the most notorious Dexter antagonists so far, Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, a blood-thirsty killer hiding in the guise of a normal family man.
Stonestreet is honored by the comparisons, as he told TV Insider, “I even appreciate being mentioned in the same sentence as the Trinity Killer.” However, he also noted that despite the apparent similarities, there remains one aspect that makes his character ‘very unique’ for the Dexter-verse.

A unique dinner party
As we ended last week, Dexter dispatched with Red (Marc Menchaca) and learned he’d been invited to a special gathering. The gathering promised to connect him to people with similar proclivities. This piqued Dexter’s interest as he saw it as a way to take more bad actors off the board. He’s returned to his old ways with a flourish, feeling more himself.

Modern Family is my breakfast show, you know what I mean? I watch it every day with breakfast, to set the tone for the rest of the day. That’s how much I love and revere every character in it. When I heard the news of the Modern Family spinoff being cancelled, I had bittersweet feelings about it.
I would have been excited about seeing Mitch and Cam in the Missouri setup, but I would have missed the rest of the family a lot. Let’s get into what happened and why the Mitch and Cam story, which was so close to being developed, didn’t happen.
Modern Family Spin-off: The Missouri Poster Boys That Got Cancelled Before They Began
Modern Family finally said goodbye to grieving fans in the year 2020, with Mitch(Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) moving to Missouri to be with Cam’s side of the family.

Managing over 750 storylines of a sitcom show sounds terrifying, doesn’t it? Well, Modern Family sure did it throughout its eleven seasons. Yep, you heard it right. Of course, that’s a massive challenge for the showrunners- balancing dozens of characters, their evolving relationships, and intertwining arcs, which all require incredible focus and creativity.
And no, it wasn’t just about writing funny moments; it was about keeping the story consistent, meaningful, and engaging across hundreds of episodes. As creator Steven Levitan perfectly described it (via The Paley Center for Media),
You’re thinking so hard it’s, you know, like doing a math problem while doing a Rubik’s Cube.
Well, that kind of intense multitasking went into every episode, as the team worked to give each character a distinct voice and arc. Despite the complexity, the show perfectly managed to deliver heartfelt humor and relatable stories that resonated...

When the milestone family sitcom Modern Family came to an end five years ago, there were inevitable rumors about spinoffs. Modern Family ends with most members of the central extended family taking off on different adventures, potentially setting up spinoffs focused on one or multiple Og characters in a new setting.
As the older kids of the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker clan prepare to travel for school, work, and leisure, Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell) talk about spending some time on the road, and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) are moving out to Missouri with their kids for Cam's new job, and to be closer to his family.
This last development was the most likely starting point for a Modern Family spinoff, but the series never came to fruition. In a recent interview with Collider, star Julie Bowen mentioned this spinoff that never happened. While Bowen has "no...

When one has enjoyed a long, storied career in acting, there comes a time when they notch up several iconic roles to their name. Shawn Hatosy’s career fits that bill, and he has earned his first ever Emmy nomination for his role in HBO Max's medical drama, The Pitt, where he plays Dr. Jack Abbot. Following his nomination, Hatosy sat down with Deadline to discuss his most iconic characters over the years. One of them resides in the Dexter television series.

“Talk about a killer debut,” nine out of 10 news stories on this topic will begin.
The Dexter: Resurrection premiere drew 3.1 million global cross-platform viewers in its first three days, representing a 46% larger audience than what the Dexter: Original Sin prequel series opened to last December.
The return of grown-up Dexter also delivered the most-streamed premiere in Showtime history, putting up 44% bigger numbers than Original Sin, and marking a 76% improvement on Dexter: New Blood (circa November 2021).
TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “A”; get Michael C. Hall’s take on the surprise cameos and see what Jack Alcott (who plays Harrison) said about the season’s gruesome first kill.
“Dexter: Resurrection delivered an electrifying performance that not only rekindled a fiercely devoted fanbase but also captivated a new generation of viewers — shattering records with Showtime’s most-streamed premiere ever,” Chris McCarthy, President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said in a statement. “This triumph underscores the lasting impact of this iconic franchise, brought to life by Michael C. Hall’s unparalleled portrayal and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips’ visionary creative leadership.”
A continuation of New Blood, Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (played by Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City determined to find him and make things right.
Closure, though, won’t come easy. “When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast,” the series synopsis reads. “As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.”
Dexter: Resurrection also stars Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry, and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater. For a television franchise as influential as Dexter, nothing short of absolute domination on the viewership charts can be considered successful. The franchise returned recently with a new sequel series, titled Dexter: Resurrection. Set in the aftermath of the events shown in Dexter: New Blood, the series finds everybody's favorite serial killer, played by the returning Michael C. Hall, mentoring his now-grown son Harrison in the ways of "the Code," while evading the suspicions of his old buddy, Angel Batista. Although Resurrectiondebuted to positive reviews and impressive ratings, the show seems to have taken a rather unexpected tumble.

Modern Family helped break TV ground by featuring a married gay couple in primetime, but Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s experience playing Mitchell Pritchett wasn’t all celebration. While the show earned plenty of praise for its progressiveness, Ferguson revealed on his podcast Dinner’s On Me (via Cbr) that some of the most stinging backlash came from the very community he was representing.
“One of the pressures I’ve always felt, specifically after being on a show like Modern Family, where I’m portraying a gay man on a television show, on a network that is as popular as it is. You receive criticism, as you do, with anything you do, but the criticism that I think I heard the loudest was always from the gay community, feeling as if, maybe, I didn’t represent their idea of what a gay relationship was, or a gay man was.”

It would seem like the "dark passenger" missed the boat. The latest revival of the landmark series Dexter, Dexter: Resurrection, debuted recently to mostly positive reviews. It's the third time that the series has been brought back after its original run, which ended with an infamously lackluster finale in 2013. Dexter: Resurrectionhad a decent start on Paramount+, but it has already surrendered its crown to the wildly popular crime drama MobLand. Headlined by Tom Hardy and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, MobLand concluded its debut season weeks ago, but it remains a force to be reckoned with on the Paramount+ charts.
Not only did it beat Dexter: Resurrection on July 14, according to FlixPatrol, it also out-performed Taylor Sheridan's platform-defining hits Yellowstone, 1923, Lioness, and Tulsa King, all of which found spots on the top 10 list. Dexter: Resurrection took a tumble, and dropped to the fifth spot. Headlined by original star Michael C. Hall,...

Jesse Tyler Ferguson starred as Mitchell on the hit series Modern Family, playing a gay man who is married to Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and is accepted by his family. But throughout the years, Ferguson has had to answer for people thinking that there is something wrong with this character, and Ferguson recently opened up about feeling the pressure from fans to not be a stereotypical gay man in the series. Ferguson was on his own podcast, Dinner's On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and spoke about feeling the pressure of playing Mitchell.

Before Modern Family became the beloved sitcom it is today, finding the perfect Haley Dunphy was crucial, and Sarah Hyland literally had it from the start. Yep, from her effortless comedic timing to her “I just rolled out of bed but still slay” vibe, she embodied the teenage chaos that made Haley unforgettable.
Creator Steve Levitan recalled the casting moment with Emmy TV, saying,
We were down to two Haleys… I don’t know what it was, she just looked believable to me. You’d stick that BlackBerry in her hand and she became my daughter. And plus, those eyes—they’re so expressive and she’s adorable… There’s not a fake moment in her performance. It just rings true.
Hyland’s Haley wasn’t just a pretty face with a phone obsession, she was sweet, chaotic, and sneakily sharp underneath all the mall trips and boy drama. Whether...

Modern Family’s one risky move that almost re-wrote Manny’s character was giving him Asperger’s syndrome. To all those thinking about it, this wasn’t just clickbait, but a notion that was conceived to be told. The showrunner, Steve Levitan, from his personal story, considered this thing for Manny’s character.
In an interview with Emmy TV Legends (via FoundationINTERVIEWS) the creator said,
We talked a lot about Manny for a while. Manny was going to have Asperger’s, because that was a subject that I was really fascinated by. I went who better to frustrate Jay, and we worked, we played around with that for a long time and and the fear was it got too serious, that it would be tough going down the line.
The idea was discussed for a while, and it was thought that it could add a new layer to the storyline...
