During their illustrious careers, the Shaw Brothers brought so much entertainment to the world. And they were not afraid to think outside the box and have a female character be the lead. This happened many times in their films. Films like Lady with a Sword and Lady Assassin.

88 Films have been releasing a lot of the Shaw Brothers films on Blu-ray for a while now, and it is time for yet another strong female-led movie to get a deluxe Blu-ray release, and that film is 1975’s Lady of the Law.

A dangerous criminal escapes captivity – but luckily crime-busting super swords-woman Leng Rushuang is on his trail. However, she has doubts about his guilt, and she’s not going to stop fighting until she’s sure the right man is being punished.

Mainland-born Yip Wing Cho began his career at Shaw Brothers Studio as a photography assistant under director Lo Wei, working on titles like “Raw Courage”, “The Golden Sword” (1969), and “Brothers Five” (1970). He later transitioned to directing with “Girl of Ghost Valley”, starring Hsing Hui, and “The Black Tavern”, both from scripts written by his father, Yip Yat Fong. During the revival of Cantonese cinema, Yip spent his later career acting in numerous romantic comedies and crime thrillers.

Sammo Hung has been involved in Martial Arts since childhood and even at the ripe old age of 64, he doesn’t seem to be slowing down (Thank god). It was great to see Sammo back in big movies over the past few years, which includes Rise Of The Legend and Once Upon A Time In Shanghai, both made in 2014.

When I think of Wu Xia movies, I immediately think of Shaw Brothers and the many classic they have made over the years. What I love about this genre is many things, the Swordplay, The Characters, Story lines, Setting, Costumes and much more.

Wu Xia, traditionally is a form of literature. But after high demand over the years it’s become involoved in many art forms such as Movies, Opera, Video Games and beyond. When it comes to making features like this one, i love the idea of coming up with my own personal “100 Great Kung Fu Movies” of all time. It is tough choosing just 100 because you know there are many more great Kung Fu movies that are not on the list.

I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.

What we lack more and more these days are epic fight scenes in the final part of kung Fu/Martial Art movies. We have seen less and less one on one fight scenes in the final battle over the past 15-20 years, which is a shame but we have seen recently a few flicks bringing that winning formula back.

I was hyped for this movie when it was announced, but after seeing the latest still i know its going to showcase some great action choreography. The Bodyguard is the latest movie from legendary Kung Fu icon Sammo Hung, as he stars and also Directs again for the first time since Mr.Nice Guy in 1997, starring Jackie Chan.

The movie also stars the brilliant Andy lau, Tian Liang and Deng Chao, but will also feature cameos from the likes off Tsui Hark, Karl Maka, Dean Shek and Yuen Wah.

Shout! Factory has announced that they will release a special DVD collection dedicated to Angela Mao Ying, one of the most well known martial art actress.

Angela Mao Ying was born in 1950 in Taiwan and during her career she had trained in hapkido, wushu, taekwondo and other forms of martial arts. She debuted in 1969 but it wasn’t until the mid seventies that she started to get international recognition. She started in more than 35 films and became one of the most celebrated martial art heroines of Hong Kong cinema.

The 3 disc collection with widescreen format, contain six of the most well know films started by Ying. The films included are: When Taekwondo Strikes (1973), Stoner (1974), The Tournament (1974), Queen´s Ransom (1976), The Himalayan (1976) and Broken Oath (1977).

This is a run down of my Top 40 kung fu movies of the 1970′s. There were so many great films in this era, i just hope i do this list some justice. The movies chosen are just my personal choice, i understand others might have different views.

Any of the movies that make the Top 40 list must have something special to make it in the first place. So i hope you enjoy my Top 40 Kung Fu movies and some of your favorite movies are in there also.

Here it is, my top 10 kung fu movies of the 70′s. I have really enjoyed putting this list together and whatever ends up as number 1 will also count to the impact that movie as had all over the world since it was released.

The Odd Couple as been regarded as one of the best traditional weapon movies of all time. Here we get to see two legends going sword to pole as both Sammo hung and Lau Kar Wing show why they are up there with the very best, weather it be using weapons on screen or just straight kung fu. We also get to see leung Kar yan in the role of the leading villain which he always plays very well.

Dirty Tiger, Crazy Frog is a traditional kung fu movie starring Sammo Hung and Lau Kar Wing. Although it wasn’t a popular as his other movies at the time, this still deserves to be watched, with good fight scenes throughout and the final 20 minutes or so, see Sammo and Lau kar Wing going toe to toe with villain Lee Hoi San.

The film also features cameos from Yuen Biao, Lam Ching-ying and Hsiao Ho.

Leung Kar Yan was born 20 January 1949, also known as “Beardy”, is a Hong Kong actor and director and despite being one of the most well-known faces in Hong Kong action cinema, he had no kind of martial arts training, relying on his talents to imitate the moves shown to him by the action directors on the set.

Leung Kar Yan has made so many classic kung fu movies, that this was a hard choice to put in order a Top 10, but here goes, i hope you all like it and please feel free to comment at the bottom of the page and also add your own if i miss your favorite out.

10.His Name Os Nobody

I really enjoyed this movie, there are some funny moments throughout the movie and although the kung fu isn’t really the main part of the movie till towards the end, it is still very enjoyable.

It's not hard to see why people like impersonating Charlie Chaplin. Who wouldn't want to borrow that split-second comic timing, the subtle wit, the mastery of the tiny gesture – a raised eyebrow, a slumped shoulder – that said everything while he said nothing at all?

Chaplin was a global celebrity before the age of mass media (though it has been reported he once came third in a Charlie Chaplin lookalike competition, so unassuming was he). His screen persona, a well-meaning but clumsy vagrant with social aspirations – wasn't showy, or imitable in an obvious way. This makes impersonating Chaplin tricky, because charisma, wit and vulnerability can't be thrown on like a tatty bowler hat.

The three main cast members (Ti Lung, Leslie Cheung, Chow Yun-Fat) from A Better Tomorrow are back. Kit(Leslie Cheung) is now working on a dangerous undercover mission. The authorities feel his currently incarcerated brother may be of use. Ho (Ti Lung) is offered the chance to get out of jail early if he agrees to help. At first he turns the offer down, but soon he realizes the best way to protect his brother is to take the offer. Useing his former status to infiltrate the syndicate himself. Meanwhile the twin brother of the now deceased Mark(Chow Yun-Fat) is living in New York running a Chinese restaurant and trying to avoid paying protection money to the local wise guys.

Once inside the gang Kit and Ho both make contact with former mob boss Si Lung(Dean Shek) who appears to be going straight but is finding it difficult.
