Tom Selleck's Next Jesse Stone Movie Has The Perfect Role For Donnie Wahlberg After Blue Bloods
Image
If Tom Selleck is returning to Jesse Stone now that Blue Bloods has officially wrapped, there is a perfect role for co-star Donnie Wahlberg to take on. Before Blue Bloods arrived, Selleck was busy co-writing and starring in the Jesse Stone movies, a series of noirish mysteries. Selleck's busy schedule with CBS' long-running police drama prevented him from returning to Stone in recent years, but now Blue Bloods has ended there's talk of Jesse Stone 10 coming together.

Selleck has stated his interest more than once - though he told TV Insider that he doesn't know what his next gig will be. It's been close to a decade since he last played Jesse, so much will have changed in the Paradise police chief's life in the intervening years. The next Jesse Stone would be smart to add some Blue Bloods cast members to the ensemble to draw more eyeballs to the TV movie saga,...

The Real Story Behind Jesse Stone's Saddest Character Death Makes It Even More Devastating
Image
The ninth Jesse Stone movie reveals that the title character's best friend Reggie the Dog has passed away, which is even more tragic thanks to a behind-the-scenes story. Reggie appeared in seven of the nine Jesse Stone movies, with Tom Selleck's police chief adopting the golden retriever mix after he is found next to the body of his previous owner. The two developed a fascinatingly dysfunctional relationship, where they showed little affection for one another but were closely bonded anyway. This is what makes the reveal of Reggie's death in Lost in Paradise so moving.

In the opening scenes of the ninth film, Jesse stands by Reggie's grave and states ”It took so long to acknowledge a connection, admit there was a bond... Life plays tricks on you." While audiences had previously seen major characters like Viola Davis' Molly exit the Jesse Stone series, the loss of Reggie cut especially deep.

Tom Selleck's Blue Bloods' Role Is Great, But I'm Sad One Jesse Stone Promise Wasn't Fully Kept
Image
Although I love Blue Bloods, I'm sad that one promise about Tom Selleck's Jesse Stone series of movies wasn't kept. For the past fourteen years, Selleck has starred on one of my favorite television dramas. Blue Bloods is a police procedural that is popular partially because it focuses on a family of cops rather than only on the case of the week. Despite continued high ratings, CBS has canceled the series and there are only a few episodes left of Blue Bloods before it leaves the airwaves permanently.

One potential silver lining to Blue Bloods ending is that Selleck may be able to return to the Jesse Stone series of movies. He has starred in nine Jesse Stone movies as a small-town sheriff who struggles with alcohol abuse and who focuses on work to keep himself sober. While these movies are also popular, the last one was made in...

Jesse Stone Movies In Order
Image
Based on the novels by the late author Robert B. Parker, the made-for-tv Jesse Stone movies chronicle the life of a dysfunctional police chief as he fights crime and his own demons in the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts. Starring Blue Bloods' Tom Selleck (who almost starred as Indiana Jones), most of these films can be streamed on various platforms.

With nine Jesse Stone movies released since 2005 (and a long-hoped-for 10th installment looking more likely now that Blue Bloods is gearing up for its final season), it can be a bit daunting to watch the entire series. That is especially true because the second installment is technically a prequel that sets up the first. Watching the Jesse Stone movies in order by the timeline arguably makes for the best viewing experience, allowing viewers to better appreciate Stone's journey as a police chief.

Why Viola Davis Left The Jesse Stone Franchise (& Will She Return For The Next Movie?)
Image
Viola Davis exited Jesse Stone to focus on her film career, leading to her success with major roles in movies like Doubt. Molly Crane left the force in Sea Change and moved to L.A. to start a family. While it's uncertain if Viola Davis would return for Jesse Stone 10, fans still hope for a cameo.

Viola Davis made an early exit from the Jesse Stone series, but would she ever return as Molly Crane? Tom Selleck has had some notable hits on the big screen like Three Men and a Baby, but he's best known for his television work. Magnum P.I. famously cost him the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it's still it's the show that made him a star. In addition to fronting many Western TV movies like Monte Walsh in the years following Magnum P.I., the star fronted another...

Blue Bloods' Ending Means Tom Selleck Can Finally End His Other Big TV Franchise
Image
Tom Selleck's commitment to Blue Bloods hindered his return to the Jesse Stone series. The last Jesse Stone movie was released in 2015, with Selleck expressing interest in another entry. Fans should expect an update on Jesse Stone 10 after Blue Bloods wraps up.

Now that Blue Bloods is wrapping up, Tom Selleck can finish off his other TV franchise after a decade-long break. It's part of the movie's lore that Raiders of the Lost Ark almost cast Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, but the latter's commitment to the Magnum P.I. pilot forced him to drop out. Of course, it was Magnum P.I. that made Selleck's career. This CBS series was a huge hit and allowed the star to branch out to movie work like Three Men and a Baby.

The star has had some hits on the big screen, but audiences know Selleck best for his TV work like Magnum P.

Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and Will Estes in Blue Bloods (2010)
Blue Bloods Final Season Cast And Character Guide
Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and Will Estes in Blue Bloods (2010)
It's time to face the sad truth: Blue Bloods will end in December 2024.

I'll miss the Reagans terribly, almost as much as if my real family was moving away.

Still, there are eight episodes to go before we say our final goodbyes, and this Blue Bloods character and cast guide honors every member of this wonderful fictional family.

Family Is The Backbone of This Show

Blue Bloods stands out among the ridiculous number of police procedurals on air because of its unique emphasis on family.

That's what makes this series so popular, and millions of people are devastated that CBS won't renew it despite the huge backlash against its cancellation.

Every episode includes a scene at the Sunday dinner table full of laughter and conversation, sometimes beginning with the family saying Grace before the meal, and the Reagans often turn to each other throughout the episode for support.

I Thought Tom Selleck Was Born With A Mustache: Photos Of The Actor Young
Image
Tom Selleck began his acting career without his famous mustache, catching the eye of talent scouts on "The Dating Game". Selleck broke out as a massive TV star in Magnum, P.I., earning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his iconic role. His enduring TV career includes roles in Friends, Blue Bloods, and even a role on soap opera The Young and the Restless.

When Tom Selleck was young, or at least younger, he did not always sport his famous mustache in his performances. There are a few types of memorable movie mustaches, but none are named for the men who wear them. Tom Selleck is doubly famous for both his distinguished movie and TV career and for his thick, walrus-esque mustache. Selleck's official acting career began in 1969, in an episode of Lancer, as the one-off character "Dobie". Since then, he's been a mainstay of procedural crime TV and movies,...

Every Jesse Stone Movie, Ranked According to IMDb
Image
Jesse Stone is a far cry from Thomas Magnum. With over five decades in the business, Tom Selleck stepped into another career-defining role as the titular character in the made-for-tv movie franchise Jesse Stone. The series is based on the characters of a 21-book crime novel series by Robert B. Parker. For over a decade, Selleck stepped into the shoes of a brooding, weathered police chief with a past of his own. Premiering primarily on CBS and rerunning on Hallmark Channel, these TV movies were a hit with audiences.

The Correct Order To Watch The Jesse Stone Movies
Image
Somewhere, at this very moment, someone's dad is probably watching one of the Jesse Stone movies on DVD, and that man is having a great afternoon. After this, he might pop in "Ford v. Ferrari" for the seventh time.

The character of Jesse Stone began his life in a series of airport novels written by the late Robert B. Parker. The first Jesse Stone novel, "Night Passage," was published in 1997 and it followed the titular former LAPD detective (and divorced recovering alcoholic) as he investigated money laundering and murder in Paradise, Massachusetts. Parker had a hit on his hands with "Night Passage," and proceeded to writer eight additional Jesse Stone novels from 1998 up until his death in 2010. Jesse Stone had become an institution at that point, and other authors began writing Stone novels in Parker's style. There have been 11 additional Jesse Stone novels written after Parker's death.

Starting in 2005, Jesse...

The TV Movie Franchise With Higher Ratings Than Some of Your Favorite Shows
Image
It's not often that made-for-tv movies are actually good enough to warrant a sequel, let alone a plethora of them. Sure, the Hallmark Channel may be known for its recurring movie series, but that's not exactly true for prime-time networks like CBS. Yet, for nearly a decade, that's exactly what former Magnum P.I. and current Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck and CBS did with their live-action adaptation of the popular Jesse Stone detective novels written originally by Robert B. Parker. And believe it or not, these TV movies beat out some of your favorites in the ratings game.

How to Watch the Jesse Stone Movies in Chronological Order and By Release Date
Image
Tom Selleck is well-known for his TV work on Blue Bloods but also starred in detective novel adaptations as Jesse Stone. Jesse Stone movies follow the character's journey as a disgraced homicide detective facing corruption in a small town. The Jesse Stone movies are best watched in release date order to follow the character's arc and long-term storytelling.

Even though the actor has had a long and storied career for the past 50-plus years that has included such shows and movies as Magnum P.I and Three Men and a Baby, actor Tom Selleck is well known these days for his TV work on a weekly CBS family cop drama known as Blue Bloods. Along with cast members Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan, this long-running series has captivated primetime fans with its endearing tale of the Reagan family, who are tasked with continuously saving NYC from all sorts of criminal activity.

Every ‘Jesse Stone’ Movie in Order
Image
It’s been over seven years since audiences could tune in for Tom Selleck’s latest turn as Jesse Stone in the ongoing series of movies based on Robert B. Parker’s novels. Nine installments in a decade is certainly a respectable run, especially considering a third of them were when Selleck was also a series regular on Blue Bloods. Despite the fact that the character is 35 in his debut novel, decision makers went with 60-year-old Selleck, a household name since the ‘80s thanks to Magnum, P.I. & Three Men and a Baby (among other things), for the role and it’s no mystery why. As for that bountiful police work, well, things can get pretty tough and that’s obviously where the canine companions and a drinking problem come in.

How Blue Bloods Transformed Tom Selleck’s Legacy
Image
Tom Selleck's career took a downward turn after his film stardom in the late '80s, leading him to return to television with shows like Friends and the Jesse Stone film series. Selleck found a breakthrough role as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in the police drama series Blue Bloods, which has surpassed Magnum, P.I. in terms of public recognition. Selleck's transition from the playboy private investigator Magnum to the revered Commissioner Reagan reflects a stark contrast in his career, cementing his status as a trusted and admired performer.

When the iconic CBS television series Magnum, P.I. ended in 1988, after eight seasons, it seemed as if the show's star, Tom Selleck, who won an Emmy in 1985 for his portrayal of private investigator Thomas Magnum, was essentially finished with television. After all, in 1987, Selleck achieved major film stardom after several previous failed attempts, with his starring role in...

10 Best TV Movies, Ranked
Image
Since the Silent Era, theatrical releases have been a prime pastime, thanks to larger-than-life stories and the sense of silent community in theaters. Because of this dominance, big-screen films tend to overshadow many made-for-tv movies, regardless of quality. Such films get commissioned by networks or streaming services and are often produced on lower budgets, but shouldn't be scoffed at.

Despite the medium's undue reputation as being worse in quality, plenty of fabulous made-for-tv films have been made. The best have great plots, thought-provoking dialogue, and performances that elevate the material beyond the smaller screen viewing.

New ‘Jesse Stone’ Movie Ordered By Hallmark; Tom Selleck Returns As Star
Jesse Stone fans’ prayers have been answered — after a three-year break, the popular Jesse Stone TV movie franchise will resume with its signature star, Tom Selleck, on a new network, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Hallmark has picked up Jesse Stone: Lost In Paradise, a ninth movie in the detective series, which is in pre-production in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a fall 2015 premiere. The previous eight movies aired on CBS, which opted not to order more after No. 8, Jesse Stone: Benefit Of The Doubt, despite its respectable premiere viewership, 13 million.

The broadcast networks have pulled away from original movies. CBS also dropped the venerable Hallmark Hall Of Fame franchise in 2011 after 16 years. After a three-year run on ABC, Hhf last year moved to Hallmark Channel. With both Hhf and the Jesse Stone films, Hallmark already had been airing reruns of the previously produced installments to solid ratings.
