The most uneven of David Cronenberg’s early commercial horror features, the 1977 “Rabid,” was nonetheless probably the biggest success among them, in large part due to the novelty value of seeing “Behind the Green Door” porn superstar and erstwhile Ivory Snow detergent-box model Marilyn Chambers in a lurid mainstream vehicle. It’s also the one ripest for remake, if only because his just-prior “Shivers” aka “They Came from Within” and ensuing “The Brood” should be left alone — largely reviled upon release, they’re now rightly considered genre classics. Lacking their outrageous ideas and cumulative narrative momentum despite some striking elements, “Rabid” nonetheless has a strong-enough basic concept to warrant revisiting.

It's capable of transforming loved ones into bloodthirsty killers, and after initially being featured in David Cronenberg's Rabid, the hunger-inducing infection will find new life in Jen and Sylvia Soska's remake of the 1977 film. Before Shout! The Soska Sisters have unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming take on David Cronenberg's body horror classic Rabid. The movie had its U.S. premiere on October 15th at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival. So far, the remake has been getting praise from critics, which is a bit rare when it comes to horror remakes these days. Cronenberg's original came out in 1977 and starred Marilyn Chambers.

The Soska Sisters are hardcore fans of David Cronenberg and made Rabid as a tribute. While the sisters admit they're not fans of the recent wave of horror remakes, they felt that they should be the ones to make Rabid before someone else did it and messed it up. One of the upcoming horror movies that I'm most interested in checking out as soon as possible is The Soska Sisters' remake of A History of Violence and Eastern Promises director David Cronenberg's Rabid starring Laura Vandervoort. Rabid, the classic film from horror auteur director David Cronenberg, has been remade by filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska.

Rabid may be a campy, schlocky classic from the dawning era of the horror Renaissance of the 1970s and 1980s, but the film, a breakthrough offering from director David Cronenberg – who would move on to genre masterpieces like 1981’s Scanners, 1983 cult classic Videodrome, 1983 Stephen King adaptation The Dead Zone and 1986’s The Fly – maintains a fanbase, notably siblings Jen and Sylvia Soska, who have remade the movie.

Laura Vandervoort stars in the horror remake as Rose, a young woman whose mutilated looks become miraculously restored… albeit with carnivorous consequences.

Film Mode Entertainment racked up sales at the European Film Market in Berlin for Rabid, the Soska Sisters’ reimagining of David Cronenberg’s 1977 namesake cult classic, and for Project Ithaca, a sci-fi thriller with compelling visual effects.

Rabid stars Laura Vandervoort and Ben Hollingsworth and is the latest feature directed by the “Twisted Twins” — aka the Soska Sisters. The cast includes former pro wrestler Cm Punk, the sixth longest reigning WWE champion of all time, as well as a cameo by his wife Aj Lee, a WWE superstar in her own right as well as a New York Times bestselling author.

Rabid is written by Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska and John Serge, and led by the sibling horror directors who established a following with their 2012 slasher epic American Mary.

This isn't an exaggeration: It's been close to 2 years since we first got wind of a remake of David Cronenberg's Rabid, to be helmed by Canadian filmmakers Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska (aka the Twisted Twins). But as Jen explained to me personally not long ago, such is the slogging nature of moviemaking-especially in the Great White North. Still, fans of the dynamic duo can celebrate yesterday's news that Rabid has officially gone before cameras in Toronto, where the movie is being shot. After years of chatter and rumor, the Soska sisters — filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska, known as the “Twisted Twins” in horror cirlces — are finally on deck to make their long-gestasting remake of David Cronenberg’s 1977 body horror classic “Rabid.” The remake was first announced back in 2016, but the film is now finally a go, bolstered by Shout! Studios, which has picked up all U.S. rights to the film.

Just announced at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, “this multi-year agreement provides Shout!
