Where Baywatch's Yasmine Bleeth Is Now
Image
Yasmine Bleeth was once a major star thanks to her role on Baywatch but has since disappeared from the public eye. The 1989 Baywatch TV show, which led to the ill-advised 2017 movie, was an 11-season primetime soap opera about a team of lifeguards who patrol the beaches of California (and Hawaii in seasons 10 and 11). The guards face the expected ocean dangers such as drownings, shark attacks, and dangerous weather, but they also experience conflicts more befitting an HBO crime drama, like serial killers and thieves, all of which they end up being responsible for.

Baywatch is well known for its large ensemble, but a few actors emerged as fan favorites and became synonymous with the series. Some fans are all about David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, while others prefer Pamela Anderson as C. J. Parker. Still, others have a soft spot for Yasmine Bleeth as Caroline Holden, and those fans, like many,...

The film has been fully remastered and will include "hundreds of new special effects," promising more kills, thrills, sharks, and tornadoes. The franchise has been successful due to its escapism and fantasy elements, bringing a healthy fear of sharks to life in a different environment.

Per THR, it's been revealed that The Asylum will screen the original Sharknado in theaters on Aug. 15 and 16 in honor of the film's 10th anniversary. ’3-Headed Shark Attack’ Review
Stars: Karrueche Tran, Jason Simmons, Rob Van Dam, Danny Trejo, Jena Sims, Brad Mills, Scott Thomas Reynolds | Written by Jacob Cooney, Bill Hanstock | Directed by Christopher Olen Ray

It seems oh-so-obvious, but would you believe me if I told you that 3-Headed Shark Attack is a sequel to the 2012 film 2-Headed Shark Attack? Well it is. And both films come from Christopher Olen Ray, son of legendary (well at least in my house) B-movie director Fred Olen Ray, and director of the fantastic, and criminally over-looked, action flick Mercenaries. Ray is also one of the best director that purveyors of Syfy channel shlock, The Asylum, currently have on their roster.

Of course your enjoyment of this film depends entirely on whether or not you’re a fan of the un-ironically bad films that The Asylum – and the Syfy channel – have made their stock and trade. For me their films are...

Exclusive: Director Anthony C. Ferrante Talks Sharknado 2 and More!
Get ready, kids! The "Sumnado of Sharknado" (as Syfy likes to call it) is officially upon us, and right now we have a quick Q&A with Sharknado 2: The Second One director Anthony C. Ferrante to help chum the waters of your anticipation.

Dread Central: Now, over half a year removed from the surprise pop culture quake Sharknado set off, what do you look back upon as being the best/worst aspects of it and the most surprising things to come out of it?

Anthony C. Ferrante: I’m still surprised that mainstream American embraced it. I remember watching the finished movie about three weeks before it aired. The movie is practically wall-to-wall VFX so this was the first time we saw everything completely together without missing slugs. <?i>

There were about three of us in the editing bay, and we were laughing with it and making fun of it.

Unofficial Baywatch movie incoming, can't mention Baywatch
This might just be the most wonderfully sounding bonkers on the horizon: an unofficial Baywatch film, with quite a plot...

News

It's little secret that plans have been in place for some time to bring Baywatch to the big screen. And yet, try as they might, those attempting to get the film made haven't yet got that elusive green light.

Perhaps then they should take a leaf out of the book of Chris Cottom. He's the director of an unofficial Baywatch spin-off film that's heading to our screens. It's called The B-Team, because its makers haven't got the rights to use the Baywatch name, but it does feature some of the original actors from the TV show. Specifically, Jaason Simmons, Alexandra Paul and Jeremy Jackson. There's no confirmation either way on the involvement of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. Let's call them both long shots for now.

In The B-Team,...

John Cleese joins Mmg's B Team
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Alerte à Malibu (1989)
Exclusive: Producer and former Baywatch star Alexandra Paul and Meyers Media Group (Mmg) have announced the casting on the spoof spy in the run-up to Cannes.

Mmg represents world rights to The B Team and makes its production debut. The company is working with Joseph Cohen of American Entertainment to arrange financing.

UK filmmaker Chris Cottam will direct the fictitious romp about TV actors from a cancelled show who reunite to take down an arch-criminal.

Years after the show was used by the CIA to gather intelligence during promotional tours at the end of the Cold War, the Agency is blackmailed by a villain and discovers he loved the old show.

The Agency summons the actors to get close to the evil-doer and take him down. The conceit of the film, styled in the vein of Austin Powers and Johnny English, is that the show was Baywatch. The B Team will feature original cast members playing their real-life...

John Cleese Joins The B Team
Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
If the idea of actors from a cheesy but beloved TV series pressed into service against a new, real-world threat has you thinking Galaxy Quest, you'e not alone. When a new villain (Vachon, to be played by Cleese) blackmails the agency and they learn he’s a diehard Baywatcher, the actors are summoned back into action to take him down. DVD Review: 'Sharknado'
★★☆☆☆ Every wondered what would happen should a tornado whip up a frenzy of sharks from the ocean and deposit them onto an unsuspecting American public? Well have no fear, as purveyors of Dtv schlock The Asylum have stepped up to answer that question in their imaginatively titled Syfy Channel feature, Sharknado (2013). Swimming with ropey special effects, groan-inducing dialogue and a narrative so ridiculous it makes the title seem run-of-the-mill, it's fun. "We shouldn't be afraid of the sharks. They're the ones that should be afraid of us," claims a snarling sea captain in the film's nefarious shark fishing opening.

The captain, of course, soon meets a grisly end courtesy of hundreds of razor sharp teeth and the action jumps to Los Angeles and an aptly-monickered protagonist, Fin (Ian Ziering); pro surfer and waterfront barman. When the storm, and a wave of black-eyed predators, hits the coast, Fin and a band...

When a freak tornado swamps Los Angeles, thousands of man-eating sharks are sucked into the swirling vortex, terrorizing the waterlogged populace and flooding the city with shark-infested seawater. Surfer and bar-owner Fin (Ziering) sets out with his friends Baz (Simmons) and Nova (Scerbo) to rescue his estranged wife April (Reid) and teenage daughter Claudia from the sharks raining down from the skies. With nature’s deadliest killer ruling sea, land, and air, they soon realise that the best chance they have to survive the deadly shark-infested maelstrom is to find a way to destroy it themselves.

DVD Review: 'Nowhere' (rerelease)
★★★★★ Nowhere (1997) follows Totally F***ed Up (1993) and The Doom Generation (1995) as the third and final instalment in renegade filmmaker Gregg Araki's Teenage Apocalypse trilogy. Jam-packed full of rampant, libidinous teens that exist in a multicultural, pop art, dystopian fantasy, watching Nowhere is what might happen were you to read Naked Lunch before bed. Araki's muse James Duval is at the centre of the action, his character Dark Smith the embodiment of the apocalypse. He edits tapes in an attempt to control his life, whilst his bisexual girlfriend, Mel (Rachel True), simply can't commit to him.

This lack of commitment sees Dark's mind become a mass of bubbling confusion, especially after meeting Montgomery (Nathan Bexton). The theme of alienation follows Dark like a heavy cloud, eventually taking on literal form in a scene involving a ghastly explosion that would make undoubtedly have made Franz Kafka proud. Various interconnected sup-plots...

Sharknado Sequel Officially Titled Sharknado 2: The Second One!
Sharknado (2013)
Last month, Syfy announced that it is letting the fans decide what to call their sequel to Sharknado through a Twitter contest. After delving through more than 5,000 submissions, the network revealed that the sequel will be called Sharknado 2: The Second One.

Here's what Thomas Vitale, Syfy's executive vice president of programming, had to say about the title.

"Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2. This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum."

Our report from last month also revealed that the sequel will be moving to New York City, although it isn't known if Sharknado stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo are coming back.

SyFy Plans Sharknado 2, Check Out 6 Sequel Posters!
Sharknado (2013)
Sharknado is a bonafide social and cultural hit, averaging 5000 tweets a minute for a total of 1,987,000 social media mentions since it premiered this past Thursday night. Though it drew over just 1 million viewers during its initial airing on Syfy, below average for this type of Syfy original movie, there is no denying its impact on all social media as people continue to talk about the film throughout the weekend, building more buzz for its next airing, Thursday July 18, than anything playing at the local Cineplex, including Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

It makes sense that Syfy would already be planning a sequel. Syfy executive Thomas Vitale revealed that Sharknado 2 is in the works, though nothing is set in stone just yet.

"We've had a lot of meetings, emails. I'm not being coy, [but] that's obviously being talked about. [T]here's nothing going to be announced now just because we haven't had...

Q&A with Sharknado Star Tara Reid and Director Anthony Ferrante
So, did you catch Sharknado last night, or did you DVR it to watch with other Syfy aficionados on Saturday and comment via social media? In either case, we have a Q&A with director Anthony Ferrante and star Tara Reid to share. Beware of minor spoilers if you fall in the latter category.

Syfy recently hosted a conference call with the pair, and they're both pretty damn entertaining. Just like the film itself! They discuss how much fun they had working on it, the challenges of pulling off something so batshit nuts with their limited budget and time frame, CGI vs. practical effects, the level of gore, and whole lot more. Check it out, and if you missed it, read our Sharknado review here.

Q: This looks like a lot of fun; combining a tornado with sharks is a pretty cool thing. Did you try to use practical sharks...

'Sharknado': Another Syfy disaster film gone horribly right
Cassandra Scerbo
We’ve I’ve seen it all—Dinoshark, Sharktopus, Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus. But to all Syfy television leeches’ delights, The Asylum managed to plug new variables into its inexplicably successful science-fiction-monster-attack formula. Thursday’s premiere was simply disaster times three: a natural disaster, an oceanic creature capable of disaster, and a Hollywood disaster (but you’ll always hold a special place in our hearts, Tara Reid).

Spoilers Ahoy!

So you don’t confuse it with Citizen Kane, this shark attack thriller follows Fin Shepard and friends as they fight to save the Santa Monica...

Gregg Araki at an event for Mysterious Skin (2004)
Film review: Nowhere 'Nowhere'
Gregg Araki at an event for Mysterious Skin (2004)
The extreme highs and lows of contemporary teens witnessing the "end of everything" provide some of the funniest and most insightful scenes in the subversive cinema of Gregg Araki, whose new low-budget film "Nowhere" completes his "Teen Apocalypse" trilogy that includes "Totally F***cked Up" and "The Doom Generation".

With a downright surrealistic supporting cast -- from Jaason Simmons and Thyme Lewis to Beverly D'Angelo and Jeremy Jordan -- "Nowhere" is a sexy, savory cinematic cocktail for savvy moviegoers, but distributor Fine Line has its work cut out. Best theatrical results will come in major markets, but over the long haul "Nowhere" should find many appreciative fans as a video rental.

Loosely structured, even for Araki, and less biting than his previous five films, "Nowhere" again features the talented James Duval ("Independence Day") as a sensitive soul afoot in a swirling atmosphere of partying and pop culture that reflects and magnifies every emotion and physical urge.

A wild day in the life of Dark (Duval), "Nowhere" has bimbo-vaporizing aliens, drag queens, a scary televangelist, and characters called Zero, Dingbat, Handjob and Ducky, but at its romantic core the film explores the perils and pleasures of relationships, both serious and casual.

Dark's love interest Mel (Rachel True) is too wild to commit. She has a bitchy butch lover (Kathleen Robertson), and late in the game she gets down with gorgeous twins Surf and Ski (Keith and Derek Brewer).

Dark fantasizes about nice-guy Montgomery (Nathan Bexton), but the former is so confused he can't make any progress. It doesn't help when he starts to see a lizard-like alien zapping friends and strangers.

Other subplots include the downward spiral of a drugged-out musician (Jordan) who has a painful encounter with a dominatrix duo (Chiara Mastroianni, Debi Mazar); the dream-shattering encounter of sweet-girl Egg (Sarah Lassez) with the dreamy Teen Idol (Simmons); and the sexual adventures of brother-sister twins (Ryan Phillippe, Jordan Ladd) with their respective potent lovers (Heather Graham, Lewis).

The film goes nowhere Araki hasn't gone before, but the wickedly shocking finale underscores the filmmaker's go-for-broke sensibilities and piercing wit. There's even a bit of violence to balance out the film's inverted sitcom charm. Whether or not it's true for every viewer, Araki seems to maintain control of a film that's genuinely unpredictable.
