Peter Spirer was born in New York City. His rock group The Toyz opened
for Joan Jett, Survivor, Motorhead, Zebra and the Ramones. While
playing in the band he began directing music videos, corporate films,
commercials and MTV spots. His first documentary, _Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann (1993)_, was
nominated for an Academy Award.
