Athole Shearer was born on 20 November 1900 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. She was an actress. She was married to Howard Hawks and John Ward. She died on 17 March 1985 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
As recounted by Gavin Lambert in his biography of Norma Shearer, by the late 1950s and into the 1960s, Miss Shearer had a dread of mental illness overtaking her. Or, as she put it to intimates, a fear "of going Athole's way.".
