Studied for a Ph.D. at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, but did not complete the doctorate.

Became an Associate Member of RADA.

His first fame, gained at the Edinburgh Festival in the early 1980s, was as an impersonator of Dirk Bogarde. Impersonations of Bogarde also featured extensively in his later TV series, "Stella Street". However, he was by no means a wholehearted admirer of Sir Dirk's, and sometimes allowed that he thought the actor was a little crazy.

Attended RADA in London.

He has appeared in two productions with Roger Allam about Margaret Thatcher: Margaret (2009) and La Dame de fer (2011).

Graduated with an MA from the University of Wales.

Was considered for the role of Flying Officer Carstairs in Allô allô (1982) before Nicholas Frankau was cast in the role.
