Benjamin Stephens, Jr. was born in our nation's capital, Washington, DC. At a young age, his family moved to Forestville, MD, located in PG County, just outside of DC. He is the oldest of two children, born to his mother, Beryl, and father, Benjamin Stephens, Sr.

After graduating from Archbishop Carroll High School, Ben earned a basketball scholarship to Shepherd University. Growing up, his desire was to play in the NBA. Upon graduating from college, Ben played overseas on several touring teams, including one assembled by super agent David Falk. Ben traveled to Los Angeles to play in a summer PRO-AM at the Long Beach Pyramid. However, he caught the acting bug while appearing in a local commercial.

Ben began his career with guest roles on Moesha (2000), The Parkers (2000), and Frasier (2001) before making his breakthrough performance as Curtis Duncan in the BET/Netflix crime drama series The Family Business (2020-present). He has since starred as the same character in the much-anticipated spin-off The Family Business: New Orleans!! (2024), starring Brandon T. Jackson and Lela Rochan. Ben is also on the producing team of The Family Business franchise as well as The Black Hamptons.
