Still Gaga for Goggins After ‘The White Lotus’? Stream This Gritty Cop Show for Free!
Image
Walton Goggins has been everywhere lately, whether as an undead gunslinger on Fallout, a resort guest on The White Lotus, or as old-school preacher Uncle Baby Billy on The Righteous Gemstones. But now you can watch the TV show that made his career – for free. The free, ad-supported streamer Tubi has added all seven seasons of the gritty crime drama The Shield. Created by Shawn Ryan, The Shield was inspired by the excesses and corruption of the anti-gang unit in the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division. The Shield stars Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey, the head of the Strike Team, a special police unit in Farmington, a fictional crime-ridden district of L.A. Based in an abandoned church known as The Barn, the Strike Team is as violent and corrupt as the criminals it purports to oppose.

In addition to Mackey, the Strike Team also includes Shane Vendrell...

"It Was Sacrilegious": Why The Shield Almost Didnt Air After 9/11 Recalled By Walton Goggins
Image
The Shield almost didn't air after 9/11 due to its negative portrayal of police officers, but the success of Training Day reassured FX to proceed. The show premiered in March 2002 and became one of the greatest television series of all time, offering a gritty, realistic depiction of law enforcement. Despite concerns about sensitivity, The Shield presented a complex view of law enforcement that resonated with audiences, not conflicting with the heroism of police during 9/11.

Walton Goggins recalls why The Shield almost didn't air after 9/11, saying "it was sacrilegious." Premiered in March 2002, the FX series follows the corrupt police officers who make up an experimental division of the Los Angeles Police Department that works to reduce gang-related crime by using criminal methods themselves. The Shield cast includes Goggins as Detective Shane Vendrell alongside Michael Chiklis, Catherine Dent, Reed Diamond, Michael Jace, Kenny Johnson, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, Cch Pounder, Glenn Close, Cathy Cahlin Ryan,...

Why Did Kenny Johnson Leave The Shield In Season 6?
Image
Kenny Johnson's character, Detective Lem, was killed off in The Shield for creative reasons and was a part of the show's planned ending. The other actors on the show were upset about Johnson leaving but eventually understood the writers' decision. After The Shield, Johnson gained a role on S.W.A.T. through his working relationship with creator Shawn Ryan.

Sadly, Kenny Johnson's Detective Curtis "Lem" Lemansky did not appear in all seven seasons of The Shield since the actor parted ways with the television show following the season 5 finale. The FX crime drama series aired from 2002 to 2008 and centered around the Strike Team, a group of corrupt cops that worked for the Los Angeles Police Department. They used unorthodox (illegal) methods to bump their success rate, even though justice was rarely served whenever they were called upon to help rid the neighborhood of crime.

Aside from Johnson as Lem,...

‘Door In The Woods’ Review
Stars: Jennifer Pierce Mathus, David Rees Snell, Cj Jones, John-Michael Fisher, Katherine Forbes, Cassie Self, Elisabeth Bate, Mark Landon Smith | Written and Directed by Billy Chase Goforth

I quite like the title Door In The Woods and the images it conjures up. In my head I had some kind of weird horror version of Monsters Inc. Where a door acted like some kind of portal to other worlds or maybe open our world to all kinds of beasts and monsters. There are endless possibilities, and while this film does, kind of, attempt some of these on a low budget, it maybe doesn’t have quite enough ambition.

For starters, the door doesn’t stay in the woods for very long. The central family in the story go for a hike and discover this door. They decide (well the mum of the family decides) that the door would be perfect for their house,...

Greatest TV Finales: The Shield ‘Family Meeting’ brings the Strike Team to “justice”
The Shield, “Family Meeting”

Written by Shawn Ryan

Directed by Clark Johnson

Original airdate November 25, 2008

For seven seasons The Shield displayed some of the most vile people doing increasingly desperate things. As fascinating as it all was there was an understanding, even from the pilot, things just weren’t going to end well for the majority of the characters involved.

From the very beginning Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) was far from a good man: we’d watched him kill a fellow officer, set up a massive robbery, lie and manipulate Strike Team members who trusted him, and countless other crimes that were horrifying and unimaginable.

The final season of The Shield saw Vic scrambling to hang onto the very fragile world he’d created as old lies come to light. His ex-wife Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) has learned of his crimes and agrees to work with Dutch (Jay Karnes) and...

Sons of Anarchy Welcomes Cch Pounder, Its Sixth Veteran of The Shield
Once again, Kurt Sutter has revealed his bitter reluctance to let go of his days as a writer on The Shield. Though the former FX series ended back in 2008 and Sutter had moved on to starting up and running his own show on FX, he has been bringing back the stars of The Shield for little guest spots on Sons of Anarchy for years. At some point you just have to let things go. If Jack from Lost can learn to let go, certainly Sutter can finally release the death grip he has on the days he spent writing on The Shield. Alas, Sutter has brought yet another Shield alum to Soa.

I would recommend Sutter find some counseling before he starts asking Michael Chiklis to do a guest spot. In the meantime, Cch Pounder will be guest starting on Season 6 of Soa, reports EW. She’ll have a multi-episode arc as Tyne Patterson,...

She'll portray a district attorney who crosses path with Jax and company.

Pounder will debut on episode two of Sons of Anarchy Season 6.

She joins an impressive guest list that includes Drea de Matteo, Jimmy Smits and Donal Logue, all of whom appeared last year, and Kim Dickens, who will pop up as a Madame.

'Sons of Anarchy' adds Cch Pounder to Season 6 cast
Another veteran of "The Shield" is making her way to "Sons of Anarchy."

Cch Pounder, who earned an Emmy nomination for playing Detective Claudette Wyms on the former FX drama, will have a recurring part on Season 6 of "Soa," EW reports. She'll first show up in the season's second episode.

The casting reunites Pounder with "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter, who was a writer and producer on "The Shield." Much of the regular cast of that show, including Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, Kenny Johnson and David Rees Snell, has since appeared on "Sons."

On "Sons of Anarchy," Pounder will play a prosecutor who crosses paths with Samcro.

Pounder currently has a recurring part on "Warehouse 13" and co-stars in the movie "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," which is due in theaters in August.

"Sons of Anarchy" begins its sixth season on FX in the fall.

Last Resort, Ep 1.04: “Voluntold” brings pressure to the boiling point for some characters
Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 4: “Voluntold”

Written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman

Directed by Steven DePaul

Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC

Ever since the premiere of Last Resort, the issues and factors that have affected the USS Colorado have all happened in quick succession. In the span of a week, the submarine’s crew have found themselves going from respectable members of American society to international criminals, caught between a rock and a hard place, and going up against an adversary who is not only much more powerful, but whose orders they unquestioningly obeyed until very recently. The death of Redman at the hands of Serrat has only served to heighten the tension, so a boiling point spillover was inevitable, and the Us government’s attempts to accelerate the process not exactly helping. This episode sees some of the effects on a few characters who have been...

Last Resort, Ep 1.01: “Captain” promises Shawn Ryan’s most ambitious show to date
Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 1: “Captain”

Written by Karl Gajdusek and Shawn Ryan

Directed by Martin Campbell

Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC

FX’s cop series The Shield stands as a classic television show, giving viewers complex storylines, three dimensional characters that couldn’t be easily categorized as either good or evil, and performances by the likes of Glenn Close and Anthony Anderson that made people regard them in a new light. While this is show creator Shawn Ryan’s most well-known show, and deservedly so, he is by no means a one-trick pony; he subsequently went on to create two more excellent series in Terriers and The Chicago Code, neither of which, sadly, saw a second season. Thankfully for television fans, Ryan hasn’t gotten discouraged; rather, he’s gotten right back in the saddle, signing a deal with Sony even as The Chicago Code was on its last legs.

The Shield: 10 Years On
(Please Note: This article looks back at the entire run of The Shield, making occasional spoilers somewhat inevitable)

When The Shield first appeared out of the blue on March 12th 2002, many were quick to immediately dismiss it. On first glance it seemed like just another routine cop drama, featuring yet another cliché maverick cop who refused to play by the rules. The fact that it was on FX didn’t help either – a then low-key cable network with little experience in producing its own original drama and better known for showing re-runs of shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The X Files. To make matters worse, for UK audiences the show ended up in a late-night slot on Channel 5, which back then still had a reputation for peddling softcore porn and dodgy films.

Anyone who tuned in to the pilot episode was quick to find out that this wasn...

Kurt Sutter Talks Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Finale and What's Coming in Season 5
Kurt Sutter
FX aired the explosive Season 4 finale of Sons of Anarchy on Tuesday, December 6, which raises a lot of questions for Season 5 next year. Series creator Kurt Sutter recently held a conference call to discuss the fallout from this finale, Episode 4.14: To Be, Act 2, and here's what he had to say below.

So, 'Opie' lost his wife and his father because of the club, and 'Jax' has lost his father; his son was kidnapped, and 'Tara' was injured. Why is it that these guys can stay so loyal to the club despite being-it seems to be bent on destroying them?

Kurt Sutter: I think ultimately, as we've talked about with some of the characters-but I think it's really for the most part it's all these guys know. And for me it's the crux of the drama-at least with 'Jax'-is he was raised in this world, and it's all he knows,...

Haunting at the Beacon and Feeding that Horror Itch: A Movie Review
Director/writer: Michael Stokes.

Every Halloween this reviewer needs to see a horror film everyday or every other day. Satisfying this horror fix is Michael Stokes' A Haunting at the Beacon aka The Beacon. This is a film released on DVD September 13th and starring are Teri Polo (Meet the Parents), David Rees Snell ("The Shield") and Michael Ironside. Haunting at the Beacon is perfect for this holiday of souls because the writing is tense, the characters are interesting and the climax made this reviewer look twice. It is hard not to look twice when you see Ironside snarling in icky green face paint.

Polo plays Bryn Shaw a woman dealing with grief and the loss of her son. Unfortunately, she picks a haunted apartment building to find solace. A young boy appears in a black and white photograph as a ghostly figure. Later, he sneers with devilish eyes.

TV Review: Sons Of Anarchy 4.1 – Out
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

So firstly something of an apology is due. For those following the coverage of Season 3 currently airing in the U.K on Five U.S, you’ll have noticed the reviews being mysteriously absent from the site over the last few weeks. Thanks to Channel 5s scheduling clashing with the U.S premier of the brand new season, the decision was made to focus on the new episodes rather than a season that first aired almost over a year ago.

With that out of the way, so begins our weekly coverage of FX’s brand new season of their superb biker drama – with Samcro’s prodigal son Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) planning to finally leave the club for once and for all. A mix of macho action and almost Shakespearian drama, Sons Of Anarchy continues to be an excellent show with gripping storyline and great performances...

'Haunting at the Beacon' Review
by Michael Pickle, MoreHorror.com

I value the service I provide here at MoreHorror. I would like to think that I help some of our readers in their search for good horror. I've been told that I succeeded on a few occasions and it makes me feel downright giddy. The other service I provide comes with a hint of sadness. That is the service of informing horror fans about films that are a potential waste of their time. Time that can be better spent on the abundance of great films that the horror genre has to offer. Haunting at the Beacon is one of those that comes with a warning. It's not a complete waste of time, but most of it is.

This ho-hum haunting opens with young couple Bryn and Paul Shaw (Teri Polo, David Rees Snell) moving to the Beacon Apartments trying to recoup from the loss of their 4 year old son.

Sons Of Anarchy Season 4 Casting
New castings on FX’s Sons of Anarchy’s fourth season are leading to a reunion for some of the former actors of The Shield, starting with the season premiere. That first episode, which airs Sept. 6 with feature David Rees Snell (Det. Ronnie Gardocki on The Shield) playing an Atf agent investigating Samcro now that they’ve been let out of prison. The boys had better stay away from guns, booze and smoking while they have this guy sniffing his noise in their business.

Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Extended Promo

In the second episode of the season, Benito Martinez (Capt. David Aceveda on The Shield) will be on the opposite side of the law compared to Snell. He’ll be the right-hand man of the Mexican drug cartel Samcro will be working with. I’m sure Martinez will have fun doing this role after playing law enforcement on The Shield for seven years.

Haunting at the Beacon also stars Michael Ironside, Davis Rees Snell and Elaine Hendrix.

Fans of film might recognize director Stokes from his writing on the horror feature The Marsh (2006) starring Forest Whitaker, or the high-octane thriller Exit Speed (2008). Haunting at the Beacon is Stokes directorial debut and this latest feature stays true to Stokes trend to write, almost exclusively, restricted rated horror features. Get your haunted disc below and re-visit the ghostly trailer inside.

Episode Recap: Lie To Me - 2.19: "Pied Piper"
Jason Wilkie (David Marciano) waits to die. He prays in Latin as the execution chamber is readied. The viewing room is full: members of his defense, the victim's family, prosecutor Zoe Landau (Jennifer Beal) and Cal Lightman (Tim Roth). When asked if he has any last words, Wilkie delivers a rhyme laying blame for the death of an 8 year old child on the Pied Piper, which isn't him. And to his horror, Lightman believes him. After a futile effort trying to stop the execution, Lightman watches helplessly as an innocent man is given the lethal injection. Tonight's Lie to Me (TV) was a reunion for The Shield (TV) with nearly all the guest cast being former Shield alums. I guess that's fitting, since the show runner also comes from that show. Immediately after Wilkie's execution, Lightman wants to reopen the file to find what he's missed, despite Zoe's objections. Then,...

Lie to Me: Watch The Shield Cast Reunion Episode
Last night, several members of the cast of The Shield reunited on a special episode of Fox's Lie to Me. Those taking part are Benito Martinez, Catherine Dent, David Marciano, David Rees Snell, Cathy Cahlin Ryan, and Kenny Johnson.

The Shield was created by Shawn Ryan, one of the current executive producers of the Lie to Me Fox drama. He's also the husband of Cathy Cahlin Ryan.

Of the reunion episode, Ryan said, "It's just a fun alternate universe with all these people you're accustomed to seeing in a certain environment... It was different, but I think everyone was just really happy to see one another again. I think it meant more on a personal level even than a professional level. We had a very tight-knit group on that show, so to be able to reunite... was very nice."

In case...

'Lie to Me' - 'Pied Piper': Re-opening The Barn door
Last night's "Lie to Me" was an old-fashioned kind of stunt episode, in which most of the notable guest roles were played by castmembers from producer Shawn Ryan's last show, "The Shield." So we got David Marciano as a convicted killer ready for execution, David Rees Snell as his brother, Catherine Dent and Benito Martinez as a victim's relatives, Kenny Johnson as a calendar photographer with a dirty secret, and Cathy Cahlin Ryan (wife to both Shawn Ryan and Vic Mackey) as a mental patient. Nice as it was to see so much of the old gang from Farmington all together...

Miss 'The Shield'? Watch Tonight's 'Lie to Me'
Shawn Ryan

Shawn Ryan may have stepped down as showrunner for the upcoming third season of 'Lie to Me' on Fox, but the executive producer still has a trick up his sleeve before he leaves. In tonight's episode, fans of Ryan's 'The Shield' can look forward to guest spots from five -- yes, five -- 'Shield' alums, according to TV Guide.

The episode centers around a married couple, played by Catherine Dent and Benito Martinez, who connect with Lightman and Zoe at the execution of the man accused of killing their son 17 years earlier -- only Lightman isn't so sure they're watching the right man die. That's when Ryan got to pull in some of his other friends. The trail leads to the executed man's brother (David Rees Snell) and ex-girlfriend (Cathy Cahlin Ryan), and ultimately to a photographer (Kenny Johnson).

Martinez said of the experience,...

'The Shield' stars to visit 'Lie to Me'
Dr. Cal Lightman may have made a serious error, and the cast of "The Shield" are involved.

"The Shield's" Catherine Dent, Kenny Johnson, David Marciano, Benito Martinez, Cathy Cahlin Ryan and David Rees Snell will descend upon "Lie to Me" as guest stars for an upcoming episode.

This en masse casting coup is courtesy of "Lie to Me" executive producer Shawn Ryan, who snagged an Emmy for writing on "The Shield."

In the episode, Dr. Lightman (Tim Roth) witnesses the execution of convicted child murderer Jason Wilkie (Marciano), who he helped convict. But maybe Lightman made a mistake. The victim's aunt and uncle (Dent, Martinez) are targeted once again, and so Lightman questions Wilkie's younger brother (Snell) and ex (Ryan), which leads him to key suspect Malcolm Hessler (Johnson), a photographer.

The episode, title "Pied Piper," will air sometime next spring.

The back nine episodes of "Lie to Me" was recently picked up,...

Lie to Me + The Shield = Best Casting Stunt in TV History
You got us, Lie to Me.

With a packed Monday night of television each week (Heroes, House, Dancing with the Stars, Gossip Girl), most TV Fanatic staff members have never seen this Fox drama.

But that will change for the episode "Pied Piper," as producer Shawn Ryan has recruited a slew of guest stars for the installment, all of whom are former cast members of The Shield; i.e. the best show in the history of television.

Ryan, of course, created The Shield, which ran on FX for seven seasons.

The aforementioned episode, airing in early 2010, focuses on Lightman and Zoe, as they wonder whether they sent an innocent man to prison nearly two decades earlier for murdering a young boy.

Entertainment Weekly reports the following Shield alumni will take on the following roles:

David Marciano: the accused Death Row killer. Cathy Cahlin Ryan: his ex. David Rees Snell...

'Lie to Me' reunites the cast of 'The Shield'
Ok, the laugh-a-minute Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm, this probably won't be. But The Ausiello Files has learned that The Shield executive producer Shawn Ryan has rounded up half a dozen members of his old show's cast to guest star on his new show, Lie to Me. Through next Tuesday, hard at work on the season's 12th episode, "Pied Piper," will be Shield alumni Benito Martinez, Catherine Dent, Kenny Johnson, David Marciano, Cathy Cahlin Ryan and David Rees Snell. The hour's plot: Lie to Me's regular crimefighters, Lightman (Tim Roth) and Zoe (Jennifer Beals), wonder whether (oopsie!) they...

DVD Review: Spectacular ‘The Shield: The Complete Series Collection’
Chicago – All seven season of the Emmy-winning, groundbreaking “The Shield,” easily one of the best programs of the ’00s, have been collected into one absolutely gorgeous set for “The Shield: The Complete Series Collection”. This time of year usually produces several complete series sets to essentially re-sell already available programs to holiday shoppers. This is one of the best.

DVD Rating: 5.0/5.0

The 88 episodes of “The Shield” have been collection on 28 Dvds, beautifully housed in a 34-page bound anthology book filled with photos, quotes, and a special letter from Shawn Ryan. Purely from a packaging perspective, “The Shield” is one of the most beautiful sets that a TV fan could include on their shelf. Sometimes complete series sets are literally nothing more than the previous releases crammed into one box. That’s not the case here as the entire show has been lovingly bound like a book you want to read again.
