Vendredi 13, chapitre V : Une nouvelle terreur (1985)
Interview: Melanie Kinnaman looks back on Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
Vendredi 13, chapitre V : Une nouvelle terreur (1985)
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, the fifth film in the Friday the 13th franchise, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year – and JoBlo’s own Ryan Cultrera was recently able to catch up with Melanie Kinnaman, who played the film’s heroine, at the Ve Neill’s Vampire Weekend convention in California! Ryan talked with Kinnaman about her experience working on the classic slasher, and you can watch the interview in the video embedded above.

Directed by Danny Steinmann, who also crafted the screenplay with Martin Kitrosser and David Cohen, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning has the following synopsis: Years after Tommy Jarvis murdered hockey-masked serial killer Jason Voorhees, he resides in a mental hospital and struggles with the trauma of the experience. When Tommy moves to an isolated halfway house, he has nightmares about Jason’s return, and soon one of the patients is killed. As the body count grows,...

Derek Mears in Vendredi 13 (2009)
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Derek Mears in Vendredi 13 (2009)
It’s Friday the 13th, and we have decided to celebrate by releasing a new episode of the What Happened to This Horror Movie? video series that digs into one of the more divisive entries in the Friday the 13th film franchise: the fifth entry, 1985’s Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (watch it Here), a movie that doesn’t have Jason Voorhees or his mother doing the killing. This time around, the slashing was done by a copycat – and you can hear all about it in the video embedded above.

Black Pumas Bring Live Music Roaring Back to Austin After a Hard Year
Image
From the green room at Stubb’s BBQ, a narrow hallway lined by rope lighting leads to the stage. On any other night, the glowing amber string would be merely an accent to guide performers down a dimly lit passage. But last Wednesday, when Black Pumas played the first full-capacity show in Austin since March 2020, it felt like a runway for the relaunch of live music in a city where it means everything — where statues of Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan stand downtown, a stage with a live band welcomes travelers at the airport,...

‘Postponed’ – Friday The 13th Part V Now Midnights Next Weekend at The Moolah
“Jason Voorhees is dead! His body was cremated. He’s nothing but a handful of ash!”

Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning was supposed to screen Midnights this weekend at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Mo 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhouse film series but it has been postponed becasue of the weather until next weekend (January 20th and 21st).

Okay, so Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning is hardly a subtle, and tasteful work of sophisticated cinematic art, but it is so incredibly crass, coarse, and unapologetically trashy that it’s always entertaining and occasionally even downright sidesplitting in its gleeful go-for-it nastiness. Director/co-writer Danny Steinmann (also responsible for the terrific Linda Blair rape-and-revenger Savage Streets) deserves credit for effectively creating and sustaining an engrossingly sleazy atmosphere throughout and eschewing the by now exceedingly tiresome...

Crystal Lake Memories, The Complete History Of Friday The 13th – The Blu Review
For more than thirty years, Friday The 13th has proven to be as unstoppable at the box office as its hockey-masked villain Jason Voorhees, having spawned twelve feature films!

I’m not a huge fan of the Friday The 13th series. I was in college when the first one came out and was just a bit too old to get too excited about the many sequels. But I saw them all! Mostly at drive-ins. I saw part 3 in 3-D at the now-defunct Westport Cinema in ’84 (I also saw Parasite in 3D there the same year) and always considered that my favorite of the series, probably just because of the gimmick. I really liked Jason X (the one in space) and think more highly of Freddy Vs Jason now than I did when I first saw it 10 years ago. The reboot was forgettable and I’m not surprised that it seems...
