Quentin Tarantino slept on his couch when starting out in a film career, as he often had nowhere to stay and was penniless.

Used to share a house in Los Angeles, California with directors Sam Raimi and Joel Coen, producer Ethan Coen and actresses Holly Hunter, Frances McDormand and Kathy Bates. Later shared a house with film editor Bob Murawski.

Introduced Quentin Tarantino to producer Lawrence Bender, who helped Tarantino get Reservoir Dogs (1992) made. Tarantino subsequently credited Spiegel with helping him establish his filmmaking career.

Went to high school with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. All three men remain friends to this day.

Formed production company, Raw Nerve, with film directors Eli Roth and Boaz Yakin, which focuses on producing horror films.
