Paul Spurrier
Paul Spurrier began his career in film as a child actor, working alongside Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Roger Moore, Sir John Mills and many others. He dropped out of USC film school, returning to London to take a more technical approach at the London Film School. After film school, he formed a company that made marketing videos for a number of brands including Pizza Hut, Blockbuster Video, Intel, and IBM. Paul directed his first film 'Underground' in 1998, which was selected as one of the contemporary British films as part of the controversial 'Sensations' exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. When a job for the BBC took Paul to Thailand, he fell in love with the country. In 2004, Paul fulfilled an ambition to become the first 'western' director of a Thai language film with 'P'. He spent an increasing amount of time in Thailand, and has been based in Bangkok full-time since 2005. He found employment in the Thai film industry, working as cinematographer on the Thai historical epic, 'Edge of the Empire', and as line producer on the U.S. film 'Formosa Betrayed'. He returned to directing in 2016 with 'The Forest', which became the first Thai film to be acquired exclusively worldwide by Netflix. In 2018, he wrote and directed 'Eullenia' - a pioneering Thai television series targeted at an international market. Through a collaboration with the Siam Sinfonietta orchestra, Paul directed 'The Maestro', which won the 'Spirit of Cinema' award at the Oldenburg Film Festival. For over ten years, Paul has assisted Thai government ministries in promoting Thai skills and talent at international film markets.
