Ryan was born in Wilmington, Delaware. He moved to Troy, Michigan when he was young and attended Interlochen Arts Academy near Traverse City for high school. Upon graduation, he moved to Los Angeles. He then relocated to New York City and enrolled in The Juilliard School. While attending Juilliard, Ryan wrote, produced, and starred in three feature films and two short films. He is a Drama Desk winner, and lives in New York City.
