Derrick Speight is an American producer, director, and executive who has produced film and television projects globally. As VP of Programming & Development at Complex Networks, he oversaw all digital, linear, and theatrical projects, including fan-favorite series 'Sneaker Shopping' and 'Goat Talk.' Beyond managing the content slate, he led the development of original productions and acquisitions for the network. He also played a pivotal role in curating Buzzfeed's extensive archives into film and television properties.
At BET Digital, Speight served as Head of Originals, leading development and production for all digital series, specials, and pilots. Under his leadership, BET Digital launched 16 original series, including Webby-nominated 'Sip N' Smoke' with Cam Newton and 'Cooked in 5.' He also directed the network's hit sketch comedy series Spoof Deez.
Prior to his executive roles, Speight worked as a showrunner and producer, producing more than 40 network series, including iconic franchises 'The Bachelor' (ABC), 'Biggest Loser' (NBC), 'Surreal Life' (VH1) and 'The Mole' (ABC). His commercial directing portfolio includes national campaigns for Cricket Wireless, Iams, and Livestrong.
A Charlotte, North Carolina native, Speight is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and currently resides in Los Angeles.
