Deadpool Trilogy Star Joins Dave Bautista & Jason Momoa's Action Comedy
Image
The upcoming action movie The Wrecking Crew just added another familiar face, this time from Deadpool's universe.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Morena Baccarin has been cast as the girlfriend of Jason Momoa's character, a "loose cannon cop" who must team up with his Navy Seal half-brother (played by Dave Bautista) to solve a family murder together. The film is expected to begin production sometime next month in New Zealand, though an official release date hasn't been announced yet.

Liev Schreiber was surprised to learn the campaign for his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo had such a huge following.

Baccarin is the latest addition to The Wrecking Crew's cast, which recently brought in Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jacob Batalon to play a "foul-mouthed private investigator" connected to the murder victim, as well as The Book of Boba Fett's...

Blue Beetle Star Insists Villain Carapax Isn't Pure Evil: 'He Was Just a Victim in All of This'
Image
Blue Beetle star Raoul Max Trujillo recently emphasized the "humanity" of the upcoming DC Universe blockbuster's secondary villain, Conrad Carapax.

Trujillo insisted that Carapax (also known as "Indestructible Man") is more than just a one-dimensional baddie in an interview with Screen Rant. "I think what I brought to it with the help of [director] Angel [Manuel Soto] is a humanity to [Carapax] that we see lurking at the beginning," he said. "It's subtle and it's nuanced, but it's there behind his eyes, behind every command given to him. You see something going on, and you're not quite sure what it is. As the film goes on, his humanity is completely revealed."

Blue Beetle Director Has One Marvel Actor In Mind For Pending Bane Project
Image
Director Angel Manuel Soto's "Blue Beetle" will give DC fans their first Latino lead superhero and early buzz for the film suggests it's a unique and emotional ride. Telling the story of young Jaime Reyes ("Cobra Kai" star Xolo Maridueña) and his discovery of an ancient artifact that transforms him into the titular superhero, "Blue Beetle" will try to make up for DC's recent run of lackluster efforts. If it can turn things around, Manuel Soto will have done the seemingly impossible with a film that was originally set for a straight-to-streaming release.

Interestingly enough, as Variety reported back in July, when he received the call to meet with Warner Bros., Manuel Soto had a whole pitch ready to go and it wasn't for "Blue Beetle." His idea was to give Batman villain Bane an origin story, in a not dissimilar way to Todd Phillips' "Joker." This take would,...

Blue Beetle Confirmed to Be the First Dcu Superhero
Image
DC Studios head James Gunn recently confirmed that Blue Beetle will be the first superhero to debut in the DC Universe.

Gunn recently sat down with the Inside of You podcast to discuss taking over as co-chair and CEO of DC Studios and writing/directing the upcoming superhero film, Superman: Legacy. It was during an exchange with host Michael Rosenbaum about the differences between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Dcu that Gunn revealed Blue Beetle as the first Dcu character audiences will meet: "I mean the first Dcu character, for sure, is Blue Beetle, and the first full Dcu movie is Superman: [Legacy]."

When Gunn came in to run DC Studios with Peter Safran, the duo inherited four superhero films from the previous regime -- Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Blue Beetle will be the first official character of the new DC universe, James Gunn confirms
Image
Earlier, the star of Blue Beetle, Xolo Maridueña, was wise not to put the cart before the horse in regard to the character’s standing as a franchise as he wanted to wait to see how the movie does, “If we get one movie or a trilogy and f*cking fold this into the Justice League shit, we’re ready for the whole nine. For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.“. However, it was a little murky on which regime of the DC film universe the origin story would fall under. The new head of DC at Warner Bros., James Gunn, recently appeared on the Inside of You podcast with Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum and has confirmed that Blue Beetle will be the first character in his DC universe.

According to The Wrap, the Superman: Legacy director stated,...

Blue Beetle: A new pair of posters have been released by Warner Bros. for the upcoming DC superhero film
Image
Before the full-on universe reboot that is headed up by James Gunn and Peter Safran makes its debut, the former DC film world still has a few movies on its slate. The Flash will finally be making its way into theaters this week, and we’ll see if the early buzz on it will match its success. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release later this year. However, in between these films, there will also be a big-screen adaptation of a lesser-known DC superhero in Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle may not exactly be a marquee name, but the character dates back to the 1930s with the brand.

Warner Bros. has recently dropped a couple of new posters for the upcoming film, which stars Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña as the titular character. He is joined by such name actors as Susan Sarandon and George Lopez. Maridueña plays a...

Blue Beetle Star Xolo Maridueña Is Gearing Up For Sequels And Crossover Movies: ‘We’re Ready For The Whole Nine’ – Exclusive Image
Image
Dating back to the 1930s, Blue Beetle is one of DC’s most venerable superheroes. But aside from a single episode of Smallville, he’s never made it to the screen in live action… until now. Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña stars as Jaime Reyes, a directionless college graduate who develops unpredictable powers after inadvertently bonding with the Scarab — an ancient relic of alien biotechnology — and being gifted with an incredible symbiotic suit of armour. The trailer, released in April, managed to simultaneously conjure vibes of Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Spy Kids franchise, and this first Blue Beetle movie may not be the last.

Blue Beetle, as a DC Movie Universe project, pre-dates the arrival of new head honchos James Gunn_ issue, is certainly optimimistic that there’ll be room for him on Gunn and Safran’s new roster. “If we get one movie or a trilogy and fold this into the Justice League shit,...

Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña is down for a sequel and beyond
Image
It remains to be seen whether Blue Beetle will have a place in the new DC Universe, but star Xolo Maridueña is already prepared to return for a sequel.

While speaking with Empire, Xolo Maridueña said that Blue Beetle may not simply be a leftover of the Dceu, but that all depends on how the movie performs. “If we get one movie or a trilogy and fucking fold this into the Justice League shit, we’re ready for the whole nine,” Maridueña said. “For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.“

It’s hard to tell if Blue Beetle will strike enough of a chord with audiences to warrant a sequel, but it is making history by bringing a major Latino hero to the big-screen. “The goal was to create a movie for a young me and a young Angel that said,...

Blue Beetle Star Wants in on the Dcu’s Justice League
Image
While his eponymous character's movie has yet to arrive in theaters, Blue Beetle leading man Xolo Maridueña has expressed interest in joining the DC Universe's version of the Justice League.

Maridueña shared this desire while speaking to Empire, saying, "If we get one movie or a trilogy and fucking fold this into the Justice League shit, we're ready for the whole nine. For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers." The future of both properties in the Dcu is currently up in the air, though a rumor from earlier this year claimed that the Blue Beetle would stay a part of the franchise. That said, DC Studios co-presidents and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran haven't confirmed anything regarding Blue Beetle, so this news should be taken lightly.
