Her father taught her gardening; her mother taught her how to cook, bake and sew. Their next door neighbors (retired bakers) taught her how to bake pies and cakes.

One of the first female stockbrokers (at Perlberg, Monness, Williams and Sidel) on Wall Street. She got her license on 14 August 1968.

2nd of six children. Her parents, Martha (Ruszkowski) and Edward Kostyra, were both born in New York. All of her grandparents (Franciszek Kostyra, Helena Krukar, Josef Ruszkowski, and Franciszka Albiniak) were Polish immigrants.

Under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for suspicion of insider stock trading. She held stock in a company called ImClone and had a close relationship with the firm's CEO. She sold all her stock holdings shortly before the firm suffered a severe financial setback and its stock price plummeted so low as to make the stock virtually worthless. The government, and her stockbroker's assistant, said it was because she got inside information from her CEO friend. Stewart said it was a coincidence and her broker had orders to sell the stock when it fell to a certain price. The investigation is continuing. (October 2002)

Due to her criminal record, she was forced to cancel her trip to Nova Scotia to attend an annual pumpkin festival in October 2005. In the past she would have been free to go, but because of her record requires a visa to enter Canada. Days later she was granted a visa in record time thus drawing the ire of critics who say that she was given undue political favor.

She was inducted into the 2011 New Jersey Hall of Fame for her services and contributions to Enterprise. She was inducted on October 27, 2019 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Her mother, Martha Kostyra, passed away November 16, 2007 at age 93.

Friends with Glenn Close, Snoop Dogg, Paul Newman, Rosie O'Donnell, and Mark Burnett.

She was paired with rapper Busta Rhymes to present the MTV Video Music Award for Best Dance Video in 1997. It received a fair amount of attention in the press that year, in large part because despite coming from wildly different backgrounds, Busta and Stewart had great on-screen chemistry and worked well off each-other.
