"Jon Arryn and Ned Stark were good men. Honorable men. But they disdained The Game and those who play it." Varys told Tyrion, the man who would finally convince Jon Snow to end 'The Game.' In Game of Thrones, power belonged to the best players of the game from the day Aegon Targaryen changed the rules by flying dragons into King's Landing.

Tywin was good at it and ruled for years both under the Mad King and Robert, but when Joffrey beheaded Ned Stark, the game got too complicated even for him. "Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell. They are all just spokes on a wheel." Daenerys said. Daenerys was wrong though because it wasn't a wheel, it was a complicated game with unwritten rules. She was one of the biggest losers because she lost everything with all the odds in her favor.

The long-running Friends is one of the popular sitcoms to ever hit television, and that definitely also holds true in terms of dramas for HBO's Game of Thrones. The gang at Central Perk are iconic, and fans love seeing which one they're most like, or where they would end up at Hogwarts, or what their zodiac sign is.

The first face-to-face meeting between Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow in "The Queen's Justice," was rife with disagreement, and distrust. As a consequence of the North's declaration of independence, Jon refused to bend the knee to her. This compelled the Dragon Queen to artfully recap her horrendous journey for Jon, thereby proving she was more than someone with a family name.

The maesters, aka The Knights of the Mind, were the most important class of people after Kings and Queens in Game of Thrones, but they were rarely credited for their role in shaping the show. Maester Aemon Targaryen, with his "Love is the death of duty" advice, ended up determining the fate of Daenerys Targaryen when Jon Snow chose the realm over love.

From the likes of Pycelle, who only cared about power, to Qyburn, who was obsessed with weird experiments, some maesters were just too crooked.

Jon Snow might have been one of Game of Thrones' luckiest characters, as well as one of its unluckiest. Throughout his childhood, Jon endures scorn for being a bastard. His tenure with the Night's Watch is no better. He lives a harsh life in the bitter cold at the Wall, risking his life to fight wildlings and White Walkers, and even facing betrayal from his own sworn brothers.

Samwell Tarly may be one of the less divisive characters of the series, however, while garnering an abundance of sympathy, he has also made some less favorable moves. Samwell Tarly could well be one of the least morally ambiguous characters throughout Game of Thrones. As Jon Snow's shy and defenseless best friend, Sam is one person who truly seems to care for the greater good. If not for Jon taking him under his wing, Sam may well have never survived many of the events of the series, yet he somehow maintains his independence and likability, for the most part.

Daenerys has the most confusing character arc on Game of Thrones (aside maybe from Jaime Lannister). Like Jaime, all of Daenerys' character development seems to go out the window in the last few episodes of season eight. The character arc of Daenerys Targaryen was (and remains) one of the most controversial aspects of Game of Thrones. More than any other character, she developed and changed as the show progressed, until the very moment when she became that which she’d always feared: the Mad Queen. Her destruction of King’s Landing and her death at the hands of Jon Snow were and are endlessly debated by both fans and television critics.

Jon Snow was quickly a fan favorite character on HBO series Game of Thrones. A protector and the presumed bastard son of Ned Stark, he decided to join the Night's Watch where he believed he could become the man of honor he always wanted to be.
It was later discovered (spoiler alert) that Jon wasn't a bastard at all, but actually the son of Ned's sister Lyanna and the prince Rhaegar Targaryen, who were in love despite Lyanna having been promised to another. With Jon's biological father Rhaegar dead, he was the last remaining living Targaryen male and the true heir to the Iron Throne. But he didn't know it.

Tormund Giantsbane was one of the best characters on Game of Thrones. As the de facto leader of the Free Folk, he was crass, caveman-like, and didn’t mince words. He wasn’t afraid to slice your head off but would also happily clink glasses and share some ale. And behind his rough exterior was a logically-thinking leader with killer instincts. Chicago – The year 2019 was when everyone, including myself, seemed to struggle to focus. Politics suddenly appeared to be all consuming when we have an administration as George Orwell predicted, trying to convince so many not to believe their own eyes.
“What you are seeing and what you are reading is not happening,” proclaimed the President in July. This eerily echoed Orwell’s warning. “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears … it was their final, most essential command.” Meanwhile the Commander-in-Chief was enthusiastically tweeting out images with his head badly photoshopped onto different bodies.
Last year 98 celebrities posed for my lens, and a fashion accessory – both on and off the red carpet – became quickly apparent. A modest poem about that trend … If you were a fashionable male/One worshipped by the masses/And you posed for my lens last year/You were probably wearing glasses.

The Jon Snow actor was the only “GoT” cast member nominated for an award — and the show didn’t snag a nod in any other category — so when he lost Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama to “Succession” lead Brian Cox, the eighth and final season lost, too. Welp, either way it was a win for HBO. Cue “Succession” theme song.

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington came up short Sunday at the Golden Globes, falling to HBO’s Succession lead Brian Cox in the Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama category.
The loss was the last hurrah at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig for HBO’s epic series based on George Rr Martin’s book series. The show wrapped its record-setting eight-season run in May.
Harrigton’s loss in the category means GoT won just a single Golden Globe among eight nominations in its lifespan. Five noms came for Best TV Series – Drama, in 2012, 2015 and 2016-2018. Harington had been nominated tonight the first time.
Its only win? Peter Dinklage won a supporting Globe in 2012.
While not apples to apples, by comparison Game of Thrones won a total of 59 Emmys among a record 160 nominations, and 10 wins for its eighth and final season including Best Drama Series for a fourth time.

As far as the Golden Globes are concerned, winter continues for “Game of Thrones.”
The HBO behemoth walked away empty-handed from Sunday night’s telecast after a final season that was not well received by either critics or viewers.
The result isn’t entirely surprising given that the show previously won only a single Golden Globe, and its only nomination this year was for Kit Harington in the best actor in a drama series category. Harington, who played the character of Jon Snow, lost out to Brian Cox of “Succession.” Others in the category were Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”), Tobias Menzies (“The Crown”) and Billy Porter (“Pose”).
That solitary Globes triumph for “Game of Thrones” came in 2012 when Peter Dinklage, who played fan-favorite character Tyrion Lannister on the show, picked up a gong for supporting actor in a series, miniseries or motion picture made for television. Dinklage’s on-camera sister...

Kit Harington was admittedly feeling a little lonely without the majority of his Game of Thrones cast at the 2020 Golden Globes. "I'm a little jealous of the Succession dudes," the actor joked in a red carpet E! interview. The celebrated series famously did not receive any nominations for its final season, with the exception of Kit, whose portrayal of Jon Snow earned him his first best actor nod.
When asked if he misses his Game of Thrones character, Kit said, "I think about him all the time." He added, "I loved it, but it's in retrospect that you start loving it. You moan about it a lot at the time."
While other Game of Thrones stars like Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie, and Peter Dinklage were notably missing, Kit was joined by one very important costar: his wife, Rose Leslie. The couple, who was spotted attending a charity event in London just before the holidays,...

The North remembers, and so does Kit Harington. On the red carpet at the 2020 Golden Globes, Game of Thrones star and Golden Globes nominee Harington stopped by E! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a Game of Thrones fan.
Full of drama, action, noteworthy betrayals, epic monologues, and its own language, Game of Thrones, adapted by HBO from the book series by George R.R. Martin, quickly stole the hearts of millions of people around the world.
In spite of a disappointing season finale episode, until recently, I would have argued that Game of Thrones was the best show of the last decade.
Then I found Watchmen.
For starters, the female characters in Watchmen were refreshing contrats to the "damsel in distress" or "sidekick" roles historically played by females on screen.
Both the show's heroine and the show's formidable villain Lady Trieu were strong female characters throughout the series.
While Game of Thrones had its share of strong female characters, most of them suffered confusing character shifts by the end of the series.

We examine the wildly different ways Star Wars and Game of Thrones chose to end their sagas, and why many fans were disappointed by both.
This article contains major Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Game of Thrones spoilers.
One attempted to give fans everything they said they wanted while the other openly defied those expectations; one concluded with happily ever after while the other basked in tragedy and a lack of resolution; and one made its central heroine an official Skywalker while the other stabbed her in the heart. This is the tale of two massive endings to two of the past decade’s most celebrated fantasies, Star Wars and Game of Thrones. Yet together they make one mirror, each reflecting the different roads that can be taken to the same endpoint: crushing disappointment among fans.

“Game of Thrones” ended its eight-season run on HBO with another 12 Emmys this past fall, including a record-tying fourth victory for Best Drama Series. But the Golden Globes have never been that into the show. However, despite that bias, Kit Harington made the cut for Best TV Drama Actor for the first time. Can he win? One of our Top 24 Users thinks so.
Our Top 24 got the highest scores predicting last year’s Globe winners for TV, which gives their forecasts more weight in this year’s race. Given the show’s shortfall over the years — it has never won Best Drama Series and only took home a single acting award for Peter Dinklage in 2012 — it makes sense that Harington is an underdog according to the combined predictions of all our users, but top user Barry thinks he’ll actually pull it off.

In a political fantasy series like Game of Thrones, there are bound to be some tense relationships, but none is quite as fraught as the one between Cersei and Tyrion Lannister. Even though the two are siblings, their dislike for one another is apparent from their very first interaction. And although things between the two of them become more complicated as the series progresses, it's hard to get past all the times they've betrayed one another.

Shortly after HBO released Game of Thrones: The Complete Eighth Season, the Golden Globe nominations were unveiled and its considered a surprise that the series was virtually shut out. After the long wait, the truncated final season arrived this year and rather than take a victory lap, it was showered with complaints.
When the series, adapting George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels, arrived, people were stunned at its scope, sweep, violence, sensuality, and strong performances. You weren’t sure who to root for as the status quo kept shifting and beloved characters kept dying in unexpected, messy ways.
Phrases and names seeped into public consciousness just as the series began exhausting the extant prose and then charged ahead while Martin struggled to finish the current novel, in the cycle. Series Executive Producers/Writers/Directors David Benioff & D.B. Weiss got direction from Martin and then increasingly veered off in their own direction.

Yes, fam, the eighth season of Game of Thrones is coming, and though the actual season won't be on your TV until 2019, you can see Jon Snow, aka Kit Harington, filming scenes for the epic final season. Harington is in Croatia, meaning he's still chilling in King's Landing after his roll in the hay/boat with Daenerys and their ill-fated "negotiation" with Cersei. These are some of the first pictures, and here is one other obvious thing: Jon Snow is still alive! Hey, that means something when we once spent a whole year between seasons wondering this very thing. The King in the North clearly still has business in the seat of the crown, but we're wondering exactly what he's doing at the Red Keep. Harington also managed to have a break while filming in the old town of Dubrovnik, puffing on a cigarette and chugging between scenes. Kings! They're just like us.
