Good friends with Gérard Philipe.

He was buried in Pernes-les-Fontaines wearing his Cyrano De Bergerac costume, according to his wishes. His wife only kept the hat and the fake nose.

He played two different roles in different adaptations of "The Three Musketeers": Porthos in Les trois mousquetaires (1959) and Cardinal Richelieu in Les 3 mousquetaires : 1ère époque - Les Ferrets de la reine (1961) and Les 3 mousquetaires : 2ème époque - La Vengeance de Milady (1961).

Accomplished stage actor, known for his hugely acclaimed portrayal of Cyrano De Bergerac.

Before he died, he was supposed to play a role in Le Guépard (1963).
