Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman in Mister Babadook (2014)
Little Bites (2025) Movie Ending Explained: Do Mindy and Alice Defeat the Monster?
Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman in Mister Babadook (2014)
With a plot similar to that of “The Babadook,” and a monster looking like the ‘Baron’ from “What We Do in the Shadows” (the TV show), “Little Bites” entangles itself in rough-hewn metaphors and uneven messaging. But, when it concentrates on being a slow-burn gore-fest, with the right amount of dread and horror, the Spider One feature does succeed. With taut atmospheric cinematography and a fine performance from Krsy Fox, “Little Bites” is not a totally disappointing fare. In fact, for pure horror aficionados, it should be compellingly entertaining.

Written by Spider One, the film juggles with some metaphors and has a surprising ending. Let us discuss that.

Little Bites (2024) Movie Synopsis and Plot Summary:

We start with an ominous close-up of Mindy Vogel (Krsy Fox) as she looks helplessly and despondently. As a dinner bell rings from someplace afar, she begins to drag herself toward the source of the sound.

Spider One horror film Little Bites reaches Shudder in February
Image
A couple years ago, Spider One – the frontman of Powerman 5000 and the brother of fellow musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie – made his feature directorial debut with the horror anthology Allegoria. Last year, his second feature – a horror film called Bury the Bride – was released through the Tubi streaming service. His third film, which is called Little Bites, recently secured a worldwide distribution deal through Rlje Films and the Shudder streaming service – and, having received a theatrical and VOD release in October, Little Bites is now set to start streaming on Shudder as of February 21st!

Written and directed by Spider One, Little Bites centers on Mindy, a young widow and mother who tries to protect her daughter Alice from a flesh eating monster named Agyar. Mindy has been secretly sacrificing her own life by allowing the creature to feast on her body as she keeps Alice hidden away at her grandmother’s house.

‘Little Bites’ Movie Ending Explained And Summary: What Does The Monster Symbolize?
Image
Directed and written by Spider One, Little Bites is driven more by its theme than its plot. The story is of little significance here, since the focus is primarily on the metaphor used to address addiction and the challenges of being a single parent. Little Bites could have worked better as a short film than a feature; it is because of the duration that the metaphor is overexplained and it loses its spark. The plot is similar to the 2014 Austrian film The Babadook. Krsy Fox delivers a stellar performance as single mother Mindy Vogel, and Jon Sklaroff is pretty convincing as the ghastly-looking monster, Agyar.

Spoiler Alert

What was Mindy protecting Alice from?

Mindy’s ten-year-old daughter Alice had been staying at her grandmother’s house for over a week. She had no idea why her mother wanted her to stay away, and Alice looked forward to returning home to her mother.

Little Bites Review: A Mother’s Struggle in the Shadows
Image
Little Bites tells the disturbing tale of Mindy Vogel, a young widow struggling to shield her daughter from a sinister threat lurking within the walls of their home. Mindy lives with her young daughter Alice, but sends the girl away to live with her grandmother for safety reasons.

You see, there’s something sinister dwelling in the basement—a flesh-hungry monster called Agyar. Played by Jon Sklaroff with chilling effect, Agyar appears mostly as a shadowy figure. He feeds on Mindy by giving her gruesome “little bites,” leaving the woman increasingly drained.

Mindy, portrayed rawly by Krsy Fox, sacrifices greatly to protect Alice from Agyar. The creature threatens to claim Alice as his next meal if Mindy doesn’t submit to his feedings. Mindy’s turmoil grows more desperate as social pressures also mount.

Barbara Crampton takes on the role of a probing social worker, while Heather Langenkamp adds depth as another mother.

‘Little Bites’ Review – This Monster Metaphor Needs a Tighter Edit [Ff 2024]
Image
Monsters as metaphors are nothing new to the world of fiction, allowing creators to find novel ways to explore the unknown through horror tropes. The genre has seen a surplus of films using this device in the 10 years since Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook was released to critical and commercial success, and we can now add Spider One‘s Little Bites to the list. It’s a well-intentioned film, with the musician-turned-filmmaker delivering a visually striking parental horror film that boasts a strong lead performance, but it suffers from a transparent script and some severe pacing issues.

Widowed mother Mindy is in the middle of a depressive episode. She sends her daughter Alice (Elizabeth Phoenix Caro) to stay with her mother while attending to a hideous creature (Jon Sklaroff) that lives in her basement closet. “Attending,” in this case, means allowing the creature to bite Mindy all over her body...

We first learned of Little Bites back in June 2023 when it was announced that mother-and-son duo Cher and Chaz Bono would be coming together to executive produce it. Spider One was revealed to be writing the script and would also be directing, with OneFox Productions producing.

Besides being an executive producer, Bono also stars in the horror flick. ‘Showdown at the Grand’ Review: Bad Guys Threaten a Struggling Cinema in Fond Salute to Vintage B Movies
Image
The struggle to keep movie theaters alive gets very personal in “Showdown at the Grand,” an enjoyable tribute to retro exploitation pictures with Terrance Howard as a movie palace proprietor besieged by diminishing receipts and violent goons. Dolph Lundgren plays the former action star who shows up for a personal appearance, then stays to help save the joint from those agents of unscrupulous developers. More low-key homage than campy cartoon, writer-director Orson Oblowitz’s fourth feature does manage to deliver some tongue-in-cheek mayhem in an extended climax.

The setting is an actual vintage art deco temple for cinema, San Pedro’s Warner Grand, though rather than being managed by the City of Los Angeles (as it is off-screen), it’s kept alive here as a none-too-successful for-profit labor of love by George Fuller (Howard). Decked out in cowboy duds as if he were an actor himself, George is also projectionist,...

Showdown at the Grand Review | Mildly Entertaining, But Very Loving Homage to the Past
Image
In the new action comedy Showdown at the Grand, George Fuller (Terrence Howard) is the proprietor of The Warner Grand, which is an architecturally wondrous and super cool theater that seems like the Music Box in Chicago, which was originally for stage shows before it started showing movies. Times are tough at the moment because the cinematic experience is shrinking, and George has sunk all his money into getting film star and personal hero Claude Luc Hallyday (Dolph Lundgren) to make an appearance during a showing.

Enter Lynn Schrader (Amanda Righetti), CEO of Schrader Industries (perhaps a nod to Paul Schrader). Right now she's in the middle of building Nirvana, an all-inclusive complex designed to be sustainable in the event of a plague or terrorism. All that's standing in her way is the Grande, so she offers George this incredibly large sum of money to buy the theater with. As the stick to her carrot,...

"24' Recap: Day 8: 6:00 Pm - 8:00 Pm
6:00 Pm - 7:00 Pm

24 is on crack this first week, with four (count 'em, four!) action-packed hours to get Grandpa Jack's ass in gear. Hope the old geezer still has the chops to pull it off. At first I was sure this would be Kiefer Sutherland's last year, but he's saying if the ratings are good there could be yet another season. What will be left for Jack to save?
