Just in time for Halloween, the fantastic 1988 remake of The Blob is coming home in a special collector's edition blu-ray. On October 29th you'll be able to get your hands on director Chuck Russell's cult classic starring Kevin Dillon, Shawnee Smith, Jeffrey DeMunn and so many more.

As we previously detailed, The Blob collector's edition blu-ray and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release with newly commissioned artwork from Joel Robinson who did the art for Scream Factory's Candyman, 10 to Midnight and In the Mouth of Madness. The art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork.

If Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has taught us anything (besides how to punch a hole through dimensions), it’s that childhood and creepy stuff go hand-in-hand.

That winning combo created the man behind “Stranger Thing’s” monster, Hollywood’s go-to creature guy Mark Steger, who has both performed and choreographed movements for all things eerie in projects such as “World War Z,” “American Horror Story” and “I Am Legend.” In an interview with IndieWire, Steger detailed some of the influences and surprisingly complex biological inspirations that went into creating the Demogorgon.

At least since 1927's "Metropolis," and continuing into the modern era with "Transformers" and this summer's anticipated blockbuster "Pacific Rim," robots have been a fixture in movies and television. Some of the mechanized creations have become popular characters in their own right, from Robby the Robot of "Forbidden Planet" and the nameless robot in TV's "Lost in Space" to those lovable droids R2-D2 and C-3Po in "Star Wars," to name just a few.

A burgeoning TV and movie genre over the years has pitted robots in battle against one another, and for a while, the "battling robots" TV trend was popular, most notably in the Comedy Central series "BattleBots." But that series featured robots created by home inventors doing battle. It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.

Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.

Until the sci-fi viewers actually outnumber the WWE viewers, Syfy will likely keep its dual allegiance to genre fans and wrestling fans. But that’s okay, there are plenty of sci-fi fans who also enjoy wrestling, and plenty of wrestling fans who enjoy sci-fi.
