Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
If Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has taught us anything (besides how to punch a hole through dimensions), it’s that childhood and creepy stuff go hand-in-hand.

That winning combo created the man behind “Stranger Thing’s” monster, Hollywood’s go-to creature guy Mark Steger, who has both performed and choreographed movements for all things eerie in projects such as “World War Z,” “American Horror Story” and “I Am Legend.” In an interview with IndieWire, Steger detailed some of the influences and surprisingly complex biological inspirations that went into creating the Demogorgon.

“I got a call to go meet with the Duffer Brothers, who I didn’t really know anything about at the time,” Steger said. “They showed me the lines for the creature and we discussed different film influences that they were playing with. John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing...

'Robot Combat League': Chris Jericho hosts real-life 'Real Steel'
At least since 1927's "Metropolis," and continuing into the modern era with "Transformers" and this summer's anticipated blockbuster "Pacific Rim," robots have been a fixture in movies and television. Some of the mechanized creations have become popular characters in their own right, from Robby the Robot of "Forbidden Planet" and the nameless robot in TV's "Lost in Space" to those lovable droids R2-D2 and C-3Po in "Star Wars," to name just a few.

A burgeoning TV and movie genre over the years has pitted robots in battle against one another, and for a while, the "battling robots" TV trend was popular, most notably in the Comedy Central series "BattleBots." But that series featured robots created by home inventors doing battle. "Robot Combat League," premiering Tuesday, Feb. 26, on Syfy, ups the ante, combining elements of "BattleBots" with cinematic robotics.

Hosted by former WWE star Chris Jericho, "Robot Combat League...

'Robot Combat League': Bot designer talks Syfy’s new 'Real Steel'-eqsue reality competition show
Hugh Jackman in Real Steel (2011)
Robot boxing isn’t just for your little Rock’em Sock’em game anymore. In the new Syfy series Robot Combat League, metal giants dole out powerful punches on other robots. Much like in the Hugh Jackman-starring Real Steel, competitors shadowbox in an exo-suit that translates every uppercut and right hook to their mechanical avatars.

The show began with an idea from producers Jeremy Whitham and Craig Plestis. They gave the duties of creating the show’s robots to Mark Setrakian, whose credits include the animatronic effects in Hellboy, Men in Black, and Batman Forever. He was also a...

A gripping new reality series which reinvents gladiatorial combat for the 21st century, Robot Combat League will feature tournament-style battles each week between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots controlled by human “robo-jockeys”. Hosting the series is Chris Jericho, the wildly popular WWE wrestler and multifaceted performer.

Grab Your Calendars: Syfy Announces Winter Schedule
It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.

Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.

Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:

Syfy’S 2013 Winter Programming Highlighted By Series Premieres Of Ghost Mine, Robot Combat League, Stranded And Continuum Season Returns Of Hits Being Human, Face Off, Total Blackout, Ghost Hunters, Lost Girl, Haunted Collector And Final Season Of Merlin

Syfy Mashes Genre and Wrestling by Announcing Robot Combat League
Until the sci-fi viewers actually outnumber the WWE viewers, Syfy will likely keep its dual allegiance to genre fans and wrestling fans. But that’s okay, there are plenty of sci-fi fans who also enjoy wrestling, and plenty of wrestling fans who enjoy sci-fi. Up until now, though, Syfy hasn’t been able to blend the two, other than casting the very excellent Adam Copeland (WWE Superstar Edge) in Sanctuary and now as a regular in its very excellent Haven.

That is all about to change, however. Lookie what they can do:

Syfy’S Robot Combat League Offers Ringside Seats To Groundbreaking, High-octane Clashes Of Steel WWE Champion Chris Jericho To Host Series Debuts Tuesday, February 26 at 10Pm Et/Pt

New York – November 26, 2012 – Syfy announces a gripping new reality series premiering Tuesday, February 26 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt which reinvents gladiatorial combat for the 21st century. Each week, Robot Combat...

Giant boxing robots reality show unveiled by Syfy -- Exclusive
Ready for the next generation of robot combat? Syfy has greenlit and shot the first season of a new show where eight-foot-tall state-of-the-art humanoid robots will rock ‘em and sock ‘em in a boxing cage until one is defeated.

The future-shock new series is called Robot Combat League and the project has been kept under wraps until today. The action resembles a real-life version of last year’s hit movie Real Steel, with large menacing robots pounding away at each other in a satisfying shower of sparks and gushing hydraulic fluid. And just like in the film, the ‘bots will...
