In 1963, he and Bill Hickman were awarded a commendation for outstanding service to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for their involvement in the apprehension of a bank robber who had shot a police officer. On June 19, 1963, they pursued and rammed the car of the bandit, Carl Follette, and delayed him until the LAPD arrived.

In addition to being a stuntman, he was a TV writer and actor.

Alex Sharp was the stunt double for James Arness in "The Mission" which was one the earlier color episodes of "Gunsmoke." If you look closely, you can catch a glimpse of his face in the Mexican bar fight scene at about 00:12:00.
