While Andy Samberg’s comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been one of the most appreciated sitcoms of the modern day, it’s particularly the I Want It That Way lineup scene from S5E17, Dfw that catapulted the show to great heights. Turning into an iconic, fan-favorite moment, the episode was celebrated for its creativity.

But sadly while the scene earned jaw-dropping amounts of views on social media, and got reused multiple times, the real stars behind the scene never got the opportunity to bathe in its success. Due to a lack of residuals, the creators and the actors of Brooklyn Nine-Nine failed to cash on the viral moment, much like Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul had highlighted.

The iconic Backstreet Boys cold open in Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a last-minute addition, but it turned out to be the comedy's best. The episode's original idea was for Jake to make a police lineup sing a Disney song, but someone suggested the Backstreet Boys song instead. The production team was worried about affording the song, but they were able to make it work, and the cold open became a huge hit.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's iconic open centered around Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" was a last-minute addition. For a show that was famous for its hilariously random cold opens, occasionally delivering the episode's biggest laugh before the credits even roll, the Backstreet Boys tribute in season 5, episode 17 is seen by many to be the comedy's best. In it, a police lineup of suspects sing "I Want It That Way" to help the sister of a murder victim determine the culprit.
