Metalocalypse and Homes Movies creator Brendon Small is launching his own Reverb shop to sell guitars and memorabilia associated with Metalocalypse‘s fictional band, Dethklok.
The plethora of sought-after guitars are definitely the highlight of the shop’s stock, which goes on sale Wednesday (July 30th) at 10 a.m. Ct. As Small explained, a studio robbery a couple years ago prompted him to downsize his collection.
“After my studio was robbed in 2022 I realized that I really didn’t need to be in charge of this many guitars,” he said via Reverb’s press release. “I’m paying for storage every month and though I play music every single day I cannot physically play this many guitars at once! Therefore I’m taking a healthy chunk and making them available for people who Will play them!”

Brendan Small and Tommy Blacha's animated series "Metalocalypse" follows the adventures of the death metal band Dethklok, the most extreme band on Earth. While performing their growly, Cookie-Monster rock songs, they focus on desolation, decay, and death. Off-stage, too, they are frequent witnesses to all manner of gore and horror; in one episode, they unwittingly hire a costumer who uses human skin to make their leather costumes. Despite the blood and misery of their everyday lives, however, the members of Dethklok were still callow, dumb, spoiled rock stars, complaining about their trailers, picking over the size of their giant paychecks, and whining about having to work on time. They all believed in the bleak, murderous ethos of death metal, but they were also brats and a-holes just as much as mainstream celebrities.
The gore was, of course, played for laughs. It was so extreme, one couldn't help but giggle at how shocking it was.

A decade before Bob’s Burgers premiered, creator Loren Bouchard developed the cult series Home Movies, which ran for four seasons, first on Upn and then on Adult Swim. The show follows an awkward 8-year-old boy Brendon Small, voiced by the actor/comedian Brendon Small, who co-created the show before going on to co-create and star in Metalocalypse. Bob’s Burgers star H. Jon Benjamin plays Brendon's soccer coach, John McGuirk. Home Movies has a cruder animation style than Bob’s Burgers and doesn’t have the same tight sitcom plotting. This is because it’s largely improvised with scripts that are rough outlines. This gives it a unique feel and emphasizes the awkwardness of the characters. The dialogue is genuinely strange and uncomfortable in a way even the best writers can’t recreate. Although the style is more rough around the edges, everything that makes Bob’s Burgers special is present in its predecessor.

First impressions are everything — except when they’re not. While most sitcoms that struggle in their first season get the ax, there have been occasions when a network is so invested in the success of a star or a concept that they give it another shot after retooling things. Sometimes they ditch a few characters or switch the location; other times they go so far as to change the name of the show. Then they put it back out into the world and hope everyone forgets about the original incarnation.
Here are seven such shows that were retooled after (or during) their first season, with notably mixed results…
7 Ellen
Ellen DeGeneres’ mid-1990s ABC sitcom was a modest success. Its first season, though, was very different from those that would follow. For starters, it was called These Friends of Mine instead of Ellen. And a couple of those friends (played...

The cult-favorite Adult Swim animated series Metalocalypse began airing back in 2006, following the exploits of the infamous death metal band Dethklok. Over four seasons and one epic rock opera special, creator Brendan Small’s absurdist musical world captured legions of fans with its blistering metal songs, irreverent humor, and unflinching gore. After years away, Dethklok now makes their cinematic debut in Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar.
Picking up right where The Doomstar Requiem left off, the movie finds the members of Dethklok emerging from hiatus to announce a new album and tour. But dark forces from their past threaten to bring about the prophesied “Metalocalypse,” which could destroy the world.
With lead singer Nathan Explosion incapacitated by a nervous breakdown, the fate of the planet falls to Dethklok, who writes a legendary “Song of Salvation” to defeat the forces of evil. However, achieving musical salvation may be an even greater...

Film and television composer Bear McCreary has unleashed “Incinerator” as the latest single from his recently announced album The Singularity, arriving May 10th. The song features Serj Tankian on vocals, and has a sonic vibe that would fit comfortably in System of a Down’s catalog.
“When I got the music, when I got this song specifically, I was blown away,” stated Tankian. “It’s explosive.”
The song is explosive, indeed, starting out with a blistering guitar riff before Tankian’s soaring trademark vocals take the spotlight. About two minutes into the track, Tankian shifts into a chaotic rapid delivery reminiscent of Soad’s “Chop Suey!”
The tune serves as the album’s leadoff track, with McCreary remarking, “Once I heard Serj’s searing vocals, I knew immediately that ‘Incinerator’ would be the first song on the album, acting like a warning that a massive, aggressive, and emotional journey lay ahead.

Another year bites the dust, friends. Another year where I've watched too many horror movies, and now it’s time to face the impossible task of sorting the best into a ranked list. I’ve been doing it since my first year as a big-boy film critic almost a decade ago, but it never gets easier. I’ve seen over 130+ horror movies in 2023! Ten slots aren’t enough to capture the massive breadth of worthwhile horror titles you should consume. I won’t do it, dammit. I can’t.
…Ok maybe I can but still, it’s harder than it looks! There are so many noteworthy films not listed, but that's the beauty of opinions and personal preferences. My list is mine and mine alone. Other critics will have their own takes, and more power to the variety of responses highlighting as many releases as possible. So let’s get...

The following contains spoilers for Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar.
Beginning in 2006 on Adult Swim, Metalocalypse was the brainchild of Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. The series focused on the metal band Dethklok, the single most popular band in the world. Nominally a comedy poking fun at the lives of bandmates Nathan Explosion, Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Toki Wartooth, Pickles, and William Murderface, the series steadily developed an epic lore surrounding a mysterious Tribunal of powerful world leaders, a mysterious otherworldly being known as Salacia, and the band's destined role in an apocalyptic event known simply as the Metalocalypse.
After running for four seasons and an hour-long special in 2013, the series was canceled by Adult Swim.
But the long-awaited finale, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar, has been finally released as a concluding chapter of the sage. Metalocalypse: Army Of The Doomstar is a brilliant conclusion to the epic saga of Dethklok, the world’s most popular and influential death metal band. The animated series, created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, combines dark humor, musical satire, and apocalyptic drama in a unique and original way.
This epic conclusion film delivers on the promise of resolving the mysteries and conflicts that have been building up since the first episode. The animation is stunning, the voice acting is superb, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. The show manages to balance comedy and tragedy, as well as pay homage to the genre of metal and its culture.
What was also a bit surprising to us as we were watching the film, is that there was a certain level of sentimentality that was normally not present during the original series run. The film further showcased the heart line which runs between...

The latest promo video for Adult Swim's animated film Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar sees Nathan Explosion confront his followers.
The clip begins with Nathan as he exits a hospital (one surrounded by gigantic metal dragons) only to find a swarm of fans outside. "Unless you are vigilant, you will drown in fear." Adult Swim has debuted a trailer for an animated release titled Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar, a feature film spin-off from the animated series called "Metalocalypse". Originally premiering on Adult Swim in 2006, it ran for four seasons with another special Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem (in 2013). The series was created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha, and this new movie is written & directed by Small. Can Nathan Explosion look beyond his brutally damaged ego to save his band, stop the Metalocalypse, and finally face the ultimate evil: Salacia? The movie stars the voices of Brendon Small, Tommy Blacha, Victor Brandt, Stephen "Thundercat" Bruner (Grammy Award-winning musician), King Diamond (King Diamond; Mercyful Fate), plus Mark Hamill, Kirk Hammett, Jon Hamm, Scott Ian (Anthrax), Amy Lee (Evanescence), Malcolm McDowell, Juliet Mills, Laraine Newman (SNL), and Livia Zita (2022 winner - Society of Voice Arts and Sciences Award). A new standard headline that fans have been dealing with lately has been streaming services announcing that they are cutting more titles from their services, and Sunday saw the removal of the classic Adult Swim series, Metalocalypse, from HBO Max. However, what makes this movie extra shocking is that Metalocalypse is in the middle of a series of high profile projects, including a live concert tour, an album and, most importantly, a feature film!
Warner Discover announced earlier this month that it was pulling a number of animated titles from HBO Max (soon to be just Max on May 23), including Clarence, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Flapjack, Foster's Home, Dexter's Laboratory, Ben 10: Omniverse, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, and Ben 10: Alien Force. Likely the strangest show to be pulled, though, was Metalocalypse.
